P3D 3.4 Experience Thread

Recommended Posts

I went for 3.4 like you do and ended with vas dropping and fps dropping, came from 3.2 and looks like my compt setup does not like 3.4. Only did the client thing.

Could not access menus when trying to save, load etc without it CTD.

Gone back to 3.2 and it's all screwed up now - runs and planes work PMDG etc, but menus are still not working and loads very very slow - wish LM had never put this update out - really weed off.

Sorry to hear that and I take it form your post you didn't have a complete backup of your system to revert to but instead reinstalled version 3.2?

However although I had a complete backup to revert to I still got a very strange problem when flying ESSA-LEMG I never seen before. You can check it out here...

Like I say in the linked post, maybe it's time reinstalling GTA V and get some of the frustration out

That's pretty easy. People who don't fly complex tubes never have problems with VAS. It's a joke if people who only fly small GA planes claim that they don't have VAS problems. Of course not if you fly planes which are less complex than the hydraulic system of a tubeliner alone...

I'm also thinking about reverting back to 3.3. I will do a 777 flight tomorrow from Heathrow and see how it goes...

So the 737 NGX  isn't a complex plane.. Ok......

Question for everyone..

Has anyone else ran into the issue of cloud shadows on the terrain missing since updating?

I suspect its because i did not install the content portion (uninstall old etc).. Saw this mentioned before about a previous upgrade.. I did clear the shaders folder.. Is this needed to fix this this time around.. ?

Curious as no one mentioned it that i know if in this thread..

Thanks

I installed the Client only and still have the cloud shadows.

The cloud shadows are not as dark as they used to be IMO, I cleared the shader cache thinking they weren't showing but I think they were there the whole time.

Use PTA to make them darker ..

My 3.4 update at this particular stage is that on my machine it is rubbish.

3.2 was running ok and why oh why do we have to update - vas is horrible and fps are down and with my machine every frame counts. Had one or 2 of the bongs when landing - what's the sense I say to myself of buying good aircraft and good scenery when we can never see them in their true light.

Just fed up.

All the best

I switched from 3.2 to 3.4.9.

Installed Client and Content.... and for the very first time - I had absolutely no problem after the upgrade.

Everything works fine - I am surprised.

Normally there were at least 3 to 5 broken addons.

I am very pleased :-)

Did a flight on VATSIM from EGLL to CYYZ yesterday - no problems.

But at EGLL you can also experience long frames...

Maybe I'm one of the lucky ones. But so far I haven't experienced any VAS issues, although my flights have been short haul. All flights have included the PMDG 737, FTX Global, Vector and LC and all flights were to and from medium/large third party airports.

In sim settings moderate

Flights to date with P3D 3.4:

EGKK (UK2000) - ENGM (Aerosoft)
ENGM-EDDF (Aerosoft)
EDDF-EDDB (Aerosoft)
EDDB-LKPR (Aerosoft)
LKPR-EDDB
EDDB - LDSP (Aerosoft)
LDSP - LOWW (Flytampa)
LOWW- EGLL (UK2000)

My VAS usage has peaked at 90% which I did think was a bit high, but no VAS crash as yet. I suspect that the 777 may change matters

Glad to hear that Erich!

This is what is so strange with the VAS issue in 3.4 where some have zero issues while others struggle to get from one payware airport to the next.

My setup seems very similar to yours looking at add-ons used.

I went from 3.2 to 3.4, with client only, and was also surprised that everything worked and it is perfectly stable with no issues at all. I am wondering, if going from 3.3 to 3.4, is what causes some users problems. I had to roll back from 3.3 to 3.2, because of many problems that 3,3 caused when I installed it months ago.

Running P3D v3.4.9. I did not do an in place upgrade. I saved myself a whole lot of trouble and did it the hard way. "Short term pain for long term gain as they say". I have never liked the idea of upgrading on top of upgrades. I guess many here also upgraded their Windows on top of a previous version (Windows 7 or 8.1 to Windows 10 and then again to the Anniversary Update). Then you are also doing it with P3D and even worse, only installing some of the upgrade options. That's way too much like a binary suss-pool waiting to go wrong.

I formatted my C (Windows) drive, formatted my E (P3D) drive. Installed everything from scratch using only the latest installers over a period of a couple days. P3D V3.4.9 works perfectly. I really do not see VAS as being better or worse but the sim is an overall smoother experience and I certainly would not ever contemplate going back to 3.2.

My 3.4.9. is back to where my previous version was now with one exception. I have held off on installing the Majestic Q400. Not until they release a proper patch for it. Why? Because I don't like patching unless it is absolutely necessary! When Majestic release the new full installer, I will install it. In this way, mine is as pristine system as I can hope to get. Not a half baked client only update. I suspect that for many, herein lies the problems you are having.

Normally I too prefer to do a clean and full install rather than an upgrade but this time around it wasn't that long ago since I did a complete wipe of my PC so wasn't really up to doing it all over again.

I think what I will do now is to stay with P3Dv3.3.5 and make sure my system is stable and performs well. Then I'll just enjoy flying until P3Dv4 is out.

By then I think it's might be time for another clean install of everything. Or at least of P3D. Not so sure wiping Windows (unless you have a specific reason doing so) will do you any good when it comes to P3D and how it performs as long as you make sure to really get rid of all traces of the previous version.
