7 Hours with P3D V2 and still Microstutters

Let's not forget that stutters are in the eye of the beholder.

That is an extremely wise statement. It would really help if the OP could elaborate a bit on when, how and possibly what type of stutters he's getting.

On my system, for example, the ONLY time I can perceive what I would call stutters is if I go into spot view and look very closely at the scenery moving by. Every now and then I get a slight hesitation. Now, since I don't generally fly in spot view, it may be stuttering but I never see it.

If you visually get hesitations looking forward from the cockpit - that is another matter.

As for the Aerosoft Airbus in P3D, if you don't have FSX installed on the same PC you need to download and install the Microsoft Simconnect .msi files....available in the Aerosoft forums. I reduced my P3D stutters by playing around with Affinity Mask values in the P3D.cfg file.

the only way for me is default aircraft; any great looking and fully equipped ac and I get stutters as a bonus.

all sliders to the left is a no go for me. I need the full visual experience to get immersed (orbx).

Thanks for all the replies guys,

I really do appreciate your help. The stutters I was experiencing were from the cockpit either looking forward, left or right.

I do have some good news ..... I went away from the sim last night for around an hour to clear my head. I had seen improvement after playing around with the config file and turning vsync off and setting frames to unlimited. I wondered what would happen if I deleted the config file and started with no tweaks then turn off vsync and set frames to unlimited. Low and behold things seemed better straight away. I then started pushing all the sliders to the right and still got great results.

It would appear that I was thrown a red herring at first, P3d was set to run with frames fixed at 20 so I assumed like FSX Vsync should be used with locked frames at 30. That's where I started then of course when I got stutters I read through some posts and so the config tweaking started !! I have no idea why P3d on my system has to run this way. You gotta love our hobby.

It was quite late when I called it a night but I was happy with the result I achieved so now once I get a bit more time I will experiment with the display settings to get a good balance on my system.

I did get Rex 4 textures loaded OK but cannot for the life of me get either the new Airbus series or the Majestic Dash 8 working. Hopefully someone on their forums can help me. Maybe I should grab a new hard drive and do a fresh Windows install and P3d. That's a job for another day though.

Just out of interest are there any config tweaks that should be added?

I do hope I can get the addons fixed quickly so I have a fair chance to evaluate this platform

Regards

Richard

Getting a flightsim smooth is like building a massive house of cards. Or so it feels.

nice to be part of a niche market eh? ;)

Imagine having to tweak and tinker and revert to older divers and what not with games like crysis etc ;) There'd be riots!

LM is doing a nice job, but the state of civilian flightsims in 2015 is well below par imho.

A great many people, myself included, run with only FFTF=0.01 or 0.10 and no other "tweaks" other than TBM=160.

These are my current settings -

Vic

Thanks Vic.

I am going to have a play with various settings to see what works.

Another real headache right now is the following

Airbus A318,319,320 & 321 - Not working

Dash 8Q400 - Not working

ASN - Cannot connect from networked PC

I am getting support from Majestic & ASN but nothing for 2 days from Aerosoft. Pretty poor show there I am afraid

I thought FSX was challenging to get running !!

Not sure why you are having difficulty.... Both aerosoft and majestic provide installs compatible with p3dv2...best results when using there latest versions of course....

Neither am I,

It's been painful so far. I have just uninstalled P3D from my G: drive and am going to reinstall on my C: drive and see what happens

Just as a reference, do you also have fsx installed on this system?  If not, I'm wondering if you might be missing some component like simconnect....

http://www.prepar3d.com/support/sdk/

I did try all the simconnect files again,

I did a quick test last night and installed P3D on a Win 8 laptop that has never had FSX on it. Low  and behold I loaded up the Airbus without any issues.

I guess there must be something corrupt on my PC even though FSX runs flawlessly.

I do have several images I made over the last few months. I constantly backup so I may try rolling back to one of those. Alternatively I may pickup another drive to throw in and do a fresh windows install with P3D to test the platform.

Thanks for your help,

i cant explain why but i have absolut no stutter in P3D2.4 even with heavies like the 737 or Dash8 .

I am using unlimited FPS and NO FPS limiter in PrecisionX which makes me undock FMC (vrinsight CDUII) and PFD,ND to 2 other screens with a loss of only 2-3 fps .

I am using driver 344.11

Well I did a clean Windows 8.1 install along with all the updates then installed P3D, Rex4, FTX Global & ASN on my networked PC. I got the airbus & Dash 8 working. The problem was previously that although I had the simconnect.cfg in My Documents I realized there was no simconnect.xml in the relevant P3D folder. This was causing issues with ASN, Airbus & Dash 8.

So now these are the addons I plan on using for now, I did my initial setup with the stock Baron and got pretty nice results. Sadly to say the airbus & dash 8 is not so nice. With either of these the micro stutters are back. I have played with all the settings but don't seem to be able to find the sweet spot.

I reverted to a backup I had of FSX with DX10 and I have to say it is such a different result. I can be flying straight or banking and the sim is silky smooth. I have the Airbus, NGX & 777 which are all pretty tough on the system but with all the addons FSX still seems to have the edge for me.

Not sure what else to do right now, I really don't want to get to the point where I am tweaking more than flying which was the way P3D was going. I think I may get a refund and just watch the forums until some progress is made, It would appear I am not the only one suffering the dreaded microstutters

I believe this is the automatic fsx.cfg tweaking tool which is somewhat of an old tool. In answer to your question I haven't

I did just read a long thread on microstutters with P3D and it appears that although full screen looks to be possible it is not really running in full screen and thus is why the 1/2 refresh rate trick that works so well in FSX doesn't work in P3D.

Maybe I am being too critical but like I said I have been spoiled with such a smooth FSX experience. Maybe now isn't the right time for P3D for me.
