  1. Wonder if this will be a shared flightdeck is included or an EFB? -rcladin
  2. Or gullible... hook, line and sinker right here. One born every minute springs to mind.
  3. Release a few months ago LOL, its' been in development now for over 6years. That's gotta be at least twice as long as the development cycle of the average PMDG airplane I'll await feedback from others on VAS perf. when it's released for P3D and consider purchase then.
  4. I would most agree with this comment from Mephic (Tomasz) I have respect for this developer but it certainly also reminds me of the concorde debacle with P3D when they quickly changed their 1080p status and no higher resolution because of the VAS problems Quite simply when Lefteris says: "We feel that there are still some problems with the current version of P3D that is available and that until the good people at LM have had a chance to resolve those, we are hesitant to release a product only to start receiving complaints for situations which are not quite caused by our software" The truth is: "We feel that there are some significant VAS problems with the current version of our A320 in P3D and until I've had a chance to resolve those, we are hesitant to release a product only to start receiving complaints for situations which are quite literally caused by our software" They either need to cut their cloth better for a 32bit app as it stands or code it better. Just like dare i say it, PMDG. -rcladin
  5. Building shadows are hard on the GPU, but in terms of fps you are talking about items that have a dramatic effect on the CPU only unless the GPU is already overloaded. I would have to say Building Autogen is very hard on CPU, i run that at sparse for Jet flying and normal for G.A. It is a folly to place a better GPU in your system and expect more fps, given the current status of the simulation software, the cpu speed reflects mostly in the fps, adding a new/better gpu gives you more chance of adding additional eye candy or better AA for no effect on fps
  6. Wow, not really sure what settings you run in UT2, but i run the following for about 2 or 3% drop in FPS Weekly @ 50% (larger jet/prop etc) Daily @ NIL (small ga etc) enable jetways off I have managed to AM UT2Services.exe to cores away from my main P3D threads, which helps a little, if i don't do this i get about 10% drop in FPS for those settings. All i do is run a little batch file, soon as the sim is loading up i run my batch as follows: cmd.exe /c start "UT2Services" /affinity 50 "I:\Prepar3Dv3\Flight One Software\Ultimate Traffic 2\UT2Services.exe" 50 is just a bit of random HEX to get it off Core 0 & 1 where my P3D is doing most of its work. Looking at UT2Service.exe in process explorer, its sits there idle for about 60 or 90 secs, then there's an injection of something/data etc and it gobbles about 12 or 15% of CPU for about 2-3 secs then back to idle, so i think it might be wise to get that off of the main rendering thread.
  7. Adding a better GPU won't give you more frames unless you're previous GPU was saturated with load. Typically you'll just be able to run more eye candy, like better AA or turning water or shadows up some more, you should be able to get a decent boost on GPU specific tasks that P3D does, but you're overall fps will be the same. if you want fps boost, then improve the cpu where possible is the most direct approach, overclock it etc if you haven't already.
  8. G-sync, isn't great in the 30-40fps i find, it works great 60-100 and okay 40-60, I'd reckon, with a 2600K you'll struggle to get the frames you need to make 777 shine efficienty on g-sync
  9. UT2 works okay here too, but i dont get the UT2 menu in the add-on's pull down so i can't control stuff that way, i.e. CTRL-SHIRT-R etc I was wondering if anyone had any idea how to achieve the following: Apply an affinity mask to UT2 - so you can control which cores/LP it runs on? Also any idea if it's possible to ensure that all AI is static? for example if you sim on vatsim and don't want the conflicts of real traffic and AI, but you would like to still see the AI scattered around the apron but ensure it's not going to move?
  10. Kevin, You need to get the latest version of Nvidia inspector, download and check it out. I too didn't see those G-sync items listed in NVI, yes they are in the Nvidia Control Panel but when i got the latest inspector they are there. Interestingly for me, they say exactly what is in the control panel i.e. full and window There appears to be 2 categories in the NVI setting, both of mine where set to fullscreen and windowed, so no mismatch for me.
  11. Ben, yes agree, could be worth waiting for the 10nan litho goodness of cannonlake, hex/octa may become mainstream but it might be 2 years away, by then of course P3D will be 64bit DX12 and Nvidia will have the 1280Ti for sure ..... also be running 4K Rifts by then anyway
  12. Ben, thanks - best way of course is to sit in front of a Gsync monitor and try it yourself, otherwise i'd recommend set your monitor to 60hz and check out one of the youtube comparisons of 30vs60hz, its not quite the same thing of course but will give you a feel or the kind of fluidity you might expect with unlimited frames and gsync vs 30hz clamp. good example here: make sure you run 1080p60 in the comparison and 60hz setting on monitor. If you define smoothness as consistent frames, say 30hz i.e. 33.3ms per image then yes 30hz is a good idea as this means with modern tech you'll likely get 99.9% of your flight >30fps and not notice any stutter / long frame and it will all seem smooth. For me, i couldn't see the point of throttling my 980Ti with G-sync to output 30hz to get a consistent 33.3ms, when my system can easily get between 10 and 20m/s per frame 99% of time, i.e. over an average flight scenario. Personally i prefer to suffer the odd long frame / stutter to throttling at 30hz for 100% of my flight Gsync works great when you can push at least 60-100 fps at it, between 40-60 is okay, but <40 is not great. The problem of course when i open up the NGX at FT YSSY with weather, Vatsim etc etc, i can get 45-50 fps in the VC, until i take off and get higher frames away from scenery. Dash8 much higher frames 60-70 on ground, 80-100 in cruise in VC. I have also tried FFTF = 0.1 or 0.2 and get a few extra frames, but it can give some blurries which ruins it. I've also tried reducing cloud layers and range in AS16, as ASN/AS16 can reduce frames by 10-20% typically, depending on weather of course. Perhaps KabyLake & a 1080 Ti? next year will get me to a min of 60fps in all situations. cheers Steve thanks i wouldn't have thought of that, but I don't think this is how Gsync works, I would simply never want to lock to 36 for any reason whatsoever. I'm looking for frames and fluidity in my sim, i don't mind a variable fill rate as long at it's got reclining leather seats, goes really fast and gives shi**y gas mileage. lol cheers and thanks for the work over on the AM thread there, great stuff mate
  13. Hi there P3D simmers, I'm looking to get as many frames as possible in P3D as i really enjoy 60-100 fps in the VC when using G-sync, but it's not always possible. do you have any suggestions: for example I run 6700K@4.7ghz, GTX 980 Ti overclocked, 16GB RAM 3200mhz, Native 1440p res G-Sync monitor @ 144hz. I sim, P3D with PMDG/Majestic/A2A, AS16+ASCA, UT2 (modelmatch only - no AI), Vatsim traffic via Vpilot (a must), EZCA, FTX, Glob/LC/regions/Vector etc plethora of add-on sceneries etc etc, all the common stuff. I use myself the following strategies to keep frames as high as possible Use MSI afterburner to always check GPU% and keep below 100% AM 253 for P3D - quick loading & Core 0 for P3D only Offload addon's for P3D to batch with HEX A0 for avoiding Core 0 Run unlimited and V-Sync /Triple buffer off (G-Sync Monitor) Nvidia Panel - Enhance AA, Prefer max frames, Single Monitor Pref etc Scenery Complex - Normal. Building Autogen - Sparse (really helps with frames) Vegetation Autogen - Sparse ASN/AS16 - no enhanced overcast, 5 layers - 90mile range No Road/Boats/AI traffic - just vatsim Water - medium Shadows - High, want building shadows for realism. 4xMSAA, 8xAF, no FXAA Do you have any suggestions of tweaks or even items in your opinion that weigh heavily on fps, that i might not have thought of? i'm interested in getting a 7700K Q1 next year and expect a 10-15% boost over my 6700K assuming i can overclock it similarly. thanks for any feedback -rcladin
  14. If you are looking for immersion then go VR, it's absolutely incredible for flight simulation. The feeling of being there cannot come close with 65inch 4K TV or 3x24inch letter box effect. Flying around it feels so real, so much more believable and actually easier to fly / land well. The 'presence' you get cannot be described, i find my jaw dropping to the floor time and again. If you have a modern computers its pretty easy to get the fps you need, flyinside/pd3 version has the ability to use a tech that gives pretty robust 90fps solid, moving your head around feels lightning responsive and fast no real slowdown to speak. Have said that, obviously there are drawbacks and issues, the main one being resolution. I have CV1 Oculus Rift which i understand is 2x1200p, but because your eyes are extemely close to the screens you need a very very high res to get anywhere near comparison to today's monitors offering 4K or 1440p resolution. So you have to accept the fact that the graphics will be somewhat low res / blocky, you can always zoom at the click of a button if you need the details, but don't let that put you off, at least not until you have tried it. The other draw back is field of view, i think the default is about 110degrees, but flyinside can increase this to about 140degrees, however obviously the human eye can go 160-170degrees, so you do get a slight binocular effect, but it's not a major drawback. I would reckon if we can see 4K or 2400p resolution with the next VR generation, that will be awesome graphical quality too, but yes i expect that will take another couple of years at least. Invest in VR if you want an immersive experience, however i'd still think you'll be flying using a regular monitor too, having VR is great, but you don't always want to fly using it, sometimes, it's great also just to go back to my default 1440p G-sync 27inch ACER monitor too.
  15. I simply never use ftx central and never have a problem, just keep all my scenery layers in the same order, i never understood the reason for using that tool, i prefer to manually control my scenery with scenery config editor tool
  16. Pete, thanks for your wonderful program, i wanted to follow up on this and ask one other question Is this option in the release version yet, i.e. setting the affinity mask in the run programs bit in the ini file, i think i would find that very useful, as i manually run batch files at the moment to start EZCA & ASN etc etc after P3D has started. My other query is just to ask and hope that you are putting some time/effort into a succession plan for fsuipc when you retire?
  17. Agree with Rob on this, cannot see much improvement at all using SGSS AA anymore, MSAA in P3D dialog doing a great job in V3.2 Use your own judgement and eye's but i waiting to test with clouds in ASN to see for sure, looks like the nail in the SGSS coffin, thank goodness. Thanks Rob & LM - great job
  18. I use this and found it works really well, I found by having water set to ULTRA it doesn't work, i.e. i cannot display the riva tuner particulars, i think it might be a conflict when P3D uses CUDA on ULTRA setting, if you use ULTRA water turn it down and try again.
  19. This is certainly incorrect, else none would be able to run anything in fsx/p3d @ 4k resolution. My own testing (p3d v3.1) showed a 5% increase (150MB) in VAS when moving from 1080p to 1440p, so this is not the problem When a set of paired down settings, no weather or Ai active opens up at 89% (1080p) or 94% (1440p) of the VAS red-line (4GB) - its all over. i appreciate your comment, but don't agree the problem is because of higher res.
  20. My thread about VAS problems and requesting a refund was deleted also. i've been informed by email that i've been refunded a couple of days ago, but nothing has shown up on my credit card, but i'll wait a few more business days before i get back onto support, as i understand it might take a little while to come through. When a company filters their forums to remove the 'noise', then Caveat Emptor IMO -rcladin
  21. Guys, thanks for the help this was annoying problem 1: flashing when moving between vc views in ezdok solution : in camera.cfg change hotkeyselect=1 to hotkeyselect=0 this rids of flashing - great problem 2: cannot get back to VC after external view unless i right click cockpit> ezca vc view solution: in controls setup the starting camera (shortcut) to F9 and bind F9 to a key on your joystick using fsuipc or whatever bam - all sorted, works just like it does in fsx now no more flashing and can easily switch from external to VC views by clicking that button i had to use the option called starting camera (shortcut) and not the virtual cockpit (shortcut) as that didn't work for me, i.e. binding a key to virtual cockpit (shortcut) did nothing for me. running p3d V3.1 cheers
  22. I was talking about smoothness or fluidity in frames linked to hz and fps, consistency and low variance is part of it too. Attaining 60hz is a different matter, yes its difficult - but I think 60hz is attainable on modern computers, you just need to tweak i run p3d with all the typical/usual high end addons, i.e. pmdg, asn (enhanced overcast, 5layers etc), rex4, orbx (global/regions/vector etc), flytampa, ut2, 1440p res. on a 6700k skylake @4.7Ghz & 980Ti @1,430Mhz etc etc, you will not always guarantee 60hz 100% of the time, but i can damn guarantee 90 or 95% of the time i'll get >60hz and will live with the times when i'm short of 60hz, especially with G-sync as it works pretty well down to 40hz, i'm probably 99.5% of my flight >40hz typically. i can sometimes get 70 or 80fps in the ngx VC in cruise for example and 150fps in a flyby, not sure why i'd ever want to fix at 30hz, my gpu would be idling for 95% of the time wont shamelessly plug here - let me know if you want a pm with a link to one of my 60hz vids
  23. Yes agree, so with all else being equal, and in both cases with a variance of zero m/s between frames. 60hz will have 2x the fill of 30hz and thus when panning around in the VC will be inherently 'smoother'.
  24. This is simply incorrect. consider the following case all else being equal: picture a pmdg vc position as example sim 1 set 30hz and consistently maintain those fps and pan around cockpit. sim 2 set 60hz and consistently maintain those fps and pan around cockpit. Sim 2 is inherently more smooth, due to the 16 or 17 ms refresh compared to the 33sec refresh. if you equate smooth to mean consistency in frames, then the options above are equally smooth but option 2 is harder to achieve in reality as it more demanding on cpu/gpu maybe i should say option 2 is more immersive and more visually appealing/realistic with it's higher refresh rather than more smooth. fps/hz and smoothness is ABSOLUTELY linked. ** Agree 30hz is like tech from the dark ages, look at VR coming soon looking for 90hz. In my case, with my current computer 6700K @ 4.7Ghz and 980Ti, - I can tweak P3D to give me a solid 60hz for typically 90-95% of my whole flight, i will always get the occasional stutter here and there when the workload is massive, but i'm happy and will live with that, typically i'll use G-sync and unlimited frames on 144hz panel 1440p. When recording for youtube @60hz quite happy to set refresh @60hz and v-sync triple buffer on clipping your refresh at the lowest you can achieve for 99.9% of your flight (e.g. 30hz) is a real waste of resources in my opinion, especially on today's computers
  25. If you are using a 60hz panel, that would explain the jerky/stutter behaviour, especially in the VC getting 35-40fps, outside view you are likely around the 60mark. as a test try reducing sliders until you can get 60fps in vc - turn off weather/ai, go to a light airport etc and try your horizontal panning, if you can get over 60 in the vc then turn on v-sync & triple buffer & test again. good luck -rc
