August 27, 201510 yr Commercial Member Excited to see this. It'll maybe get me to take a break from XP for awhile for flying, if not for developing. I'm glad they finally released some prairie textures that actually show yellow wheat fields. That's been one of my beefs with FTX textures for a long, long time. I might have to do a bit of copy and paste to update NRM with them. I get that you yanks might not be all that excited about the release, but for GA flyers, there's a ton of great places to fly, over a wide, wide variety of scenery. There's also a lot of good freeware FTXG airports that cover a lot of the country (a few of them authored by yours truely). In addition, wasn't there a really good looking freeware Yellowknife released a week or two back? It might also get me to dust off the CYEG that I was working on... I have the terminal with the new expansion and tower pretty close to finished, but.. I hate texturing... Jim Stewart Milviz Person.
August 27, 201510 yr I think there is an NA1 as well. There is no uninstall and the entry should be just above the Global and Vector entries in the cfg. You need to run the ORBX central and select the region or hybrid or else it will give you random tiles...which is what happened to me. Coming in between BASE and LC_EU or is that there anyway? No entry for NA2 here, and I believe I activated the GROUP using FTX Central 2 [Area.167] Title=ORBX!OPENLC_BASE Local=ORBX\FTX_OLC\OLC_AA Layer=167 Active=TRUE Required=FALSE [Area.168] Title=ORBX!OPENLC_NAMERICA1 Local=ORBX\FTX_OLC\OLC_NA1 Layer=168 Active=TRUE Required=FALSE [Area.169] Title=ORBX!OPENLC_EUROPE9 Local=ORBX\FTX_OLC\OLC_EU9 Layer=169 Active=TRUE Required=FALSE

I am a bit unclear about NA2 being there. I have a dual install with FSX and use a reference to the FSX Scenery.cfg to "see" all of my scenery so I am not 100% sure if the second one is supposed to be there. I was in the FSX scenery.cfg but not in my FSX-SE scenery.cfg so I just copied it over. Mark CYYZ

The NA2 folder is +5G so it must be for something I also find ORBX reorders all my scenery files that I painstakingly re-arranged to be on top of ORBX as I have payware airports, now they are below.
August 28, 201510 yr I also find ORBX reorders all my scenery files that I painstakingly re-arranged to be on top of ORBX as I have payware airports, now they are below. I was annoyed by that too but I found a file by the name of OldScenery.CFG that it exactly how the scenery.cfg was before updating or installing any OrbX stuff. I'm not sure if OrbX creates this file or if Scenery Configurator editor does, which I use.

August 28, 201510 yr In the FTX Central program you can set the insertion point, make it above OpenLC and it inserts itself there every time. You should have all your addon scenery above Orbx entries.
August 29, 201510 yr Commercial Member our freeware yellowknife will be out in a few weeks: facebook: https://www.facebook.com/SimSceneryMakers?fref=ts&ref=br_tf That was the one I was thinking of! My apologies; I recalled seeing the request for beta testers, but for some reason I thought it had been released. It looks absolutely amazing. Will be very, very excited to fly there, and to use it as a hub for some northern ops! Jim Stewart Milviz Person.
September 3, 201510 yr Commercial Member Well, I decide to pop over to FSX for awhile, and the first thing I did was to download and install this. I was quite looking forward to it, as I tend to fly a lot in Canada (it's where I live and all). However, after the first night of flying around, I can definitely say that I have mixed feelings about this release. Most of the new textures are nice. It's pleasant to see yellow fields across the prairies in mid / late summer; this was something that was lacking in the FTXG texture set. However, a lot of town and city landclass is being shown purely via vector placement (when you see a harsh edge between textures, it's due to vector placement), and at no time has care been taken to make careful vector cuts to match edges or roads. Quite a few towns simply have irregular curved edges that contrast hugely with surrounding land. Industrial areas within urban areas are placed the same, rough quick blobs. I'm not sure if this vector LC placement was hand done, or is using some sort of available data source, but it's not all that great in it's execution, or it's accuracy. I zipped around to perhaps a dozen and a half places where I'm familiar with the landscape (all within eastern Alberta & Saskatchewan); in the majority of those locations I found that the placement and shape of the town / city was quite lacking, despite the use of vector LC placement. I know that highly accurate data is available; I've experimented extensively and successfully with several excellent and completely free (!) and unrestricted data sources to produce landclass consisting of LC tiles as well as landclass purely made out of shapefiles converted to vector data. I'm torn. I love the majority of the underlying textures, but there has been virtually no improvement on towns and cities, in my opinion. Oh well. At least it was cheap... Jim Stewart Milviz Person.
September 3, 201510 yr Regarding Moncton. Is the 20 story office building down town or the 350ft concrete tower down town exist? Thanks Moe
September 3, 201510 yr Regarding Moncton. Is the 20 story office building down town or the 350ft concrete tower down town exist? Thanks Moe Yes and no. Assumption Place and Bell Aliant Tower do exist in Moncton; however, the Tower is really 127 meters (~381 ft) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bell_Aliant_Tower Gary Heverly
