Everyone should buy this? Say what?I don't think so. (I am speaking for myself)Is it a great Job? I think it is. If this was an airport in the Dallas Fort worth area (My home) or in the California which I like to fly in that area, or the PNW or NY.. I would have bought it.I wouldn't have thought $40 is too much then. The thing is... If it weren't isolated, and if it were in the midst of other scenaries and addons.... each one complimenting and adding value to one another. then its value would become force multiplier.I bought the awesome Aerosofts Manhatten scenary and it so well complimented Mega Scenary NY. If this airport was Tetroboro for instance,,, I would have grabbed it. Cause Tetroboro airport would have sat on top of MegaScenary and the Manhatten scenary and on Other Airport scenaries like JFK or La Guardia... providing a value added environment. I am now seriously thinking of the Georender PNW airport environment since I got the Megascenary PNW and can't wait for the Seattle Airport from Fly Tampa. I am looking forward to the SPOKANE, WA aiport. An airport in Tennessee would not appeal to me....cause I would have to build an environement from scratch. (except for folks who live in Tennesse perhaps). Its the same reason..I did not get the aweosme Japan scenary.EDITED TO ADD:Hmmm.. RI is only about 120 nm from Manhatten.... Hmm..its not exactly close (I don't fly big jets..I fly Cessnas etc) and it would take an hr to fly from here to NY.... and If I fly the ATR1 then It may take 1/2 an hr or so..so it may not be too bad. Its not quite local... Hmm...I am thinking.

I agree with Manny. There's no denying that it looks like one of the best airport/small region sceneries to date...but I know that if I bought it, I would just mess around with it for a couple of hours flying between the few airports in the small area, then get bored with it (as happened with FranceVFR). A lower price might convince those who have no interest in/are not familiar with the area to also check out this scenery. The PNW area is looking to become one of the best scenery areas of FS in terms of "completeness", second after only England+Wales (VFR+VFR Terrain+UK2000 = flightsim goodness). Thanks to MegaScenery and Georender you can now take off from photoreal airfields, fly over photoreal terrain for hours and land at another photoreal airport. The best thing, he is going to update all his airfields to make them 100% compatible with the MegaScenery. Meanwhile, deleting the *img.bgl files from the Georender fields works in most (but not all) cases.

"Free Market" you say?! No! Actually, it's more like greediness and highway robbery DISGUISED as a free market! Please make the distinction. One tiny little area which is not even that beautiful as far as world sceneries go - I'd rather pay that for Paris, or London or Prague - now those are beautiful! Really now, Rhode Island? Come on! It is not even worth $20.00 US!John

According to 80% of the world, greediness and highway robbery are the definition of Free market. There is no distinction, a gray line at best.Rhode Island? Not worth 20 dollars to you, but to someone who has an attachment, fondness, or a flying experience there, it is worth, what it is worth to them. I would not pay 5 dollars for Paris. I would easily pay more than that for my local area. The producers of the scenery have to make the choice to appeal to a small market of highly interested, or a larger market of less interested. I too wish more people went of for the larger market, lower price. I fly the Eastern Corridors alot, so KPVD appeals to me. I came here to read about it, to make my decision. I would be concerned if people who purchased it were posting that it is over priced. (I could say that a night in the John Howard Hotel in London is over priced. I can not say that a night at the Strand Palace Hotel is overpriced, I have not stayed there. I did not stay there because it was too high for my criteria, but that does not mean it was overpriced.)"Opinions, opinions, all stated like facts." The originator started the post about the quality of the scenery, and it always turns into a debate over economics. I have never understood why people who freely choose not to purchase something, be it lack of desire or funds, post complaints about the price. I don't post on BMW forums stating why I don't buy an M3 (because I think they are over priced). I just don't. The people who read that forum don't give a ____ why I don't buy one.You have made your decision, stop reading the thread and consuming bandwith. Move on. Buy something else and post some feedback on what you observe about that product for the rest of us. If you haven't bought the product, the people reading here to find out about it, don't really care why you made your decisions. They are making theirs, and want to hear from those who have it. They will decide what is beautiful, and what is worth 40 dollars. We should keep our opinions of free market, and what parts of the world are beautiful to ourselves. I did say We. I broke my golden rule of posting my opinion on the replies instead of the topic, and I apologize. I am just tired of the whining. IF you have bought it, tell everyone what you think... otherwise, don't try to convince your choice not to is right, you are the only one that has to live with it.respectfully,DM

>"Free Market" you say?! No! Actually, it's more like>greediness and highway robbery DISGUISED as a free market! >Please make the distinction.>You are the one missing the distinction. Highway robbery is if MS releases a flight sim which only runs with a MS Sidewinder joystick, then charges an excessive price for that joystick. Highway robbery is forcing the consumer to have their car dealer serviced to maintain the warranty and then charging 150% of the normal garage rate. The consumer is forced to pay an inflated price for an essential product.Free market is setting a price you choose for a unique product and then seeing if the market will bear that price for a product which is non-essential. The consumer can choose to buy it or not based on their own personal perception of value. Some have chosen and are satisfied, you can choose not to. Stephen

I broke down and bought it. I am very impressed from what I have seen so far. The whole package blends together nicely. RI is not an area I have ever flight simmed in before, but that is part of the fun of simming, exploring new places. It is more than I would have liked to spent, but I am not disappointed in what I purchased. Tony

I do apologize to all who had to endure my moment frustration and rant. I would liike to make it up, by posting this link, which has a two fold purpose. One, it is some great shots of the Rhode Island scenery, and some awesome F/A18 flying. Second, read the thread. The moment someone starts to stray off topic, to discuss economics, he is told. IF someone starts a thead "The reasons I did not buy Rhode Island", then they can appropriately list all of the reasons they did not, and their unqualified opinions on the product. Most of us will skip that thread. This thread was supposed to be about 'the bar being raised'. The quality of the scenery. This serious of shots is hot. The quality of the scenery is hard to argue with, and I doubt he was getting 7 to 15 frames per second, or he would have put that bird on the deck, topside down. Nice DDG sailing into port as well. I would like to find that ship.http://www.fs2004.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=43668NOTE: DDG-173 is actually a KONGO Class Destroyer, which is like an ARLEIGH BURKE class destroyer sold to the Japaneese Maritime Defense Fleet through Foriegn Military Sales. The ship was purchased new from the shipyard. The US is not selling off her fleet. )DM

If FS2004 itself, an entire simulation with multiple sceneries and aircraft - costs around $49 Cdn. today and a single small area, no matter how beautiful, comes out and costs around $50.00 Cdn. all by itself, you don't think that's a "tad" overpriced do you?As for my opinions of the Free Market - you are in no position to tell me or anyone else WHAT opinions people can post in these forums. In case you haven't noticed, these forums are for EXACTLY that - free opinions, especially if they are valid ones. I am not taking "cheap shots" at the scenery - just the price. If these scenery companies can get flightsimmers to buy and hence "justify" their exuberant price, then what's next? Eventually, many scenery designers will just keep raising their prices, then aircraft designers will follow suit and pretty soon, will you be willing to pay $80.00 for the same scenery 2 years from now? A price increase spiral can develop over this "free market" idea and those, like low-income earners or students, who cannot afford these over-priced payware won't be able to have the same enjoyments as those of us who can. Did you ever think about that? Do you care? Now you see why I say it is "highway ROBBERY"? It robs people of their hard-earned cash by capitalizing on their "addiction" or love for beautiful scenery. I saw the screenshots of this Rhode Island scenery - they are nothing special at all - I've seen freeware which are just as good. For your info - I did not even buy the amazing Aerosoft Manhattan scenery because of its price. Let's face it - ask yourself this question as a flightsimmer: What is our primary goal in FS? Is it to learn how to fly and learn procedure, or to enjoy nice scenery? Sooner or later, you'll probably realize that it is to learn various kinds of aircraft and about procedures of flying in the real world - this is what gives satisfaction of accomplishment to flightsimmers. Scenery is "eye-candy". Since we fly from airport to airpot following specific routes, we may not even fly over the city itself. This is why I prefer to pay for airport sceneries, for 29.95 Euro is pricey for just the city of New York; if JFK and Laguardia were included on the other hand, I would have bought it.John

All valid opinions. Except:"What is our primary goal in FS? Is it to learn how to fly and learn procedure, or to enjoy nice scenery? Sooner or later, you'll probably realize that it is to learn various kinds of aircraft and about procedures of flying in the real world - this is what gives satisfaction of accomplishment to flightsimmers. "I don't think you can assume why people flight sim. I imagine there are people who do it for the scenery (environment).I can only answer for myself.I learn my procedures in an aircraft.I practice my navigation in Flight Sim.I buy eye candy for the fun of it, and to add to the experience of 'pilotage'. (I have a stopwatch on my flight sim desk.)I flight sim big iron trans-atlantic with and with out an FMC for the challenge, and to do a little dreaming of far away places. If you see nothing special in the scenery, then you did not look at the link I posted (The Blue Angel guy flying over RI.) Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and if you don't behold it, don't buy it, great! If you want to try to convince the world to band together and stop buying high price add-ons to control the market price of add ons in the name of making it possible for people of every economic standing to be able to enjoy everything available for flight simming, I wish you well."As the technolgy increases, so will the cost, and so will the cost of living...""Flight Simming is scaled down economy of flying in the real world. The more your do it the more it cost. "I never said I was pleased over the price. I tried to make a point that this was a thread about the technology, and failed. I then wandered off topic in a discussion on what is a fair market price, and that in a free market there are no hard rules for justifying your price. (I doubt scenery developers use CMMI.)I regret getting into this debate, and I am sure the readers wish we would STFU. These debates have a way of turning into a contest of 'trying to put each other in there place' and we are surely headed in that direction. I know from your post you are a reasonable, and enjoyable poster. I don't care to engage with you because you have valid input in this forum and have I enjoyed reading your post. I apologize for previous rants, and will refrain from commenting off topic. So I will close with, "Yes I see your valid point of view and you have justified it to me. Thank you for making it clear. I respect your opinions and retain mine." as gentlemen,Dennis

That was me,After discussing it with several people who have it running well, I am convinced that something did not install correctly. I will try it again this evening. You did a very nice job on this and many have enjoyed it. I believe it obviously works for many, and I want to be one of the ones enjoying it. I will install, test and then email with you on the results.Dennis Mitchell

Hi Dennis,Thanks for your gentelemanly comments (excuse the pun:). It's great to get a reply as civilized as yours for that doesn't always happen in these forums.Don't worry, I won't turn this into an contest. I was just "passionate" about the price (hey, it rhymes!)Take care and enjoy the scenery!John

I know I don't have 10,000 posts on this forum and some are going to discount my opinion in the way in which some do, but I'm going to post at how amazed I am at some of the opinions expressed. Everyone has the right to express their opinions, but I can also be amazed.I live in New England. I fly all around New England in real life and in FS9. To me, Rhode Island is familiar territory. I did my first solo x-country to PVD as a student. To me, well done scenery of the area in which I fly is a huge benefit worth paying for, despite the cost. If others feel that they don't have the money or don't want to fly in the area, then don't. Quite honestly, I have no interest in flying the sim in Europe, Asia, or Africa. Does that mean that high quality add ons for these areas are a waste? Of course not.As for the price, if the price is too high, don't buy it. If you don't like Rhode Island, don't buy the scenery. If you only want to fly a 747 at FL310, then don't buy it. But please, don't insult the intelligence of those of us who live and fly in this area and want to spend our hard earned money on what we think is a spectacular product.

The problem is at $40 this scenery addon is a "niche" product, which will only appeal the those who have a particular insterest in the area, as you do, or those with money burning a hole in there pocket.I would guess that the sales will probably show this, if they were to have released it at a lower price point I am also quite sure that the would have had a big increase in sales, because it becomes more of an impulse product, which at the lower price any simmer can afford to enjoy.I am lucky to be in a position where I can afford these addons, but many I know are not in this position, and as such are being priced out of enjoying these nice addons, where will it end I wonder. I sometimes feel as if the soul of FS is being torn out and replaced by a big commericial behemoth driven by profits. At the end of the day the developers know how much time and effort they put into this product, and ultimatly know if $40 is a fair price point, if they feel it is then as we are in a free market they are quite intitled to price it how they want.Any anyone thinking that high-quailiy, detailed and photo real scenery is only the realms of payware would do well to look here > http://mazzokan.altervista.org/sicilia.html#EtnaDan.

Right on Dan! That's exactly what it is in "marketing" terms - a niche product! You hit the nail right on the head!John
