Ultimate Terrain: USA is out???!!??

Featured Replies

One question. I am using FS Genesis Landclass. I noticed that UT:USA has its own landclass. Do you think I should uninstall or will UT:USA overwrite? Which landclass is better at the end of the day? Thanks,Mike T.

The included landclass in UT is only for towns and cities. Justin and Allen are working on a way for us to use both, so we can get Justins' landclass in rural areas where it will be the most effective. They should have something for us in the next few days. For now, I am leaving my UT priority higher than the FSGenesis.Tony

Could someone who's got it installed show a night shot over Jacksonville, FL please? (KJAX)Thanks!Eric

I have FSGlobal2005 installed...can someone explain how these 2 Programs mix up ?thanks

Regarding the FREEflow stuff, there is no decision to be made: If you own UTUSA, don't use FREEflow New England - UTUSA is better, in general. Regarding Florida, there's a lot to that package besides the water, and in some cases (such as the canal system of southern Florida) more detailed. I'll be working this week to release a compatible version of FREEflow Ultimate Florida which will work with UTUSA and be a very valuable enhancement!Best,sg

Just a word about compatibility:This type of scenery brings real-world accuracy of roads, cities, and water features to FS9. It corrects the inaccuracies inherent to MS default scenery, which I know from our experience with Florida, can be off by over a mile. That said, most of FS9's default airports are very close to their real-world locations. So while any scenery addon based on the inaccurate default MS scenery has the potential to be mislocated with reference to the correct geography, many if not most addons will work just fine. But *NOT* using an addon such as UTUSA because it reveals the errors in other sceneries is a bit backward - like rejecting evolution. It's a progression that is inevitably going to be a feature of the default - MS won't ignore the fact that their stuff is "off". It's going to be a necessity that the addon developers come out with real-world accurate versions of their addons, and with products such as UTUSA, that will have to happen sooner rather than later.Just an opinion.Best,sg

What are the recommended settings for UTUSA? I took a flight last night that had an arrival at KORD. As I approched Chicago, my frame settings drop into a frame rate range between 8 and 12, I also had some form of graphics washout.I saved the flight and this morning I adjusted a couple of my sliders, lowering traffic, sight distance, cloud draw, and filtering. I also lowered, at the system level, anti-aliasing to 2X. I never set anti-aliasing within the game. After making the adjustments, my frame rates returned into the 16-23 range, but I still had lon periods of washout. After a few moments of the washout, my video returns to its normal mode of operation.Any ideas?Tom2.4 Ghz, 128 video board, 512M of RAM, XP

Tom,Noticed you are using a 2.4ghz machine. I have a dell 8250 P4-2.4Ghz, 768M ram with 5900xt 128mb. Would like your impressions on fps after you installed USA. It sounds like some tweaks you have already done have gotten you back to double digit fps. This add on looks very inviting but always a little leary with a 2.4ghz procssor. I also use UT, FE, and can remian in double digits fps depending on which payware aircraft, clouds, and scenery.I recently went from 512m RDram to 768mb ram and it really helped with texture delays and stuttering. This might help your texture problem; however,IMO you will not see any change in fps.Regards,Carl

Not sure what fps has to do with this product. The **only** feature of this product that in my opinion does have impact on performance is night lighting. You may experience however sligtly longer load times and a bit more stutter. But with my Athlon 3500 I hardly can detect any extra stutter.Michael J.

Here is what I have done so far in looking at the problem. I searched and read a number of the blurry ground texture posts located in the avsim forums. Lots of good data and tips can be found within the posts. I also revisted and read the FAQ section of the UTUSA manual. Also, sometime back, I received a "free" copy of MegaScenery-New York through a subscription update. I didn't care for the program and have long since removed it from my hard drive. The program came with a short manual that provides a good section on system performance. Within the manual the author provided tips on the updating of the FS9 configuation file and recommendations for display settings within the the game. I implemented a couple of the authors tips along with some of the ideas from the forums. In addition I also:1. Reduced Terrain Mesh Complexity (80)2. Reduced Autogen Density Normal/Dense)3. Reduced Special Effects Detail (Mid Point)4. Turned off Extended Terrain Textures5. Reduced Sight Distance and Cloud Draw Distance (60/40 miles)6. Reset Filtering to Bilinear7. Adjusted Anti-Aliasing at the Computer System Level.7. Defraged my hard drive. UTUSA installs a large number of files and it took almost 30 minutes to defrag. Loading the game without activating FSAutostart I was able to obtain frame rate between 20-24 in the Seattle area. Later tonight, I'll try Chicago again. Part of my problem last night could of been related to flying into Chicago at dusk with my display settings way to high for the complexity of the UTUSA addon.Tom

Pete... thanks so much lad! Great. Im downloading now!Eric

Hi Tom.With 512Mb of memory, you may be running low on memory. Run Task Manager along with the sim, and see if your system has this problem.Dick
