April 16, 200521 yr Michael first a note is that the actual images via Nasa World Wind are from 2003 I believe... so maybe something changed...As for tire marks see screenshots...http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/113126.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/113127.jpgAndr André
April 16, 200521 yr >are from 2003 I believe... so maybe something changed...well, since 2003 there must be even more rubber left on the runway. ;-)>As for tire marks see screenshots...Ok, the bottom picture I can see tire marks ok. But this is the smaller airport, not KPVD right? But the top picture I believe shows not tire marks but seasonal (winter) changes to the runway which by the way look awesome. Take the summer picture of approach to runway 23 and then we will know ...Michael J.WinXP-Home SP2,AMD64 3500+,Abit AV8,Radeon X800Pro,36GB Raptor,1GB PC3200,Audigy 2 Michael J.
April 16, 200521 yr Michael maybe recent new payvement could changed that ;-)No this is KPVD (only from a high angle and runway 5 happy to make more screenies to sent them by e-mail...Andr André

April 16, 200521 yr Why argue over the price? That comes down to each person's personal choice and how they fly. For those who like to fly all over the world and not stay in a particular area, the product is probably not worth it. Howver for those of us who like the North East US area, it might look more attractive. The airports in the product are just a short hop from Boston and the NY/NJ area. I don't own this product as I am still deciding to buy. As for "price gauging" or "highway robbery", I just don't see the problem. The company sets a price and each person decides on what to buy. There is no monopoly, or other unfair market forces influecing people. ------------------------- Craig from KBUF

April 16, 200521 yr "The problem is at $40 this scenery addon is a "niche"product, which will only appeal the those who have aparticular insterest in the area, as you do, or those withmoney burning a hole in there pocket.I would guess that the sales will probably show this..."Exactly! That's the point. If I've got nothing better to dowith my money than blow it on $40 addons for FS9, why do youor anyone else care? If the price is too high for the market to take, then theauthor will lower his price or go out of business. No onehas the right to someone else's work for free unless theydecide to give it. I read on this forum what in my opinion is a misguided feelingthat some feel that we are owed "freeware" which is nothingmore than the hard work of others for free. If some aregenerous with their time and work, then I applaud theirgenerosity. If others want to charge what they feel is a fairprice for their work, and I want to pay it, WHY DO YOUCARE??????I couldn't agree more!!!Some of te opinions here are truly amazing to read, just proves that people don't always think alike. My persoanl view, while I think the price is a bit high and that might leave some out of getting it, it's the designers choice and if it limits his sales, he'll lower it. His freeware scenery at LFRD is outstanding, so it's not like he has given the freeware supporter people something.I don't fly in the RI area, I don't even fly around Dallas and I live here, doesn't mean I won't want to check out this scenery. That's the beauty of FS, I can fly where, when and what I want. What really got me in this thread is the ASSUMPTION that we all are using FS for procedural training - BS!! 90% of my flights are GA VFR looking at the scenery as I fly over it with the only IFR I do is when it's IMC and I don't have a choice!Since I don't have it I can't judge it, but I plan to order it after I type this, just because from what I have seen and read I need to know if it all true. If it is, this is going to be the stadard "I" will have for any addon scenery in the future.Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/mcdcvabanner.jpgCalVirAir International Best, Michael KDFW
April 17, 200521 yr RE: pricing, I think many EEU sellers are having to analyze the effect of the current weak USD. 30 euros may be a good price/value but pushing US$40 may be a little much over here. Time will tell one way or the other. As always, willing seller / able buyer will determine the market value.scott s..
April 17, 200521 yr Man, am I impressed! Just got this from Simmarket, installed and loaded up the new bell jetranger from Owen Hewitt at KPVD and flew around for an hour. As a scenery designer and a 3D modeler, I am just amazed at the detail and the great performance, I mean, there are 3d objects everywhere and not a single "hit" as you pan anywhere, it is that smooth. The way the world is portrayed from the air is very realistic looking based on what I have seen from RW flights. All we need is moving traffic to complete this scene.Looks like I need to ship my stuff up to RI for awhile as it's now my default start up! LOLBased on this 1 hour flight, I'll purchase any scenery in the US from these guys, MS needs to take note also!Man, I would LOVE a version of KADS (and surrounding area) from these guys!!!Finally real 3d cars and not a funky unrealistic photo of a parking lot, it can be done with great performance!Andre' you are correct, the bar has been raised....high!Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/mcdcvabanner.jpgCalVirAir Internationalhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/113158.jpg Best, Michael KDFW

April 17, 200521 yr Michael,I never said anything about IFR - did you read and properly understand my posting?! * 100% * of MY flights are actually VFR but with modified course and altitude corresponding to commercial jet flight levels and I do look at the scenery but mainly the airports. If I want a low-level flight over a city, I'd pick my Flight 1 Cessna 172 for a short "sight-seeing" fly-over.Regardless of whether you want to even care to learn about flight procedures and how each plane handles differently, several people have said the same thing that $40US for a mere scenery is "greedy" or "too much" and that's EXACTLY WHAT IT IS! PERIOD! ... Oh, and by the way - what do you think is meant by "F-L-I-G-H-T S-I-M-U-L-A-T-O-R" -> a scenery "adventure" game or a modeling of real-world flight but with beautiful scenery to "enhance" your flight experience. If you fly mainly for the scenery, then by all means and go ahead and waste your money on $40 US scenery...who am I to stop you.And as for some people who for some reason understood my COMPARISON of free-ware quality to this Rhode Island scenery to mean that I EXPECT freeware, I was only making the comparison that the quality of this scenery is no better than some of the amazing freeware I've installed on my system (e.g. Soekarno-Hatta airport in Jakarta, Old Jeruselam city scenery). I admire free-ware makers even more now that I see payware makers shamelessly jacking up their prices like they have for this Rhode Island scenery... but of course, "shame", "humbleness", "caring" are quicly becoming dirty words in today's God-Forsaken World.John I love flying my "iddy biddy Jumbo" CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400, socket 775/3GHz/1333MHz bus/6MB cache MOBO: Asus P5E3 Deluxe WiFi-AP@n/Intel X38 chipset RAM: 4GB Kingston HyperX 1333MHz. rated 7-7-7-20, matched pair (2 x 2GB) GRAPHICS: Sapphire Radeon 5770HD 1GB (w/ fan) MONITOR: Samsung 24", 2494HM LCD wide-screen 1920x1080 SOUND: SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS HARD DRIVES: 1xWestern Digital WD1600JD SATA 160GB (primary/Windows XP and system boot drive) 1xWestern Digital WD3200AAJS SATA2 320GB (secondary/Flight Simulator 2004 running off WinXP Pro 32-bit, games video editing drive) 1xWestern Digital 500GB Black series SATA2 (Windows 7 64-bit: FSX is running off Win7; Windows XP Professional 32-bit) CASE: Antec Sonata III 500W OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit for FSX; Windows XP Pro 32-bit for other things.
April 17, 200521 yr Dan,No bashing here. You're 100% correct that you can express and have your opinion. I said that previously. I just don't understand the problem that you or anyone has with someone charging whatever they want for their product. That was my point about freeware. If it's given for free, that's noble and generous. On the other hand, any person who works hard can offer a product for sale at whatever price they want. We as consumers are then free to buy or not. I bought a few of the Megascenery titles. After purchase, I thought they were overpriced and the quality and support was awful. Needless to say I won't be buying more. The same rule applies to any product. I would love a Mercedes and think that they cost too much and should be less expensive. Does that mean that the dealer is "greedy" because he charges what the product is worth and I have to settle for a Honda instead? Have a great Sunday.-Neil
April 17, 200521 yr Based on what I read here, I bought the scenery, even though I don't fly much in this part of the world. It is outstanding as mentioned above, especially that everything blends so naturally together and especially in light of all the objects scattered about.Just like you Michael, I'm moving my startup to RI :)Thanks Andre for the heads-up!
