March 18, 20179 yr So gents, I think we're onto a winner here. I've not had time to do any scientific tests but the weather here has recently been pretty nasty with almost solid cloud cover with gusty winds and rain showers etc. With the FSL A320-X and real weather, 5 layers of clouds which are set to 100 mile draw and coverage at maximum I am having no issues at all at keeping a smooth 30hz forced 30fps. This is at 4k with all the internal P3D graphics settings (not scenery settings note) set to maximum. These kinds of clouds used to kill me before but now I seem to be able to sit in whiteout IFR situations with no issues in even the most demanding add-on in the sim. Very happy so far indeed. One thing I haven't tried yet is a lot of AI at large, complex airports but that for me wasn't a big issue. I always experienced more performance issues around heavy weather than with scenery. Incidentally, I went back to Win 7 and after doing all the updates have turned off all the notifications, no need for anti virus as this pc is not online and it's been great, like meeting an old friend. No nagging, no updates destroying frames in the middle of a session, no screwed up drivers that you didn't want! I'm sticking with 7 for the foreseeable. | Ben Weston www.airline2sim.com
March 18, 20179 yr Would be very interested in how this card handles 4K with at least x4 sparse grid super sampling and heavy cloud cover? gb. YSSY. March 18, 20179 yr This is coming from a 980ti. Very happy so far. The card is pretty small compared to the 980ti however with only one fan and takes up perhaps a third less space, which surprised me. | Ben Weston www.airline2sim.com
March 18, 20179 yr Good morning everyone. I came from.a gtx 970. I am also running 4k. Before the 1080ti, weather would bring my system to a literal crawl. I had to dial back to one cloud layer in ASN and a 60 mile draw distance with cloud coverage set to the lowest setting in order to get around 20 fps in any sort of weather other than fair weather. Wits the 1080ti, i currently have it set to 3 cloud layers, 90 mile draw distance and max cloud coverage and in any type of weather, im getting 30FPS locked. II am now completely cpu bound on an old i7 2700k OCed to 4.8 on air cooling. I don't get much more than 35 fps in any given setting. even in cruise. All these details were noted while in the new pmdg 747 VC. outside in any wingview or spot plane views, fps are around 50 or so with no dipping. All this on 4k. For those interested in this card, you won't see huge fps increases in situations were you were never GPU limited. So find a place that you can know for sure your GPU isn't taxed and note the performance. That is a good indicator of what to expect during good wx days. Once you get into an area of bad wx or if you want to jump your graphics setting higher, you will be treated to a 0% performance drop. I'm assuming this until you load up the sim with a lot of cloud layers. I know this isn't a scientific review but the card is working fantastically and I couldnt ask for anything better to run in 4k....except a new cpu. Just for grins, im getting around 25 fps in the 747 at egll during no wx and 20 ai traffic airplanes. With terrible wx, performance stays the same. this is the only place that I dip below 30 fps. at most other airports, i am locked at 30 fps with an occasional dip to about 28 fps in all types of weather. Also, for anyone who plays other games, this card plows through most of everything at ultra/4k at 60 fps. TAA will cut performance back a touch but fo we really need it at 4k? March 18, 20179 yr Would upgrading from a 1060 to a 1080ti help me with my terrain blurries issue at all? I also have a shimmering issue but my 1060 can't handle 4x SGSS so that would be another reason for upgrading. I'm on a 4.4 ghz 6600k CPU so I may be CPU bound. I also run 4k. I get less blurries when I lock the FPS instead of unlimited at 30hz vsync but I'm wondering if a better card would help me out. 5800x3d Asus 4090 ROG Strix OC 2TB SSD 32GB Ram

AI Airline Traffic takes a bigger toll on my system than weather, although weather is a close second. Looking forward to hearing if the 1080ti helps with AI Traffic. To be honest, It helps out but not quite as much as I would have hoped. I think that stuff is more CPU bound. That is what I expected as my understanding is AI Traffic is more CPU dependent. I was just hoping otherwise. Good to hear that it helps with 4k screens as the main reason I am considering this card to move from triple monitors to one large 4k screen which will double my current resolution.
