Hi Bert, I know you're a whiz at programming and FSUIPC and all that but I don't use FSUIPC so I don't know what K:AILERON_SET means.

 

But that's okay. I doubt very much they will release a fix for all these bugs. They're reputation is dubious at best with me.

 

When I want a REAL plane I use A2A, PMDG, or the Q400. Carenados are just one tiny step up from the default planes. Basically repainted jumped up defaults.

I'd say they are better than that, but their early releases are consistently buggy.

 

Lets see what develops..

Thanks Bert, I appreciate you taking your time to trouble shoot the bugs.

Just thinking Carenado, if it eventually touches the programming of the AP in any future version of the Shrike, like v1.1, the originality or the "old" typical characteristics of the AP should be preserved to maintain the simulation of the 500S as real as possible.

That is certainly my intent.. to make it perform as closely to the factory manual as possible in FSX/P3D.

 

I hope you are not looking for INOP stickers on some of the knobs as a desirable "old" characteristic  :wink:

 

In its day (1980), this autopilot actually broke some new ground:

As far as I can see, what they'd need to fix, to make the AP 'good' is :-

 

- Activate the Roll controller (as per Bert above, it is currently not working because the ailerons are 'locked' by the FSX Wing Leveller, while "Roll" mode is engaged).

 

- Allow PITCH mode to be engaged when HDG mode is engaged (as in, fix the button animation and stop the PICTCH button from (sometimes) having to be pressed twice.

 

- Have it so that the "HDG" button on the main switch unit, activates either HDG or NAV, dependending on whether HDG or NAV is selected on the secondary (rotary) panel.

 

If they fixed these, I'd be happy as a pig in the mud with it. :smile:

Just took a very quick test flight with your mod Bert.  Excellent.  Of course it would be fantastic to have the same functionality on the VC AP panel, but actually it doesn't bother me at all using the pop up, in order to get such realistic functionality.  Great work.

V1.2. was just released... Again, the autopilot has problems (out of the box), but with my earlier fixes applied, the popup and VC autopilot panel now seem to work nicely.  :smile:

 

Edit: except for the ALT / Pitch interlock..  which I have now fixed.

Can anyone think of a reason why my mouse wheel works well going in one direction, for heading or pitch, but only works for a small change in the other direction and then stops but works the other way fine??

It works wheeling forward but not bad backwards. It works fine in all other add ons so it is not a mouse problem. I have reinstalled but still the same.

Its 'wheely' frustrating as is the whole damn autopilot in fact. A bit frustrating only being able to do RH turns

I cannot see how this Autopilot even got past Alpha testing let alone Beta....but that is how things seem to work with Carenado and a reason I usually steer clear of them.
