December 17, 201411 yr I have to admit, I have never really understood the best way to setup Steve's DX10 Fixer despite having read the manual when it first came out. With the release of version 2.6, I took the time to go through the manual step by step and setup Nvidia Inspector, FSX and the Fixer to best suit my current sim setup (i.e. the addons I have like Orbx, etc.). First of all I realized that my NI settings, which were up to date based on the latest "How To" document that I downloaded from the DX10 subforum at SimOuthouse, was quite different to the recommendations from Steve. I have adjusted them according to Steve's recommendations with the exception of going with 8xSGSS vs. the 4xSGSS in the manual's example. After going through everything, I fired up my sim with FSDT Vancouver, Orbx scenery and the PMDG777. ...I was absolutely shocked.... - The sim was first of all exhibiting higher framerates than I had previously. A nice surprise. - Shimmering.....gone. - AA......beautiful. - Lighting, shading, water, clouds. All excellent in terms of visual quality. Any issues: - Bloom lights on AI planes are a bit big....I need to check my settings. - ORBX street lights are also a bit big, again I need to double check my settings and experiment with an adjustment. So I guess my advice is to set aside 45 minutes, work your way slowly through the manual and enjoy the results. Hopefully you all have the same great results I have seen. p.s. I will take some screenshots and post my settings, although I think you need to setup based on your specific sim rather than copy what I have. Mark CYYZ
December 17, 201411 yr I fully agree with you, as I also use 8xSGSS, that not necessary kills FPS all the time. And it looks very good! It is my impression that quite a few don't have the patience to set up DX10 properly, and then jump into P3D.. BR Anders
December 17, 201411 yr Author Here are my settings for NI and the Fixer. Note that my updated computer specs are in my profile. Nvidia Inspector the Fixer (note Shadow Version should be #6...there is an typo in the manual) Mark CYYZ
December 18, 201411 yr Thanks, Gonna try it out. I still am still at 344.65 and 2.5. Michael Moe Michael Moe

BR Anders found 8xsgss tough on frames when in clouds, especiallly with ASN and enhanced overcast active ; 4xsgss was better overall - however running a 670here
December 18, 201411 yr Author I have recently upgraded to a 970 so 8xSGSS is less of an issue. Mark CYYZ
December 18, 201411 yr I have recently upgraded to a 970 so 8xSGSS is less of an issue. Good to hear that the i5/GTX970 can deal with 8xSGSS, as I'm split with myself if I should take the 970 or 980 in my next hardware upgrade. What resolution is your monitor? BR Anders

I actually run two monitors off this card, one is the main FS VC screen and the second are 2D popups like the FMC, Radios, FS2Crew, etc. Mark CYYZ
December 18, 201411 yr Thanks for taking the time to post your settings Mark. I am using DSR and find it makes the terrain much more crisp with settings that I got from Julian Evans a.k.a. Badfinger but your DX10 Fixer settings have made a difference. All the best, Robert \Robert Hamlich/
December 19, 201411 yr Author I have tried DSR but I really could not see any difference and actually thought it was less crisp. My guess is that I did not set it up properly and probably should try again. I just installed the update to the Aerosoft airbus and on my test flight was really amazed at how nice everything looked, and good frames as well. I think it might be the 4x AA settings and should probably try 8 to see what the difference will be. Mark CYYZ
December 20, 201411 yr Author I would have to think it has nothing with 2.6 and something else is going on. Maybe try deleting your shader folders and re-installing the shaders. Mark CYYZ
December 20, 201411 yr Mark, thankyou for your suggestion but I haven't altered anything I'm still using 'Steve's HD' profile. Dave Taylor
December 20, 201411 yr Okay, I sussed it out now, thanks to you Mark. The EZYDOK option wasn't ticked. Dave Taylor
January 5, 201511 yr Hi, could you explain what are following options: - Check Shader Size - Test Feature Manual says not much about these options... by default they are unchecked, but, Mark, you have check them - why? Lukasz Trzaskowski
