When I'm actually flying as opposed to developing, my preferred aircraft is the Carenado 172N with the RealAir 172 flight dynamics and default 172SP panel. I fly this aircraft more than the A2A 182 and A2A Cherokee together! I think you can put this down to the fact that I'm always flying just for fun.

A2A GA is the best fun you can get.

I'm not having much fun flying with the A2A stuff because I'm always concerned about harming the engine! With the Carenado hybrid I can just enjoy the flight and not concern myself with following the real world scenario.

It's like driving the car, really. If you are hitting max rpm for a longer period of time, you will harm the engine. In all other scenarios, you are safe.

My top add-on aircraft would be the following:

 

PMDG NGX- worlds most popular commercial airliner finally modelled to top notch standards

 

A2A C172- Although i have a little less than 200 hrs on the S and N model in RL, A2A captures the C172 very well. 

 

Majestic Q400- i think every addon developer should be taking serious notes on how they made their flight dynamic, i think its the closest add-on that captures the real feeling of flying. I am eagerly waiting for their Dash 8-300, i jumpseat it regularly and would love to fly it in FSX. 

 

Aerosoft Twin Otter- I used this to help get myself familiar with system/cockpit procedures when i was training on it in RL. Very well done aside from the ground friction bug.

 

Flight1 Kingair 200 - Best kingair done to date, i just wish they made a non G1000 version (i havent checked out Milvis's B350, but looks promising) 

 

Flysimware C441- Now i havent purchased this aircraft but from the videos ive seen these guys modelled a Garret engine perfectly, i just wish they would step up their textures a bit more.

Do you guys not understand that any problem with these A2A add ons - either minor or major - is one click in the Maintenance Hangar from being corrected. No extra charge, no penalty, no foul.

It's not about one click complete overhaul after crash, or one click change of fuel filter, it's the fact that accu-sim will sooner or later make you to behave like in real life.

Each to their own guys.   People shouldn't have to qualify their preferences.  Sometimes people want fast access to simple 'up in the air planes' without damage and maintenance modelling.

Here is my list:

  1. Careened C337 - Not sure what it is with this plane, but I really like it
  2. PMDG 737 - No explanation needed
  3. Majestic Q400 - The new benchmark for immersive commercial airliners
  4. AXE - Fun every now and then
  5. A2A C172 - Never really enjoyed this plane that much. I am not sure why.
  6. Quality Wings ARJ - Fun besides user error with the autopilot

Not to hijack the thread, but I think it's pretty clear that most add on developers are really good now with graphics and FDE's...

 

What is SORELY lacking is damage and ware and tear. With very, very few exceptions, you can wide open throttle just about everything, overspeed it, over heat it, and pay no penalty.

 

 

"As real as it gets" was the motto after all. developers need to start adding maintenance and ware and tear to their aircraft. Ismail Güzel has done allot of work in this area for the

stock baron 58, and A2A on their AC, shows that it can be done well.

 

I think about all those folks flying the Carenado Malibu (piston) completely wrong, because the plane will not destroy itself like it would in RW with wide open throttle and props the entire time.

Even the mighty systems deep EagleSoft Citation X wont burn up it's engines (but it will complain at least).

 

This is the next level for developers to accel in.

"No Damage" is also one click away in the A2A Simulations. That equates to fast and simple up and away to me. You can even fly through the trees if you want to.

My favorite maintenance hangar is on the Dodosim 206 helicopter, even though it deals with only a very small set of possible damages to the engine and transmission.  You have to pay a virtual dollar amount for an inspection to a particular system, and then pay again to service, or to overhaul.  You can edit the text file that contains the virtual component cost so that it better reflects real world dollar costs.  For me, that very simple concept of not knowing what might be wrong, not seeing at one glance what maintenance dangers might be lurking, and trying to keep within a virtual budget of hourly operating costs, brings the feeling of personal ownership/responsibility alive in a way that I have not gotten from any other aircraft.  I believe that the Dodosim 206 came out before the 5 year cutoff for this poll of favorite aircraft, but otherwise, I would have named it as well.

Agreed.  Sometimes.  I'll be honest, there are times when I just want to fly.

 

However, getting punished for the abuse you may be inflicting or lack of attention you might be guilty of, that can be a fun option too. 

 

Speaking of, the new F-14 from Aerosoft will put you through the wringer if you don't treat it properly.   And we're not talking a visit to the maintenance hanger here, more like, a visit to your family from someone in a full dress uniform.
