Best realtime moving map for P3D to track your plane's position as you fly?

Featured Replies

I use it in Windows with P3D.

My only complaint about it is that it won't load with the user's preferred settings - they need reloading each time.

Well that's it Petraesu,  my only complaint was that i had to manually connect it (enter code)  every time i wanted to use it,  maybe that's the way it has to be done,  i don't know as this was my first moving map and i wasn't sure of the set up.   I must try it later again as it was fantastic to have a moving map on a separate device beside my monitor

Wow, these are the best looking apps I've seen. Thanks for showing me this site. I think instead of GMAP HD, I rather get FSWidget's EFB app. It also includes a moving map and also can be used to store charts and manuals, and its $10 less.

I would  get  the Avliasoft efb   you can get  a 30 day free trial period  to see if you like it,  the good  thing  it  shows  you the  taxi  route  from where   your parked  to the rwy,  shows sid  and  stars   of  the rwys  you have selected    can  show  you  the weather  at different  airports and  lots more  features.  But at least you can get  a 30  day  trial period  to work it  out

I tried Aviasoft EFB before and didn't like it much. I like something with a clean and simple interface, and I really don't need all those features.

You should try GENav pro.  It's at SimMarket for 20 Euros.  It's a moving map that displays your aircraft on Google Earth and zooms  in and out at any altitude of your choosing to depict the Google Earth level of detail while flying.  It also displays your flight plan, AIRAC, SIDS/STARS, airways, waypoints, navaids, airports, etc. as an overlay on Google Earth. The moving map even shows your aircraft's correct, actual location on the taxiways and runways as seen by Google Earth. You can toggle on/off Google Earth's various displays, such as landmarks and roads.  The setup can be networked onto a separate monitor.  The coolest feature, though is you can adjust the angle of view on Google Earth from zero to 90 degrees so that the mountains, etc. show up as three dimensional when the moving map goes past them.  The only drawback is that sometimes I get distracted by watching the Google Earth display instead of my P3d display because GE's is better at times than the geographic depiction in P3d.

Forever indebted to the late Michael Greenblatt of FSGS.

Lots of products do moving maps, I use FSCommander, it'll also shell up Google Earth and track.  But like other's have suggested ASN, EFB, Plan-G, and many others.  Several support usage and updates from NavDataPro and/or NaviGraph so you will have the latest SIDs/STARs/Transitions, FSCommander will also read your scenery file and gather up Airport information from the BGLs you have installed which give you accurate parking spots, etc.

So you have A LOT to choose from.

Cheers, Rob.

Have you tried Gemini Airmap, it works in FSX , P3D-All versions and X-Plane. Best of all, it's completely free!

I'm also using FSCommander as a moving map using Google Earth, but is there a way to have the map centered on the plane? I find that I always have to re-pan the google earth map everytime my plane flies. I want it to be locked onto the plane. How can you do this?

Aaron, if you fly on VATSIM, Vatastic allows a lock onto your aircraft but the global map is not detailed.

I only fly offline, so there's no way to lock on the plane when using the google earth mode?

There is if you sign up to ProjectFly.  Download the Projectfly client and it'll track your flight online or offline using Google Maps.  It's an ACARS type function so you will also have a record of the flight afterwards.

I mean in FSCommander. I didn't want to download more apps. There's a feature to track your flight in FSC that links with Google Earth. I just wanted to know if you can lock on in the plane while the plane is flying.
