December 1, 200520 yr HelloTrackIR 3 and 4 are basically the same except for a larger sensor area on the V4 giving apparently a wider field of view. The 6DOF comes from the Vector clip which is available for both version3 and 4 .The best way to give really precice tracking to enable you to easily select buttons/switches ect is to assign a joystick/yoke button to select precision mode or pause mode.Even with the TrackIr 3 Pro i can pan from wingtip to wingtip and from overhead down to the floor by only moving my head by a couple of inchesand the Vector clip lets lean to see down the side of the realair spitfire whilst taxying without problems.
December 1, 200520 yr Would have to chip in here too and agree all round.....One of the best addons I've ever bought too !!RgsEd:)
December 1, 200520 yr Author Tom, I've had the Track IR3 Pro with vector for about 9 months and it simply stopped working about 2 weeks ago. I e-mailed E-Dimensional support and all I received was a note to call Natural Point. I also called their help line and got NO response at all. My point is this: E-Dimensional support is just about none. If I had it to do over I would have purchased it directly from Natural Point. I did call Natural Point and after returning the defective unit they have my new one on the way. Just my 2 cents worth. Craig
December 2, 200520 yr Commercial Member I finally said I was gonna sit down and try this thing out. Been sittin' in a box in the corner for the past few weeks. So I figured I would need a few good hours to hook this up, read the manual and set all the calibrations there must be.Whoa... I was up and running in 15 minutes! This can't be right. Install was a no brainer. Insert disk, insert USB cable, turned it on, turn on FS2004 and without any calibration I was up and flyin'. Talk about a WoW factor! This felt like the first time I saw FS all over again. This is awesome. ;) I have never been a huge fan of 3-D cockpits but this changes everything. Did about a 30 minute flight around Skagway and Alaska vicinity. It felt sooo real. I hardley had the need to change views (or even wanted to). But my head is spinning. As I expected, I had to take a break as I am little light-headed for being the first time. Will need to do some fine tuning. For anybody who flyies only 3-d this is a must have. An early Xmas present. December 2, 200520 yr In my opinion, no.I use Active Camera together with TrackIR, eg for moving over to the FO seat, moving about in the virtual cabin (if the plane has one). On long flights I often disable trackIR but stay in VC mode (since I otherwise tend to get a stiff neck) and when I need to momentarily look around I use active camera instead. You also have a lot of other functions with Active Camera that TrackIR doesn't substitute. This is a short video I did where I use both Active camera and Trackir (copy and paste the url into windows media player if you want to see it)http://www.alcom.aland.fi/kitte/pmdg/walkaround.wmvand here is another where I move around abit witht he AC:http://www.alcom.aland.fi/kitte/pmdg/fs2.wmvhttp://www.alcom.aland.fi/kitte/pmdg/spitfire_ksan.wmv Krister LindénEFMA, Finland------------------
December 2, 200520 yr I had trouble using my Trackir with Active Camera. Specifically I got alot of shaking when using the internal view function of AC and my flyby view did not work anymore. The two fixes I found are as follows:1. You can turn off your roll axis on your Trackir and then all active camera functions seem to work fine. or2. You can leave your roll axis on. Then turn off internal view in AC,you will lose things like ground turbulence sounds, etc., but the shaking stops. Then use the freeware program called FSCAMERA available here: http://www.g-daehling.de/fscamera/ for the flyby, takeoff, and approach views. FSCAMERA and AC do not appear to conflict with eachother. Probably because FSCAMERA runs outside of FS9. You lose some features of AC with this option but it kind of a compromise. I chose to use option # 2 as I like to have all 6 axis on my Trackir working. If you want to walk around a cabin on an aircraft or use a preset wing view simply turn AC internal view on, go where you want to go, and then turn it off again and you should be fine. The best part is that there is no more shaking.:-)
