Malaysian 777 down in Ukraine

Featured Replies

Mind you, now that we have pretty certain confirmation that is was a SAM shoot-down, the lines get very blurry rather quickly.

Yeah, but... we have already banned a view folks from this topic for taking it political. Blurred or not, the politics will stay out.

Absolutely.

If the plane was not in fact shot down, Malysain Airlines is going to be under the radar so to speak.

I hate to be under-educated, but what happened to the last one? Did they ever verify what happened?

They will pay their share of responsibility for sure.

Who decided that's a safe route for flight? How they determined that FL320 is unsafe, but FL330 is safe for flight. Several military aircraft have been shot down already in that area. That was just a stupid idea to fly through that airspace.

More stupid idea to shoot down a civilian airliner.

Seems their was a rogue soldier or platoon or rebels in the area that had the means and interest in escalating things.....this has happened in many ways over the history of mankind.

We always repeat history.

But note I highlight seems because their is no way I would know at this point....just seems to me is all

Are you just making stuff up now? How is Malaysian airlines responsible in any way? The flight followed a perfectly legal route like many other operators today.   All operators in the area are under radar control at all times.  They are instructed to be above FL320, FL330 was obviously the optimum altitude for that phase of flight.

Are you suggesting the dispatchers should add a buffer zone on top of the buffer zone?

It's a war zone, missiles and rockets flying all around. There is high risk of being shot down, so why even trying it? It's like traveling in Mogadishu for holiday.

No I suggest closure of entire airspace affected by war.

Kind of like saying the Lusitania was free of all responsibility as well. Don't you think it better to avoid an area of conflict rather then plot a course through it?

Don't get me wrong. I agree with you that the most prudent thing to do would have been to stay clear of the whole region. But I don't think MAS is to blame. The airspace over Ukraine has seen countless airline traffic transiting for as long as this conflict has excisted.

Hindsight is 20/20.

Quite plausible.

Exactly, hindsight!. suddenly everyone is an expert..   Civilian aircraft have not been considered targets, even the Pro Russia rebels are denying the capability to shoot down an airliner in cruise.  This is a major screw up.

That's the sad part. No one in Ukraine, Eurocontrol, and in surrounding, traffic feeding, countries recognized danger. Airlines neither.

If military jets keep crashing every day, that's a really big sign there's no room for civilian aircraft.
