November 3, 200520 yr Hi jeff,i agree with your comment.. I know though, that when it comes to the 777, id be flying COA, and anything else would just be for the fun of it and to take some screenshots...But i understand where some stand, they just dont want to be told what they can upload... And i guess thats understandable, but your right, 99% of the customers will most likely only fly their favorite airline... Anything after that, is basicly, just for fun... Chase Barnett
November 3, 200520 yr i like that one too... should be up for a few awards...one thing i love about this thread, is that its helped me get this much closer to my 1000 posts... :-hah Chase Barnett
November 3, 200520 yr Lets put this in its proper context1- When someone other than PSS does a livery they have to use the PSS textures or paint kit and that base texture is the copyrighted property of PSS and it does give us some right to say where and what is uploaded.2- We do allow repaintsto be uploaded on VAs, PSS and AVSIM .3- The only way we can be sure that other coyrighted material is not included in those uploads is if we have a chance to see them first.4- PSS has had the same marketing practice for our products since our first release way back in FS98. The concept has always been to keep the price of the base package as low as we can and let the user select the liveries they want. And sales have supported that users like this approach.5- To start jumping all over us 5 years later doesn't make much sense to me, but then not much does in this crazy hobby. November 3, 200520 yr >>> 2- We do allow repaintsto be uploaded on VAs, PSS and AVSIM .So, we can paint our livery aslong as its within the pss requirements, then upload it to avsim? Chase Barnett
November 3, 200520 yr >If I were PSS I would just pull the release and forget the FS>community because too many are ungreatful. >I've for some time been wondering why Microsoft and addon makers don't indeed just hang up their hats and leave for greener pastures. The attitude of this community is sickening. Sure it's a small group of cretins who are the main culprits, but there seem to be an inordinate number of people who will chime in with approval whenever anyone attacks a company or freeware group even if those punters never used any of the products the flames are about.I at one stage started working on making some addons and utilities for FS. By the time the first were getting to a stage where they might be of some use to others the community had changed from friendly to extremely hostile (though nowhere near as bad as it is now) and I just decided to give it to a few friends on condition it would go no further.I don't want the hassle and death threats I know some addon makers have been getting (yes, it's gotten that bad). And I know for a fact I'm not the only one who got out or gave up trying to get in.
November 3, 200520 yr They restrict uploading to other places WITHOUT EXPLICIT PERMISSION in order to make sure they can take action against people painting liveries they also sell.If you make something completely different and ask to put it up on your VA site you may well get permission, I know TCA did for the 320 series I made for them (which are now in both the TCA library and the PSS one).It also makes sure there's a single repository for liveries and stuff, which is rather handy for users who otherwise would have to look in a hundred places for repaints. And this might prevent double effort, as it is a lot easier to see if a specific livery you're interested in already exists.
November 3, 200520 yr Upload to PSS and ask for permission to upload to Avsim and/or your VA.That should be granted, might take a few days if the team is busy of course. It's the best way for your users, and gives you the largest userbase.
November 3, 200520 yr Proving that you used a paintkit is easy - unless you happen to create a pixel-prefect recreation of it by yourself which, being honest, is highly unlikely. If you did create your own textures from scratch then well done and you can do what you like with them - you hold the copyright. You very rarely buy computer software. What you get is a license to use a product, be it a model, a paintkit or an operating system, and there are terms and conditions of use of that license. If you breach it, you're in breach of the terms and conditions of use. Yes, Windows has one as well that most people ignore as they install it. There ARE things you are not allowed to do with Windows. Many of them. You can't always do what you want in the world - that's why we have laws, to stop people doing what they want that hurt other people. It comes down to the usual answer in this case, though: If you don't like it, don't get it. It's your choice. You are not being forced to do, or not to anything.Ian P.
November 3, 200520 yr Well then, with the fact that avsim is the only file library i download from, im going to be happy for the day... :-hahTake care jw.. :) Chase Barnett
November 3, 200520 yr JeffI was not critising your post. I was trying to point out that copyright law is more rigorous than many people imagine. Gerry Howard
November 3, 200520 yr No one has to use anything you made to paint the PSS777.In fact, someone can create an alternative psd paint kit from scrach.Or not use a paint kit at all.Anyway, what PSS has done in the past is totally irrelevant.Potential customers are not happy with this policy, I hope they will vote by not pulling out their credit cards. I won't, for now. Even though I do want the aircraft. You have not answered the questions about royalties to the airliners. What PSS do with this pricing policy (including the ban about freeware repaints, which I still belive is illegal) is simply against all norms and values of the FS community.http://online.vatsimindicators.net/825051/142.png
November 3, 200520 yr But they do own the right to the base textures which they CAN tell you what you can and can't do with.*******, paint it and keep it to yourself or buy the paint from PSS.It's not brain surgery really is it?
