December 5, 201411 yr I go back to my other comment.Does FTX Global look like FTX NW America? If so it is quite different than GEX and if that is the case it is a personal preference.I have both and enjoy the difference.I just go back and forth depending on the area I am flying. When FTX global lc is out I will look at that also.Isn't this what keeps us going here?I spend more time tweaking, solving problems and in the forums then actually flying anymore.Kind of like hitting the.good golf shot.Sorry,Digressing.Ron Bring back Chief Illiniwek!University of Illinois.
December 5, 201411 yr Does FTX Global look like FTX NW America? If so it is quite different than GEX and if that is the case it is a personal preference. You are mixing up products based on the names. FXT Global is better textures IMO than GEX. FTX NW America really doesn't come into play here. It is a different package all together.
December 5, 201411 yr Can global be disabled like FTX NW thru something like FTX Central?Thaks,Ron Bring back Chief Illiniwek!University of Illinois.
December 5, 201411 yr Can global be disabled like FTX NW thru something like FTX Central?Thaks,Ron No because it is not BGL based scenery, it is a texture replacement for the base sim textures. You cannot just switch, as there is nothing to switch to.
December 5, 201411 yr So,see if I have this right.FTX Global replaces GEX textures.Vector is similar to UTX?If I go with Global do I need Vector or can I just use my UTX products for their specific areas. If I want enhancements out of UTX areas I would want Vector? Thanks for the info and help.Ron Bring back Chief Illiniwek!University of Illinois.
December 5, 201411 yr I am curious, when someone says FTX Global is better than GEX, does this mean thatFTX "Loooks" better or FTX has a more "Accurate" representation of what the ground looks like? Marlon Carter - AVSIM Reviewer

It is textures. It replaces default or GEX textures. Vector and UTX(the vector data parts of UTX anyway) do the same thing. They provide vector data to the sim. So, roads, rivers, shorelines, etc. For enhancement out of UTX areas, you can make the textures look better by getting either FTX Global or GEX. They both will improve the textures and the overall look. It's personal preference here as to which is better. It's like two artists painting the same scene...each will use his own interpretation as to what is the most realistic. UTX has their opinion of the earth looks like and FTX has theirs. Which you like is up to you. I am curious, when someone says FTX Global is better than GEX, does this mean that FTX "Loooks" better or FTX has a more "Accurate" representation of what the ground looks like? It is their opinion that FTX Global looks better. They are just textures. So, there really isn't such thing as accurate. Where the textures are placed is based on land class values set for a given area but it won't be very accurate. The only way to see what is really there is to use photo real scenery. Land class based scenery and whatever textures you lay over the top of that can only come sort of close. So, if you want accurate, photo real is what you want. Though you lose autogen. If you want autogen and somewhat close to accurate, land class w/ FTX Global or GEX is what you want. FTX Vector and UTX will put vector data accurately(maybe not 100%?) where it is supposed to be at least though. So you will see roads and rivers and such where they would be in real life. They just won't be textured or colored like they would be in real life necessarily. Regards, Kevin LaMal "Facts Don't Care About Your Feelings" - Shapiro2024
December 5, 201411 yr I'm just trying to understand the reasons for why some are saying FTX Global or GEX is better than the other since they are both just textures. Some say FTX is a bit too much on the green side and this makes FSX look very nice but others say that GEX textures are closer to what you would expect to see in real life. While Photoreal is the ultimate in realism, it just doesn't look so great in FSX (IMO of course) Marlon Carter - AVSIM Reviewer

While Photoreal is the ultimate in realism, it just doesn't look so great in FSX (IMO of course) It's all personal preference really. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Then, of course like anything else, you get those people that think their opinions are indeed fact. After all, from their own perspective, it appears that way so it must be. But, in reality, anyone coming on here and saying one IS better than the other when it comes to this topic at least, is just saying their opinion. Nothing more, nothing less. It is pretty amazing how we can all get in an airplane and fly around and even though the world just IS. I mean, the world looks like the world looks. PERIOD. There is definitive, factual colors and such of each point on this earth. But, take 100 of us up in an airplane and we will all give you 100 different opinions as to what the real world looks like. When it comes to Orbx vs GEX vs default vs whatever, it's all just opinion because none if it IS exactly what the real world looks like. The only way you can get that is to get in a real plane. Even photo real textures aren't really truly right because everything changes w/ seasons and time. Photo real is correct 100% for that single moment in time. That's it. December 5, 201411 yr FTX Global is better because it covers the entire world. It's a better value than GSX. FTX Global, where I like to fly looks better than GSX. FTX Global is better because it comes with 3D night lighting. FTXG also comes with over 100 free upgraded AFCADs. FTX Vector is a better value. It covers the entire world and it's in constant development. Fimally, I want to support a dev that is also looking to the future by creating FSX and P3D v2 addons. MSFS
