Do you feel like you are chasing your tail

Featured Replies

I have been for the last two weeks since rebuilding my system I have been in a never ending battle to do just one thing - fly my sims.  But that has not been really a posibility when it seems I am fixing one thing, that effect another, that effects another,,,,,,you get the point.  So yesterday I have decided to do something to give myself some piece of mind - I am not chasing my tail.  Yesterday I removed migrator from P3D, I removed Captain Sim 757 and 767, and a couple utility programs that need migrator.  First - this is not a slam again Paavlo from migrator - he has been super and responsive, the problem is Microsoft - Lockheed Martin - Captain Sim - PMDG - Ifly - not to name more, that are like congress, lots of talk and more problems than solutions seems to come from the mix.

So what I am doing is  this:  I want to purchase a program- it must be P3D installable.  I am not buying anymore FSX programs;  If it is freeware and migrator is needed for install - it gets one shot to work, any bugs that keeps me trying to work the problem is booted off P3D and Migrator is removed again after the install.

My hope is that P3D's next evolution will give us more benefits than headaches.

Bottom line fellow pilots - we are the source of money for those that want us to purchase, the more we acquiesce to them the more we have to turn our hobby into an issue!

Well, frankly trying to use FSX products in P3Dv2.x is just like trying to put hexagonal pegs into square holes...

Well said.  I think if a product is released and is not a true P3D 2.x product, I would not be surprised to see issues.  If however a company releases a product and touts it as P3D 2.x, and it does not function properly, that is most definitely an issue, because we are paying for a fully functional product... not one where the lights don't work, etc.

Migrating software from FSX is hit or miss... and to me evidence of the early stages of 2.0... simply put, it is very new, and thus not all companies have updated installers, made it compatible, etc.

Hexagons sort of fit square holes ...

Creating the installer is a trivial task. Actually it's no more complicated than using the Registry path for P3D v2.x instead of the one for FSX... ;)

It's getting all of the .fx files and other features working reliably and more importantly all at the same time that's proving to be somewhat of a "challenge..."

Okay, I'll grant you that one. How about a 2" round peg in a 2" triangular hole then? :LMAO:

A ray of sunshine happened yesterday, I purchased the QW757 and could not be happier, I did not need an installer program, it loaded with out a glitch, it started up without a hickup and too boot, it looks great.  So now we have 3 software makers that get it, Mastic with the Q400, Aerosoft A320, and now QW 757.  After reviewing QW site last night they are going to come out with a 787 next and then they will focus on the 737-200 thru 500 models.

Bill, I know we have a section that list compatability but we know that is not always correct case in point CS777 or the CS757/767 that need migrator to work, is it possible that we could start a thread for just those products that will self install to P3D?

Now if they could just come up with a new Comms program for VATSIM, I have given up on FSINN, I am going to try and make SB work.

All in all, I like the way things are going thus far!

I'm glad that QW757 works in P3D for you but still not a true P3D product yet, no support:

Quote from QWS website

"This product is NOT developed for and does NOT carry an official compatibility endorsement from QualityWings Simulations for Prepar3D. Installation is authorized, but does NOT carry support from QualityWings."

Jim, its about steps forward, if we would have asked a year ago if QW was going to do this we would have had the EULA crowd barking at us, now they they, next will be the support.  What will cinch the deal is when P3D is counted as a stable platform.

Totally agree, and I'm with you, I will not buy another program or hardward for that matter that does not have native P3D installation and support. Vote with your money I say, developers will be quick to follow!

Cheers,

Jim

I'll be supporting anything at least with partial or confirmed future P3D v2 support.

Our community isn't big enough to simply wait until flawless P3D compatibility for everything. Cash flow is important and I'd hate to see a great developer go down never having been able to get so far as to officially support the new platform simply because everyone is waiting until it's ready and not paying their wages and R&D.

Having said that, as I've never installed FSX on my new (now old) computer I'm buying add-ons that at least somewhat work without crashing or blowing up my comp. Or, I'll buy it and wait until it's compatible.

Guys, I can assure you developers want to get on board as bad as you want them to. P3Dv2 is not P3Dv1.4/FSX. I think we can officially day it's a whole new sim. But like any major development it has had it's issues. The big ones are largely fixed in v2.2, which is what a lot of developers are waiting for. Once it gets released, give it time and you'll begin to see native P3D aircraft hit the market. Remember, v2.x is not even 6 months old, and already we are at v2.2. Just wait and see. The guys at LM are doing a killer job.

Good comment. While I am also waiting for a good sample of products built for P3Dv2.x, I can also appreciate the time it takes for developers to get these products going.

It's been so many years since we last had a new sim, since FSX was developed. Prior to FSX, every 2-3 years we would get a new sim (FS4, FS5, FS98, etc.) All new and better versions of MSFS. We would all whine about waiting for the new sim to arrive,, as we got wind that other members here were under NDA's. Then finally it would arrive, but then the developers needed time to get products coded for the new sim- so, in some cases for up to 6 months with a few exceptions, all we would have were stock aircraft. So, we'd start whining again.... then we'd get third party products, then we'd whine again for a new sim.... always wanting more than we had.

Don't get me wrong- I'm not saying the OP is "whining", far from it.... I think we'll keep always wanting more until our sims actually fly....

Thanks, Bruce.
