The org store is having a 4th of July sale, and the Rotatesim MD-80 is now $45. Since this is the first time I've seen this go on special, I'm just wondering what's the progress on patches given the criticism from Froogle's video from a while ago.

System wise how do you compare it with the IXEG 737, and the Leonardo Maddog? Also is it polished or buggy?

I was about to ask something similar, I want to take advantage of the sale too but I'm debating between the MD-80 and the Tu-154, I'm more inclined to the Tupolev but I don't know how difficult the systems are.

I'm absolutely gutted because I bought the Rotate MD80 the day before yesterday at full price. Oh well, some you win....

Any way, I was a little unsure about it but I love it.   It's not as complete as something like the FF 767, or even the IXEG on it's constant development journey, but for me, the important stuff is all there and it feels, sounds and flies like a Maddog.    The A/P (quite quirky and complex on this a/c) now works a treat, and they provide custom bindings so you can use keyshortcuts/hardware, etc, if you wish.

I enjoy it more than the FF 767 but not quite as much as my two XP10 all times favourites; the IXEG 737 and the Dreamfoil EMB110.

I understand that the release version was a bit of a mess with bugs, but as of the version I bought two days ago, I'd say it's very stable and I had no issues.

Highly recommend it - especially you lucky beggars who will get it cheaper in the sale!

If you send a kindly worded, friendly email to the org store, it isn't unheard of for them to give you a refund for the difference if you buy a product right before a sale

I wish they would add mouse wheel support like the Flightfactor 767 has

wheel support is a planned feature for 10.50 so hopefully it wouldnt take them alot of time to make it compatible

OK I pulled the trigger and brought it, and after the first flight my impressions are it's OK for $45. Some FMC functions, like PROG, FIX, HOLD, procedure turns and TOC estimates are not there, but the stuff that is in there are of decent quality. VNAV descent path feels a bit suspect, but TOD is around the right place. Weather radar is a bit wonky but they're expanding it in a later patch, along with TCAS.

Feature wise it's also a bit less than IXEG. It doesn't have a load manager, aircraft manager, checklists or custom failures. And it's single FMC operation. Systems wise it fell short of IXEG or the Leonardo Maddog, but at $45 it's not bad at all. $60 would be a bit more difficult to justify.

Finally if you like eye candy, the exterior model is perhaps the best I've seen in X-plane. I would say it slightly exceeds Captainsim, if you're from FSX.

Edit: Just to add a little extra - The aircraft feels quite unstable when hand flown, when compared to the IXEG or any complex FSX airliners. It has that yo-yo effect which makes it difficult to trim and fly with precision.

I bought too for $45 and I am learning to fly this aircraft. Very nice plane.

I don't have the md80 yet but the tu154 is fantastic, easily the most complex and detailed systems I've had a chance to fly on sim. But because of this, and the language barrier for those who don't speak Russian, learning material is a little sparse and it's a very steep learning in curve for some of the finer points of the aircraft.

Something about that TU-154 that keeps calling me....I might have to give in to the urge one of these days. I have the AN-24 and took me ages to learn it but it is great fun!
