March 26, 201412 yr Speaking of Oculus Rift... Guess who's buying them. I'm not sure whether to cheer, laugh, sigh, or cry.
March 26, 201412 yr Hmm, just read that. It could be good, or bad… I see positives and then I see how a company like that could commercially constrain it. It is clear to me that the OR guys had a passion for the technology and for pushing it out. A company like FB could lock it down and hurt the creativity that has formed around it. They could get greedy. I would hate to see creativity stifled if developers are charged to develop for the hardware. On the flip it looks like FB may want to push it very mainstream. This can open up avenues and possibly bring costs down if they go to some subsidised hardware model with payware content. Lets just wait and see. One thing for sure. Palmer Luckey is feeling very lucky and I bet his $25M venture capital backers are licking their lips, they made a good deal.

March 26, 201412 yr I don't care at all what company buys OC. All I care about is when the darned thing will be finished for us customers! I want one!!!
March 26, 201412 yr I think the acquisition by facebook is a good thing. I am considering cancelling my pre-order. With a much larger company, they should have no problem sourcing components and strengthening their supply chain. I would think it would mean the consumer version 1.0 will come out much sooner.

March 26, 201412 yr Author How about getting back on topic... this is about Prepar3D... not Oculus. Not really off-topic, considering Prepar3D 2.2 will get Oculus Rift support. I'll also do my best to keep this thread updated with new patch info.
March 26, 201412 yr Moderator Maybe this should go into the Hardware forum? OR is just one small part of the 2.2 patch. Frankly, unless they make some MAJOR modifications, it will be all but useless in the flight sim world. Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
March 27, 201412 yr Not really off-topic, considering Prepar3D 2.2 will get Oculus Rift support. By that argument we could discuss the virtues of companies manufacturing different brands of RAM in this thread, because P3D runs in RAM. But no, Facebook buying the Rift is off-topic.
March 27, 201412 yr yep, FB buying Oculus is off topic. P3d supporting the rift is certainly on topic and the best thing in this update for me. I am more than happy to talk about how the rift might work successfully in p3d or flight sim in general, in this thread. Dont care about the purchase of the company though.
March 29, 201412 yr Author Wes Bard on NVIDIA 3D Vision and release date: Unfortunately it's a little harder said than done to get 3DVision back. It'd be a good bit of programming on our end, and might only be possible under certain Operating Systems with DX11. We're still looking into it. We're hoping to get 2.2 out to everyone next week. Cleanup and testing is going very well. If you're on some other forums, make sure you thank your local testers, and thank your favorite developers that are also helping us test and provide feedback. With their help and feedback we are able to release patches and features much more quickly. http://www.prepar3d.com/forum-5/?mingleforumaction=viewtopic&t=6173.5
