LM will release hotfix for P3Dv3.3 in a few days

Recommended Posts

I unfortunately went straight from v3.1 to 3.3, very tired and blissfully unaware Kate last night of the potential short term issues with sceneries.

Can anyone suggest where I could download vs 3.2 from? I wouldnt need scenery update.

Mark.

Just wait for the hotfix.

You know...for a company that so many non-P3D users joyfully proclaim doesn't care about simmers...they just keep on releasing fixes directly catered to simmers. I don't think too many military contractors are worried about FlyTampa compatibility.

Or cloud shadows...or environment reflections on the aircraft..or global scenery shadows...

P3D is a weird one. They seem to really focus on eyecandy and bells and whistles, that should logically be completely irrelevant to milliary contractors or aviation training centers...

To me it almost seems like the P3D team is run by flightsim enthusiasts almost independently of upper LM management. Sure they've had to throw in a few "training" related features, but mostly they seem to put in whatever they feel like.

Shhhhh!   In truth, though, I think they're able to do some long-overdue catch up work.  When those professionals get home and see their kids play Call of Duty and look at the graphics...you know what they're thinking.  On the other hand, the vast, vast majority of the things I see in the new feature list, I could care less about.  Oh joy, more changes to the SimDirector.  Gosh I'm excited.

I think all that eye candy is very important for realism and immersion. The greater ones sense of being there is in a simulator the more effective the training.

Careful there Jimmi,

Well during most events that one needs to prepare for, there is usually sun, clouds, showdows on mountains and else where, wind , rain, people walking about, cars trucks airplanes, stars, choppers, tanks.....could just be that some members of LM Management have looked out the window or God forbid actually left the cave and went ....dare I say it??....Outside!!! :Big Grin:

Sorry Spirit I did the quote wrong

Sure am, but no harm getting things in order. Any suggestions for where to get v3.2?

You mean you didn't keep a copy of the 3.2 download?

No, I didn't download it - my mistake which I regret. Running 3.1 up until last night when I installed 3.3.

Melph, just log into your LM account and I think it will still be there on downloads page.

But just curious, I don't see A LOT of devs lining up and asking LM to add anything to the SDK in order to reach a specific feature/objective ... I know Pete did but anyone else? There are also many new features that aren't being exploited because they "don't work in FSX". Now that P3D is more popular, more devs are "paying attention", lets hope a golden opportunity is not missed.

"Paying attention" is one thing, but the increased popularity of P3D needs to be sufficient enough for an aircraft developer to risk higher development costs for parallel development using the separate SDK's and features available. In many (most?) cases, the developers of the aircraft we fly are not exactly making huge returns from their work as it is; arguably even less return now that two sims are required to be supported versus only one.

There's indeed some exciting stuff available to aircraft developers within P3D, but trying to turn a profit from those details is another thing entirely.

Every been in a level d sim? Eye candy... none.

Although, I do love it!

I think the logic behind that is to have the pilot focus on what's important, which is flying the aircraft. It's the same reason that the military doesn't throw novice pilots with zero flight time directly into an F-35 and that civilians train on simple aircraft like a Cessna 152 or 172.

Another reason is that high end simulators are not bought and sold every year or two. They basically are a niche product that is designed to be standardized, not constantly changing. I can see that approach changing in the future, but it will be market driven. VR may change the whole way that the military and airlines look at simulator training.

Naah, they've made many changes to other items focused towards training such as SimDirector, Scaleform, and now Multichannel (which is NOT for the weak of wallet especially those "genlock" GPUs at $6000 each).  It's just what gets attention here are the additional visual elements ... visuals sell to everyone be it contractor, military, commercial, or trainer.

Yes, hotfix is now available for V3.3.

Cheers, Rob.

We have tested our first native P3D ground on our already released Palermo LICJ scenery and result is extremely promising. We are of course still testing, but if everything goes smoothly, this will become a standard feature for all of our upcoming sceneries (and Palermo should be updated too).

We have just released a video showing the new GP:

That looks quite promising. They really should create a custom "dynamic cube map" though to have the actually scenery generate authentic reflections on the wet surfaces. The tree covered mountain reflections look really out of place and silly when the default cube map is used.

While it would not make much of a difference for scenery nearer the equatorial regions, the lack of support for seasons is a pretty big letdown.
