FTX Norway Released

The price increase is due to the increased effort of upgrading all the airports in the area. Considering the airports look even better now (at least from what I've seen in screenshots) and that there are lots of photoreal cities, I'd say the price increase is logical.

From what I read over at the forum, the increased cost to us is to cover the increases in the prices of the data-sets that get used to develop these regions.

  • Thanks for the positive feedback on Norway!   The GTAV video is pretty, but let's put things into context: GTAV is the most expensive video game ever made in history, with a budget of $250 million a

  • Norway is a feast for the eyes, that's for sure. As for motorcycles, they fly too low for my taste

They are very nice no doubt about it, but they are so heavy on VAS.  I have the England and Wales scenery, i has to remove them, i couldn't fly for more than about 1 hr (A2A 172) without the VAS warning starting.

I have the same problem in some areas, usually around detailed airports though.  It'll be interesting to see if OOM becomes problematic for those using payware airports inside of Norway.

Okaaaay, I bought it!  I saved the moeny for iFly 747 V2 but since I'm flying C182 the most lately, this was an obvious choice lol.

So far so good. It is very detailed, all airports are overhauled, lot of bridges, lighthouses, etc. Only thing I don't like is how they have done Bergen. Looking at google earth and at top down view of the city, it's quite different. I guess there will be some hit and miss, but to miss the whole part of the city is, well, unnacceptable for the FTX region.

And yeah, check some of my screens from last night exploration.

I dont get it. I happily fly around FTX England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland and now Norway in the A2A 182 and have not had a single VAS warning, ever.

I do however, only use the default LOD radius of 4.5, autogen is set at 'very dense' and I only use 1024 textures.

That is the key! I'm also using these settings and never had a single VAS warning, even in FTX areas. Just use settings that are safe, or in other words - settings that are designed to work with FSX without issues.

Agree! I will add that keeping visibility set to 60 also helps eliminate OOM errors.

Interesting, i run a LOD of 3.5, autogen at dense but use the 4096 textures.

4096 textures are of least importance to me personally. The sim was never designed to take them and clouds at that resolution are just a massive drain on performance.

I would give up the texture resolution long before I would give up LOD and autogen density. Still, that's my personal preference of course.

Yeah...but using the REX Textures i have them at minimum (512 i think), i only use 4096 because PMDG cockpits use them and at 1024 they look grainy

Sounds great but I can buy 2 regions or a few airports during the sale for fifty and cant see the point in jumping in when Im no where near close to exploring what I have now.

However I am grateful that these guys keep creating the magic

Haha, what perfect timing. I literally just yesterday got back from a trip to Tromso and Oslo, to see this news.

Exactly the same here - HD textures aren't really an option if you have a 'not particularly fantastic' GPU card. But to be honest, I'm not actually that keen on the 'HD look' (yes it is just another look), and tend to prefer standard texture definitions levels.

Our eyes are 'analogue' and don't necessarily see things in 'high def'.    I know my eyesight is defintely 'standard definition'   .... with motion blur and some smudging effects included.

The shots look very nice of course, though I hope they release an "Oslo cityscape" or something, 'cause downtown Oslo doesn't appear to have the main big buildings modeled.

I was going to start a thread about Norway Freeware vs FTX Norway.

Any comments from those who upgraded from the freeware version.

I installed the Norway Freeware scenery after a recent holiday to the country - the reproduction and accuracy is unbelievable, once you download the several large files and follow the instructions for installation you are rewarded with an accurate rendition that is enhanced with the included mesh files. All this and it's free. There is also a freeware Demark which joins the two countries flawlessly.

Don't have the FTX version but it would have to be exceptional to beat the Freeware version.
