Dovetail - Anyone biting?

Recommended Posts

This is 64 bit is it not? Checking Task Manager, everything maxed out using 3.1 gb and it shows I'm only using 35% of available memory! Ave. 80 fps.

There isn't a whole lot pushing it right now :).

i cant get it to run at all :-( .....

Some people reporting this in the forums, what have you done to try and fix the issue?

I wouldn't expect this limited Flight School version to actually use a significant part of the 64-bit address space, which is seriously yuuuuge depending on your Windows version. They don't need it based on what they're showing here.

Think of it as headroom for future scenery and a/c systems modeling in the full flight sim, later on. And also as a technology demonstrator, showing that they can actually port the code to 64-bit.

Spent 3 hrs so far, biggest frustration was the second lesson in the UK, but that was my joystick not centering (fixed the null zone). Still its easy on that one to run out of space, it can even fail once the instructor says how great you are lol, the sim continued to run.

Even though I have been sim flying since the 80's there a few good bits and pieces with the lessons that seem useful.

No my point is that 32 bit FSX/P3D can only address 3gb. So this is 64 bit. I just didn't know. Great to see.

I understand :). Its actually bad programming if they use space just because its there, so I am actually wondering how we'll push it see with what we got.

I would submit a ticket here:

I have not encountered any issues, so not going to have much to add. Send them a dxdiag if possible too.

If you've used ORBX with the Base, Open LC and vector with their autogen related to the specific regions and the maxing out of the sliders in  DTG memory, particularly video memory is eaten up rapidly. There is a lot of room for real weather, high density airports, traffic AI etc. so I don't think it's bad programming as there's lot's of room for what we will come to expect in the future. I flew out from LOWI and it's beautiful with lots of autogen, trees, traffic. I'd like to know the LOD of the mesh because it looks really good.

Dave, don't blame DTG, as they don't have moderator powers here. Blame me and my low tolerance for what amounts to nothing more than trolling posts. Your "videos" never showed up in any case, so they were truly pointless.

BTW, no posts are ever "deleted," they are merely "hidden from view" as we never know when or if we may have to "resurrect" them...

You know what they say about "assuming".....

Yes I do know what they say, in fact a professor once told me "if you put some thoughtful logic into assumptions, you tend to be right". (as confirmed by Bill's comment above)

Let me guess.... you want 64bit.

I flew from LSGG to LIMV and it's absolutely gorgeous. Flying through the mountain passes and the traffic below going at it appears the correct rate the thing is a joy to fly VFR. Huge amount of trees and autogen and very good mesh I'm really liking what I see and 70 fps to boot!

I've enjoyed the lessons quite a bit. Brought back great memories of flight school when I was younger. Also, I saw my VAS peak at 6.0 GB! Wow!

blimey even a £15 starter sim, which is not aimed at the really serious simmers.can raise emotions out of all proportions, the £15 price point really states it position in the game, the question should be,is it good enough to interest new people into this hobby and encourage them stay

I bought it.  Played it for an hour or so last night.

Look at the price.

Its better than FSX out of the box but not as good as FSX with all the best addons.  As expected.

The lessons are fun, if a bit frustrating.

(On the landing lesson the instructor let me stall while turning the corner onto final and crash.  As with FSX it just has checkpoints at various points in the lesson and if you don't meet the parameters at that point then the instructor stops the lesson)

Fun though and although a Super Cub wouldn't have been my first choice, the model seems pretty well done I think.

Yesterday i changed the configuration file so that the LOD RADIUS would be 12.000000 and i managed to get 6.1GB of memory used. Terrain also seems a lot better far away, so i'd say this is working as it used to in FSX. I wonder what's the actual radius limit on this?
