GoFlight 8 Switch Toggle Panels

Featured Replies

Hi,

Continuing my venture to add some switches to my sim, I have stumbled across two neat-looking panels: the GF 8 toggle switch panel (http://www.flightsimstore.com/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=158&products_id=1187) and 8 pushbutton panel (http://www.flightsimstore.com/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=158&products_id=1186).

Since Google search results did not give software compatibility, I'd like to ask: does anyone know if these panels are configurable with FSUIPC and/or LINDA? I'm looking at purchasing two of these panels and using them with complex add-ons (PMDG, LDS, Aerosoft etc.)

Thank you in advance for assistance.

Thanks,

Kevin L

I have both of these panels; in fact, they are so old, they are almost prototypes. I got them when they first came out, oh, probably back in early 2000s.They are not supported  by GoFLight anymore but still work quite well. (I also have the radio panel, autopilot and gear controls)

They are completely compatibale with FSX, P3D and X-plane, and program easily with FSUIPC. Not sure about LINDA, as I've not used it.

Two of the toggle switches broke some time ago, but the units are very durable, as mine have withstood years of moving and being taken in and out of storage as my interest in simming waxed and waned.

IF you're wanting to add switches, here's another thing you might try... something called HIDmacros. It allows you to plug in any USB keyboard device and program the buttons for the sims.

I use it with a couple of USB keypads I got on Amazon and have programmed them to program the GPS system and autopilot controls in both P2D V2 and X-Plane. I then  mounted them on small pieces of wood that I attached to my desktop (one I picked up at Goodwill, so I can drill all the holes in it I want) using angle brackets.

It's freeware (although I did donate to the developer, it's that good) and the keypads are very cheap.I cover the keys with printed stickers, and they work quite well.

As 3D printing continues to get better and less expensive, people are going to be taking those switches out of the keypads (and using other types of switches) and mounting them to the GPS plates (or units) they make.

It will give use flight sim guys even more to do!

The Goflight Interface Tool provides full compatibility with the PMDG NGX and 777 for all Goflight hardware. It also contains facilities to implement to simconnect compliant aircraft as well as non standard aircraft.

You can get it at www.pollypot-software.org.uk

Thanks for your quick replies! I think I'll try HID Macros for the time being.

Dave, it sure will be great for flight simmers when 3D printing becomes available for the masses!

Stephen, thanks for that. I was unaware GoFlight directly supported PMDG aircraft.

Thanks,

Here's how I set them up. I program them with HIDMacros and mounted them on each side of my yoke. The autopilot control is modeled after the one in the Skymaster. I could use the ones on my GoFlight autopilot, but for some reason I like it this way. My GoFlight stuff is so old, the LEDs don't register the proper headings, but the knobs work fine..

The GPS makes it so I dont have to squint at the sceen to operate it. The 'On/OFf" button is programmed to bring up the GPS panel.

It's really easy to do.

I'm using the GoFlight Interface Tool that can be found here: http://www.pollypot-software.org.uk/goflight-interface-tool.html

The tool is terse and not for the timid ... but is also very powerful.

I just purchased about $800 worth of GF modules a few days ago that I'm currently in the middle of programming to work with the CS 777.  Got a couple more P8's on the way also ... taking advantage of the 30% discount.

All in all I have about 15 GF products accumulated over the years, they all still work with 100% functionality.

Cheers, Rob.

I looked at the Toolkit, but even it can't seem to make my LEDs function. I had talked to a guy at GoFlight, and he said the stuff I have is too old and they don't support it anymore.

Oh, well....

I've been tempted to get GoFlight switches but I only fly GA.  LINDA lets you handle LVars and offsets and it would be great if I could get these to work the same way.

On the other hand, I bought the Citation X a few weeks ago.  I had an MFD freeze so I returned it (they have no fix) but another part of the decision to just give up is that I couldn't figure out how to program my hardware for it.  That aircraft is as non-standard as I've seen.  Does anybody know if Goflight stuff will work with it?  (And don't say keystrokes...I'm not doing keystrokes.)

Unfortunately, even with GoFlight Interface Tool there are some aircraft that just don't make the events or variables available ... meaning mouse click in VC only, no other option will work.  For example the CS 777 my GF-EFIS WXR button will not work ... I see the Lvars being triggered in the GF detective but sending those same Lvars does nothing in CS 777.  So it appears the programmers of the CS 777 just simply don't make any event/variable available for some functions.

It's a little odd since the EFIS mode (App, Vor, Map, Pln and Range 10,20,40, etc and even the Vor1, Adf1, Vor2, Adf2) all can be made to work with the GoFlight Interface Tool.

But sadly, as far as I can tell, we're still very much at the mercy of the Aircraft developers.

GoFlight actually provide an SDK for developers if they want to use it ... but it doesn't appear that many 3rd party aircraft developers do.

Cheers, Rob.

I used Fsuipc mouse macro's with the CX, every switch is able to be programmed with the macro's and my Goflight stuff

That's because he wants to sell you newer stuff, the modules have not changed over the years  other than they are now gray instead of black.

Built my own switch panel, USB interfaced by way of a Arduino Leonardo.  Will soon get PFC yoke/throttle/rudder as my Saitek fails.

So how far do we get with Goflight's own software?

Is it that limited?

I couldn't get any of them to work...tried and tried and tried.  Did you have the CX 2.0?

I don't have it but it sounds like does the same thing as LINDA which can do a lot...offsets and LVars.  If true, the only thing limiting is the aircraft...it needs to have a public set of LVars and/or offsets that you can read or write to and should also respond to FSX commands.  But if the developer didn't take that into account then there's not much that will work.  In my experience, every aircraft that I own works extremely well with LINDA (PMDG, RealAir, A2A, Flight1, Aerosoft and, to a lesser extent, Carenado) and I'd think they'd work the same with GoFlight's software.  I don't have any GoFlight stuff so I can't verify.
