Agreed. Although us in the USA can't get the swiftech model anymore.

Why can't you get it anymore?

This was quite timely, Phil, as I was going to go down that liquid cooler route----my first attempt--- with the H100 version, as I'm looking to build a new system based on the newly-acquired Haswell 4670K. Now your post gives food for thought sticking to Air Coolers.

I  have this cooler for my I7...it's great. Although you need a big case for it

As Ryan implied, it is a monster of a cooler, needing quite a large case to house it successfully. I have two of them running in my i7 boxes (950 and 2700K, which runs at 4.8GHz nicely)

There is also limited room for the high profile RAM coolers which some kits come out with, so you will have to choose your RAM carefully to fit...

Would my current Antec Nine Hundred/2 suffice?

Rick Almeida

ironically I have the same case too...ive had it 18 months, its a tight fit, and I have an asus motherboard, putting the small power cable in the socket was a nightmare, As its down the side of the cooler which is quite sharp.

I remember have to get my girlfriend to get the cable in as her arms are quite skinny. And she has more patience then me!!!

I remember it took about 4 hours in total to get it all installed.

A good mate of mine has exactly the same set up as me, and he also says its a tight fit.  Make sure you the fans pointing the rigth way too !!

I have the Thermalright Archon SB-E X2. I think it is very similar to the Noctua NH-D14 anyway what I did to allow for Tall RAM was to put the second fan on the other side pulling instead of Pushing. Worked perfectly and I could put whatever Ram in the slots I wanted

It might work with the Noctua NH-D14 too!

It's not just the fans with the D14, it's the heat sink too that's over the ram slot.

The SB-E X2 cools very well, matching the D14 in some reviews.

I'm surprised you had any RAM clearance issues at all with the SB-E X2.

My NHD-14 has been running every day on top of my 2600k @4.5ghz for 2 years nearly.

My PC is on for at least 12hrs a day usually and it has not batted an eyelid.  Temps are the same running prime95 as they were the day I built the machine and setup my overclock.

Just a pity I got a poor overclcocker with my chip as it wont go past 4.6 unless I stick crazy voltage into it.

Can I clarify, that you are indeed referring to the Antec Nine Hundred Two? Thanks. And I too am using an Asus board, albeit a much longer-in-the-tooth one, a PQ5 De Luxe. I was intending to change the new case to a Corsair Carbide 300R so that I could fit the original plan of opting for a H100 liquid cooler in the roof.

My bad I have the SilverArrow SB-E Extreme

Ok, I'm showing off:

I5 2500K at 5Ghz 3+ years running using a Hyper 212+ (paid $20).

To the point though; if the Hyper can do the job then the D14 can do it better.
