June 1, 201511 yr Just ordered the EVGA GTX 980 Ti Superclocked (4992) from NewEgg. The ACX cooler versions (4991, 4993 & 4995) are not in stock, so I "settled" for the next card down in price. Good choice these stock cooler solutions are crap throw a nzxt bracket on it and a corsair closed loop cooler good to go - my Titan X never goes above 30 degrees - only way to go for short moey Rich Sennett
June 2, 201511 yr I'm waiting on MSI's 8GB Cards to come out and see how they look. Might have to trade up my 2 970's, only 5 months old. Matt Bernard20+ Years Commercial/GA A&P/PLST

June 3, 201511 yr Well, I got the GTX 980 Ti installed and up and running with no problems so far. But I dropped my CPU OC and went back to the default clock settings, just to play it safe for a while. Stay tuned.

June 3, 201511 yr Well, I got the GTX 980 Ti installed and up and running with no problems so far. But I dropped my CPU OC and went back to the default clock settings, just to play it safe for a while. Stay tuned. One thing I would be very interested in if you have the chance to test is if your new 980Ti will allow you to use 4xSGSS @ 1080 in an advanced a/c such as the NGX without a considerable performance drop when you fly through dense clouds. Or...if you're running a 4K screen it would also be very interesting to see how the performance is in the same situation as mentioned above but without 4xSGSS since that's not needed when running on a 4K screen. I'm trying to make up my mind which path to go to get rid of the AA issues I currently have running a 1st gen Titan @ 1080 which won't allow me to use 4xSGSS without a performance hit when entering dense clouds/severe weather making it close to unflyable. I also tried running a 4K screen using my current Titan but it struggled hard and the performance was simply not acceptable even without any taxiing AA options enabled. As I see it I have the following options to choose from but I'm really not sure which one would be the best one looking at the cost vs performance ratio and which one would allow me to fly the situation described above without any issues and get rid of the AA issues. get a new 980Ti (powerful enough to run 4xSGSS @ 1080?) get 2 970s running in SLI (powerful enough to run 4xSGSS @1080?) get a 4K screen + option 1 or 2 (would 970s with 3.5 GB "real" memory be able to run a 4K screen and likewise...would a single 980Ti be powerful enough to run a 4K screen with good performance?)
June 3, 201511 yr I'm not running a 4K screen as of yet (I run 1440p on my main monitor), but I'm contemplating buying a Samsung UN55JS9000 TV within the next few months to replace my Panasonic plasma. Until I get my OC back online, I probably won't be of much help to you, sorry.
June 3, 201511 yr I'm trying to make up my mind which path to go to get rid of the AA issues Rich wait and hope LM can bring back the nice AA that was in 2.3 and 2.4 - you are wasting your money has nothing to do with the card - I thought the same thing when I bought a Titan X - cool problems will be gone - well its not and if My card doesn't help then a 980 certainly will not - you should hold on to that Titan and sli it - thats what I would do or if you can sell it for a good price get two 980TI'S and sli those - good luck but in the end a 980TI is not the answer thats for SURE - I have no experience with 4k but now your talking some serious money - wait till the next LM update comes out - I think its going to be good as they no of this issue and maybe they will address it - the proof I have is 2.3 and 2.4 otherwise I would not be making this statement as I would not have had any proof of it but I do now Rich Sennett
June 4, 201511 yr get a new 980Ti (powerful enough to run 4xSGSS @ 1080?) get 2 970s running in SLI (powerful enough to run 4xSGSS @1080?) get a 4K screen + option 1 or 2 (would 970s with 3.5 GB "real" memory be able to run a 4K screen and likewise...would a single 980Ti be powerful enough to run a 4K screen with good performance?) "If you’re thinking SLI/CF will win by a landslide, it depends on what game and settings you’re running. On average, 970 SLI is only 5-10 percent faster than the 980 Ti, but depending on the game it may be as much as 20 percent faster...or 15 percent slower. For such a small overall gain in performance, we’d take the 980 Ti. The added VRAM will likely prove more beneficial with time, with several newer releases already using more than 4GB VRAM at maximum quality and high resolutions, and it leaves the door open to 980 Ti SLI in the future. And single card solutions are almost always better—some games simply don't offer good SLI/CrossFire support, especially with launch drivers." June 4, 201511 yr I am waiting for GTX1080Ti release in 2017 Seriously though, I just bought the GTX980 earlier this year, upgrading from a 1.5 year old GTX680. My next upgrade cycle is 2017. I am curious about the gain that people see with this card, keeping the same CPU of course. Vu Pham i7-13700K 5.2 GHz OC, 64 GB RAM, RTX5090, SSD for Sim, SSD for system. MSFS2020, XP-12, DCS
June 4, 201511 yr Based on my initial experience with the GTX 980 Ti, I would wait until the drivers improve. Chrome causes the 353.06 driver to stop working unless one turns hardware acceleration off. Reports on Guru3d are that Witcher 3 crashes with this driver (Glad I have it on my PS4 instead). I'm running 353.12 beta which supposedly fixes the bug with GSync monitors (which I don't have). And now the good news. Even with my elderly CPU(s) not OCed, the GTX 980 Ti 6 GB raises the frame rate in P3d by about 10-15 fps over my GTX 680 4 GB, running 1440p, unlimited frame rate, MyTraffic 6, FTX suite, TrackIR, ASN and pretty much all P3d settings maxed out. And the smoothness is noticeable with fps limited at 35 fps. Big urban areas are still a problem, as the building autogen is CPU-bound. The sim is still usable, though, but the frame rates fall down into the low 20s. These results are with the following aircraft: A2A Cessna 182, Cessna 172 and Cherokee 180, Milviz Baron B-55 and RealAir Turbine Duke V2. I haven't gotten around to any flights with either the PMDG 777 or 737 NGX yet.
