December 4, 201411 yr Author And how is it "more customizable"? Both UTX USA 2.0 and FTX Global vector have very similar configuration programs. With UTX, you can customize absolutely every aspect of what is displayed. Color or roadways, widths, shoulders, no shoulders, encasements, no encasements, shorelines around lakes, major, minor, shorelines around rivers, major, minor, Actually anything that will be displayed, you have major input on. Vector as it is offered in v1.20 offers none of the above. Of course, that can change with revisions and updates. BTW, I just wanted to state, that I am not having a chew-down upon FTX Vector. My original thread intent, was to show that there is another choice for the user, even if he or she has gone full-force into the ORBX culture. Vector covers the world, while UTX products are 'focused and specific', but it is not necessary to have ONLY that product installed to use the fabulous FTX Global. With the patch just released for the use of UTX products with FTX Global, it (UTX(x) blends in beautifully now with the aforementioned. I personally have gone pretty much in the 'heavy' department with ORBX purchases, but still find you can branch off, and have other products that work nicely within that adopted 'culture'.
December 4, 201411 yr FSX (Pilot's) Vector 1.20 data is derived from the O.S.M open source database Think that Mitch corrected himself in another thread. But this statement is inaccurate for NA. Here is a thread from John Venema indicating what source data is being used for FTX Global Vector: http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/75994-vector-v12-massive-improvement-to-na-heres-a-preview/ Now I can't say with certainty what road data is being used in NA urban areas by Vector, but the most accurate source datasets are from ARCGIS geodatabases developed by each state and province. The two federal governments then compile this information in a consistent fashion for each country respectively. These GIS datasets are available to anyone. If I had to speculate as to which add-on's road vector coverage was better, I would guess that UTX's is better, just because companies like Tom Tom and Garmin get feedback from mobile GPS users as to discrepancies and changes to the road network.
December 4, 201411 yr Been following this with great interest.I am currently using GEX and Utx latest versions.I use FTX all their NW areas.Looking at Ftx Global and Vector.Am I correct that you use gex/utx OR Global/vector?Thanks Bring back Chief Illiniwek!University of Illinois.
December 4, 201411 yr You can use UTX with Global and/or Vector but GEX could only be used with Vector and not Global, as they do the same thing but with different textures that can't coexist. Mike Mann

Think that Mitch corrected himself in another thread. I stand corrected on the data set source for Vector 1.20 in N.A. Other than O.S.M.
December 4, 201411 yr Here is a thread from John Venema indicating what source data is being used for FTX Global Vector: He say's that they used GeoBase NHN data for Canada; if this is correct then the vector data should look the same for both Vector 1.2 and FTX PNW (since they both use the same data source). I can assure you that they absolutely don't look the same. As one example; just look at the coastline just south of Courtenay Airpark (CAH3) and you can immediately see the mess that Vector 1.2 made of this area! Mike Mann
December 4, 201411 yr Author IMPORTANT PATCH...for UTX/GLOBAL users: At the bottom of this download page, is a link to download and install the UTX textures compatibility patch for those using a UTX product with FTX Global. This is highly recommended: There is also an Industrial land-class texture patch that is also, highly recommended: Update all your UTX products while you are at it! --------------------------------------------------------- http://www.scenerysolutions.com/download.php?id=2
December 4, 201411 yr How do you know that it is more accurate? LOL, they don't! They just read stuff, see that it is newer and automatically conclude things!! No side by side comparisons or anything like that!! I still have UTX USA 1.0 installed in FSX and the only major advantage that I can see is that some coastlines and beaches are represented better than in Vector on Now you've done it!! You bursted the bubble!!!
December 5, 201411 yr I still have UTX USA 1.0 installed in FSX and the only major advantage that I can see is that some coastlines and beaches are represented better than in Vector on (which I have installed on P3d). The OP is referring to UTX 2, not UTX 1. But if even UTX 1 is better than Vector in some aspects, maybe UTX 2 is better still? However, I would love to see some side-by-side comparisons like Jim has suggested. Regards, Sascha Sascha Rieger | EVO Developer What is EVO • How to get Evo 2016 • FS9 Evolution Forum
December 5, 201411 yr This thread has piqued my interest. I have FTX Global but no vector program (yet)
December 5, 201411 yr I am a big fan of Nick N. and GEX.He has given me and a lot of FS people support over the past years. As I remember he was upset because FTX Global had no way to uninstall if you did not like it after overwriting GEX textures. This was awhile back and I only follow this stuff during the winter months. So I do not know if this was or still is true.I have GEX/UTx but I would be willing to, maybe try Global and compare. It seems you have to use one or the other, correct?I enjoy FTX NW America products but I also enjoy the difference with GEX/UTX in other areas.Just input from a guy who has been doing this from about 1980.I am not an expert by any means, just an avid enjoyer of the hobby.I hope I am not "opening a can of worms here".That is not my intention.Just trying to figure out FTX Global/Vector or GEX etc.Probably just personal preference bottom line.Ron Bring back Chief Illiniwek!University of Illinois.

I can say this, I had to slap myself a few times , mainly because I didn't install it earlier..its that good ZORAN

I can say this, I had to slap myself a few times , mainly because I didn't install it earlier..its that good I've had GEX since it's release for North America. Are you saying that Global Vector improves GEX? I thought Vector was for FTX Global only. If it works with GEX, can you comment about how it impacted your sims frame rate performance? Curt Branch
December 5, 201411 yr I wasn't clear enough it should have read FTX Global and Vector I disabled GEX. However I believe Vector can run with GEX but really FTX Global us so so much better than GEX . ZORAN
