November 30, 200520 yr My vendor advised me that it can be mounted on a headset which would be a much better solution. I haven't tried yet - isn't it nice sometimes to spend a little time enjoying the excitement of anticipation! ;)Mike
November 30, 200520 yr ME TOO!Order placed....and I won't open 'til Christmas. Of course, it'll be mighty tempting thinking about it and anticipating it. I'm sure that Christmas morning will feel like it did when I was a kid!Placed my order so that it benefits AVSIM as well. There isn't a better site for simmers, and I can't imagine a day without it without browsing the pages on AVSIM. I hope others get the Track IR "bug" for the Holiday, and are able to do the same. Thanks for the "heads up" on that, Tom.
November 30, 200520 yr So the TrackIR tracks your head movement, correct? Yet your cockpit is only as big as your monitor, so to use TrackIR you move your head yet must keep your eyes in the same place? Am I missing something here? Michael Bentz
November 30, 200520 yr HelloI have the Trackir + Vector and the cap is by far the best mounting for the clip as it positions the clip in front of the head which provides for a greater range of movement for a given head movement. If you imagine moving your head a inch side to side then the brim movesby a greater amount translating into more on screen movement.Congratulations on ordering the Trackir it really is a different sim when you use this, flying without it becomes like trying to drive your car with the side windows blacked out.
November 30, 200520 yr Tom,I must say I am a bit surprised at this. I have always checked the AVSIM store to see if a product that I am purchasing is available. Even now, this product is not listed.Am I doing somthing wrong in finding it? I will use the link you provide, but are there other products that are available that are not listed in your store? CPU: Core i5-6600K 4 core (3.5GHz) - overclock to 4.3 | RAM: (1066 MHz) 16GB MOBO: ASUS Z170 Pro | GeForce GTX 1070 8GB | MONITOR: 2560 X 1440 2K
November 30, 200520 yr Yes. You are missing the clever bit! Your head movements are amplified by the system (and the amount and its position are adjustable). So a small head movement translates to a larger change in the view. It feels perfectly natural after a few moments and allows you to scan from wing tip to wing tip without noticing any unusual eye movement. I have used the TrackIR3 pro/vector for nearly a year now and never fly without it. I am surprised some people are still not convinced that it is as good as it is.Cheers,N. 11th Gen i9-11900K @ 3.5GHz | nVidia GeForce RTX 3080 | Corsair 64 GB RAM | Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB | Asus 27" RoG G-Sync Track IR5 | Thrustmaster Warthog | CH Products Pedals
December 1, 200520 yr Track IR is a must have, especially with Vector! I can't fly without it.Tony=http://www.flightsim-bevs.com]
December 1, 200520 yr I don't believe it is in the store. Avsim gets paid for the advertising if you purchase the item via a link or banner on Avsim.Dave
December 1, 200520 yr I had put off buying TtackIR for over a year, thinking the cost to me was unjustified. How wrong I was. It's more than an addon, it's a natural extension of the simming experience, pushing the immersion factor to another level.Greghttp://www.fs2crew.com/linepilot.jpg
December 1, 200520 yr My only worry: I have the Jetliner Yoke from PFC and the throttle console as well. I have numerous movements mapped to the buttons on the yoke. Does TrackIR interfere with any hardware used for FS? Eric
December 1, 200520 yr What do you mean by "numerous movements mapped to the buttons"? On my CH Products Yoke there is a hatswitch that I can use to look around in the 2D or VC cockpit - are you referring to some similar function? If that is the case then, no, it doesn't cause any problem. The only conflict I've experienced is with Active Camera. You have to change the latency for Active Camera since TrackIR uses its own latency. After that it still doesn't work perfectly but good enough for me. Krister LindénEFMA, Finland------------------
December 1, 200520 yr The jetliner yoke comes with numrerous buttons on it. I have A/P disconnect and electric trim mapped to it currently along with view panning. Will TrackIR interfere with any of those? Eric
December 1, 200520 yr HelloNo the TrackIr will not interfere with any of theseBasically you wont probably need the panning unless you like to pan around in spot view, In VC view TrackIr will be doing the panning so you can leave your yoke set up as it is.But if you have any spare buttons you could map these to center the Trackir and also change to precision mode which helps you to hit those small switches in the VC.
December 1, 200520 yr I have owned Track IR with Vector for about a year. The only issue I have with it in flying the big jets in the virtual cockpit, is the "pin the tail on the donkey "effect when trying to grab a small switch that is off to the side. If you move your head, even a micrometer, it seems, you have to start chasing the switch with your mouse. What I do to stop this is to switch Track IR off with the freeze key, click the switch , then unfreeze it. To be honest, I find Track IR really good for VFR flying, in light aircraft, and not so necessary flying aircraft like the 767. And before anyone suggests it, I have played with the Profile settings for days and have it pretty well optimized.... ;-)
December 1, 200520 yr I think the new Track IR 4 eliminates this "Pin the Tail on the Donkey" effect with its 6DOF technology, doesn't it? It would seem that this new improvement would make the device smoother and more precise. I'm only guessing, and I would love to hear from someone who has the NEW one....the Track IR4.
