March 24, 201412 yr With NVidia inspector I set my FPS limiter to 30, when I am in external views or in a not so cpu intense areas my frame rates spike dramatically as high as 70 fps, even with inspector my FPS are all over the place, I have tried using the default limiter but I take a huge frame rate hit when trying this so it is not an option for me. I have tried different drivers and am currently using the latest from NVidia 335.23. I always make sure I do a clean install and have even used driver cleaners in the past. I have regenerated numerous FSX.cfg files and I cant seem to figure out why the FPS limiter does not work and cant find anything on the internet. Any help would be appreciated, Oh and I always run Inspector as an administrator, though have have tried both. MY cfg file if this helps, I really don't use many tweaks. March 24, 201412 yr Check your monitor refresh rate - right click on desktop, select "screen resolution", click on "advanced settings" and select "monitor" tab. If you have 60Hertz under Screen refresh rate: in nvidia inspector, FSX profile, set vertical sync to 1/2 refresh rate, and set internal(fsx) limiter to 30. This is the way to get realy smooth FSX. With your system you can get a realy good performance. Try to folow some of recommended FSX guides, for your system i would recommend Word Not Allowed's guide - just google "Word Not Allowed's Flight Simulation World". I like to get maximum from my PC, but If you prefer more conservative settings, use AVSIM guide. Zeljko Budovic
March 24, 201412 yr Author My refresh rate is set to 30 on my monitors, and I use the 1/2 vsync refesh rate with inspector, I have Inspector set up exactly as described in Kostas guide, with the exception of the FPS limiter which I have set to 30. If I try using the FSX FPS limiter my performance drops by 5-10 fps. Paul Dhanjal CYEG
March 24, 201412 yr Spiking is caused by memory starvation where Autogen cannot be rendered fast enough. In the AVSIM FSX Configuration guide, there is a recommendation to use the Bufferpools tweak to tweak Autogen. There are a lot of BP settings out there. You just have to find the right one for your problem. Best regards, Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! If you have somehow set monitor refresh rate to 30, and you set 1/2 refresh rate in nvidia inspector - that would explain 10 - 15 fps frop. Your monitor(s) refresh rate should be 60, then you set 1/2 refresh rate in nvidia inspector(which means 30), and after that set internal limiter to 30fps. I'm just trying to eliminate misunderstandings about this Zeljko Budovic
March 24, 201412 yr Author Sorry I miss typed that, my refesh rate is at 60 htz. My FPS average between 20-33 fps in the NGX VC at say KIAD with most sliders to the full right and ai at say 30 percent, once I leave the airport and go into external views where its not so Frame rate intensive then I start to see spikes from as low as 20 to as high as 70ish, the point is not that's it spiking but how on earth is not stopping at 30 where i have the NI set. Are you saying IF using 1/2 Vsync locking your frames at 30 with the Inspector does not do anything, whenever I use the FSX limiter I lose frame rates. Not to sure about the Bufferpools setting, I have tried it in the past but saw no benefit, I have a 6 core intel I7 3930K. Not sure what the best setting is. Paul Dhanjal CYEG

Hi, Jim, I thought maybe I could finally figure out what a bufferpool is and how to configure them in FSX, so I went to here: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/398020-avsim-software-and-hardware-guide-for-fsx/ There I found the following link to the actual guide: http://forum.avsim.net/files/file/1-fsx-hardware-software-guide/ But that link gave me a message in red followed by an unable to find message. Where should I look? Thank you, Mike

For smooth flight - Best to use the internal limiter and stop looking at the fps counter.. If it is smooth.. you are good.. For maximum fps (and bragging rights) set the internal setting to Unlimited. Bert
March 25, 201412 yr thought maybe I could finally figure out what a bufferpool is and how to configure them in FSX, so I went to here: Do not know why you would have gone there. That guide is no longer available on AVSIM and was replaced by the AVSIM FSX Configuration Guide (link under Hot Spots to the right of this forum). Guides are constantly updated here at AVSIM to provide the latest information. My recommendation is to follow the excellent guidance by NickN at the following link - http://www.simforums.com/forums/drivers-nv-inspector-fsxcfg-complete-guide_topic36586.html. That's what I do. March 25, 201412 yr Maybe just pull the sliders down a bit.. worked for me.Got rid of the spikes. Robin "Onward & Upward" ... To the Stars, & Beyond...

March 25, 201412 yr Just one comment... Personally I get more smooth and FPS limiting it in Inspector instead of FSX... Enviado desde mi Nexus 5 mediante Tapatalk José Fco. March 26, 201412 yr For maximum fps (and bragging rights) set the internal setting to Unlimited And just to be awkward... I have no limiter at all, always run at unlimited. Very high frame rate, and zero stutters. Test conventional wisdom I say, may pay dividends. Set to unlimited was the best thing I've done for FSX.
