July 21, 201411 yr Actually - if anything the 5.1 sounds will have a slightly smaller VAS impact as they use mono files, while the stereo soundset uses stereo sounds Looks like a typo on the Operations Center - The 5.1 sounds are for the cockpit / interior - so please give them a try. What do you mean it's a typo...it clearly says 22 khz lower sound quality for the interior model when compared to stock. Thanks Jakub, I expect to order the Logitech Z506 5.1 system when my supplier has the stock. Cost 59 GBP. Cheers, Richard You will not be disappointed. Jakub Wesolowski
July 22, 201411 yr You will love the 5.1 if you haven't experienced it yet. I've been running a 5.1 system ever since it came out, and until now, I never had the chance to hear them in use in a cockpit atmosphere. The trick is to position the speakers correctly to get the full effect. The "rear" (or side) speakers do not have to be actually totally behind you, but off to the sides and slightly behind. I like the front speakers right next to the monitor, and the center speaker sits either under the monitor or in my case, in a small shelf just below my keyboard. The bass speaker has no real criteria, as it is omni-directional and can be placed anywhere. Want a real thrill? Put it under your chair (if you can figure out how to do that. And I may be wrong, but I don't think there will be any VAS hit using the 5.1 sounds. Your sound card handles all of the distribution - the only thing that would matter is how the sounds are loaded. -= Gary Barth =-
July 22, 201411 yr There is no need to put a subwoofer under your chair. They made a buttkicker for that purpose. Check it out http://www.thebuttkicker.com Jakub Wesolowski

Check it out http://www.thebuttkicker.com Well, if you want to pay another $150 minimum for the thrill of feeling the rumble in your seat, be my guest. But I've found that placing the subwoofer of my Logitech close to my chair does a similar job. So much so that when I push the throttles forward in the 777, my wife pleads with me to turn the sound down. I think the Buttkicker systems are neat, but in my case, anyway, they're out of my budget range. Some of them are upwards of $600!! -= Gary Barth =-
July 23, 201411 yr What do you mean it's a typo...it clearly says 22 khz lower sound quality for the interior model when compared to stock. The typo has been fixed - it was related to the Stereo / 5.1 Surround soundsets - the typo was that these soundsets were in the "External" section in the OC but they are for the cockpit only! July 26, 201411 yr My front left, front right, front center and sub-woofer speakers are working well but I am not getting sound to either of my rear speakers. I have Logitech Z506. The Windows 7 Sound.Playback panel shows 'Realtek High Definition Audio' as the default device, and Speaker Setup shows Audio channels set to '5.1 Surround'. Clicking any speaker icon, except the rear speakers, produces the correct sounds. But when I click either of the rear speaker icons, I see them activate, but no sound is produced. I suspected my wiring to the sub-woofer panel, but both the blue and black jacks (rear speakers) are plugged to their correct socket. Any ideas to get this working? Cheers, Richard Go to control panel and check to make sure you installed your sound control panel and check its settings. Additionally, your motherboard/soundcard needs to be 5.1 compatible. Lastly check to ensure you plugged the wires into the corresponding jacks. There are times you won't hear anything from rear speakers depending on a scenario. The sound creator must place the logic for them to be used. Also check to make sure PMDG OC you have downloaded the 5.1 sound set and are using them. Jakub Wesolowski
July 26, 201411 yr Problems persist. 1. I am not sure that the OC feature for downloading the 5.1 software has worked. Ryan Mazziarz has accepted my ticket to fix the lack of feedback when choosing to download the software. 2. I have the same problem with the B77L as above. 3. I do not know how to check that my motherboard has 5.1 ability. Audio is being driven by Realtek Audio which appears to be 5.1 capable. July 31, 201411 yr I have what appears to be stereo sound. When I view the VC from captain's seat forward, I have mainly aircon sounds. When I look towards the radio stack, I get the significant sounds of the engines roaring. I have rechecked my 5.1 system wiring. The Green, Black and Pink/Buff jacks are in their matching sockets. I still do not understand how to determine whether my motherboard is 5.1 capable. Choosing Configure Speakers gives Speaker Setup which shows Audio channels set to 5.1 Surround. To the right is shown a 5.1 diagram. Pressing the Test button gives the sounds in all three front speakers (L, C & R) and subwoofer. It also highlights the two rear speakers but they remain silent. Pressing Next gives Customize your configuration. Optional speakers are checked for Center, Subwoofer and Rear pair, and not checked for Side Pair. Again, clicking the three front speakers and subwoofer gives sounds, but the rear speakers are highlighted but silent. Again pressing Next gives Select full-range speakers. Both check boxes are ticked. Unticking either or both has no effect. Again, pressing Next gives Select full-range speakers. Both check boxes are ticked. Unticking either or both has no effect. Clicking Properties from Speakers gives Speakers Properties with five tabs. Speakers Properties shows Controller Information as Realtek High Definition Audio whose Properties show the device to be working. Device usage shows the device to be enabled. Speaker Properties.Levels shows Realtek HD Audio output to be 100; Side to 100 and Balance L&R to 100; Center to 100; Subwoofer to 100; Rear to 100 and Balance L&R to 100; Front to 100 and Balance L&R to 100. Speaker Properties.Enhancements show all boxes unchecked, except for Bass Management and Room Correction both checked. Setting set to either None or Generic had no effect. The DTS tab contains several settings, none of which are active. The Advanced tab shows Default Format as 24 bit, 48000 Hz (Studio Quality) and testing gives the same results i.e. no sound from rear speakers. Both Exclusive Mode boxes are checked. July 31, 201411 yr On some drivers it used to be neccesary to select side instead of rear to get surround. I think that may have been changed on more recent drivers so either select side or update sound driver. Regards Howard H D Isaacs
August 3, 201411 yr I have downloaded and installed for use with my 5.1 system. They sound nice but I am slightly disappointed by the sound staging in 5.1, particularly compared to the NGX. For example, the current 5.1 sound set still seems to bias engine sound in particular toward the front speakers rather than the rear, so when the engines are being noisy, the sound image appears to be coming more from the front corners of the cockpit rather than the rear corners, as I would expect. It's still very nice but not as convincing and immersive as I had hoped for. In comparison, the over all staging in the NGX is quite a bit more separated and gives a more convincing impression of directional sounds from different sources. Also, in the NGX, the staging appears to move with head movement and I can't detect anything like that in the T7. I'd also like to hear more separation for other sounds such as the flap lever etc. As it is on my right, I'd expect to hear its operational sounds on the right but instead it seems to be a very centrally staged sound, as is the case with all of the other internal control sounds. I'd be very interested to hear other people's experiences in comparison, if nothing else just to reassure me that my system is reproducing the effects correctly. I have run other out of simulator tests to verify that my 5.1 is working correctly, which it is. I am also running it directly from my sound card optical output to the optical input of my 5.1 receiver, so there is no chance of channels being cross wired! Best wishes, Luke

The first time I tried surround I forgot about that and engine sound came out of my 2 stereo speakers and the rear speakers of my 5.1 setup simultaneously.
August 3, 201411 yr Hi Armchair pilot. Yes, I have the digital (optical) output selected in the FMC which sends everything out via the optical. If it wasn't selected I'd have no sound at all because that's the only output from the PC I am using...
