March 18, 201412 yr Using the default FSX DG-800. The Aerosoft DiscusX! is also very good! CumulusX! combines perfectly with ASN - we just have to disable the up/down drafts and thermals in ASN. CumulusX!-generated clouds are 3d objects and cast shadows on the ground, as you can see. There are also options for birds thermalling with us near the most powerful thermal sources :-) Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
March 18, 201412 yr Do you have any problem with CumulusXDLL.dll causing FSX to crash upon exit? I had to comment it out of my dll.xml file. Hook Larry Hookins Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of EarthAnd danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
March 18, 201412 yr Author Yes Hook, I confirm it is happening to me too, irrespective of using or not ASN with it. Anyway, since it only happens when exiting, I can still use CumulusX! for as long as my soaring sessions last, and one of those took me 2hrs today :-) Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
March 18, 201412 yr CumulusXDLL.dll worked fine until I installed ASN, so I suspect as_btstrp.dll may be the culprit here. Let me know if you check the CumulusX website for some answers. I haven't done much soaring lately. I have to say that the combination of AS2012 and CumulusX was incredible. I was even getting CumulusX clouds at different altitudes depending on the AS2012 clouds, something that they didn't think would happen. It's good to know that it can still be used with ASN, as I hate to give either up if I'm going to be soaring. Hook Larry Hookins Oh! March 18, 201412 yr Commercial Member Wait, cloud shadows in FSX, with CumulusX? Can CumulusX be used for some GA flying? Current system: ASUS PRIME Z690-P D4, Intel 12900k, 32GB RAM @ 3600mhz, Zotac RTX 3090 Trinity, M2 SSD, Oculus Quest 2.
March 18, 201412 yr Wait, cloud shadows in FSX, with CumulusX? Can CumulusX be used for some GA flying? Yes, and I used it that way for a while. It's only the special clouds created by CumulusX that create shadows though, but the effect is very good. The clouds look good too. Edit: forgot to mention, you don't need the registered version to use it that way. The registered version is more useful if you're going to do any soaring. Hook Larry Hookins Oh! March 19, 201412 yr Author Anybody tried this P3DV2? http://forum.aerosoft.com/index.php?/topic/66531-im-on-p3d-at-last/#entry481479 Didn't test with P3Dv2, but since it is SIMCONNECT-based, I guess it should work ( ? ) Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
March 19, 201412 yr How does CumulusX 3D clouds/shadowing do for FPS? Seems like it would cause a significant FPS hit especially if used with something like the NGX.
March 19, 201412 yr Author Hmmm, I never use it with the airliners. I have a setup for flying gliders only, and that includes CumulusX! and WinchX!. They both place entries in DLL.xml and EXE.xml, that I never have there when I'm up to a 777 flight. Anyway, I didn't notice any significative hit in performance using it with either default weather or ASN. March 19, 201412 yr The shadows are only cast by special clouds that CumulusX inserts to mark where thermals are. Normal clouds do not cast shadows. Still, it's better than nothing, and you could use it with any weather engine as long as that engine works with CumulusX. Active Sky does, and I see no reason why the others won't. It's a free download, so give it a try and report back. Unless you're using it for soaring, there's no real compelling need to register. If you ARE using it for soaring, definitely register for some added benefits. Oh, and if you've never done any soaring, give it a try. It's the purest form of flying. Hook Larry Hookins Oh! March 19, 201412 yr Is it just me, or are we missing something important in the pictures? :unsure: Brendan Chen Learning to use and getting use to FSX!
March 19, 201412 yr I don't know, but I can see both CumulusX clouds and ground shadows. Hook Larry Hookins Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of EarthAnd danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
