(depends on whether I can sell the 1080 I have now for $500)

That might be a stretch.  Brand new Asus 1080 Strix have dropped to $545 to $575.

That's why I guesstimated $250 - $400 more.  Now I may have to change that to $250 - $500.  I paid $660 for the 1080.  I may just keep the 1080 and get the 1080TI too.

I'm keeping my eye open, and despite an announcement of late march for the release of partner cards, i've seen not a thing. I'm beginning to suspect late march means the last second of the last hour on March 31

I am using EVGA's Step Up program. I just bought. a 1070 back in December, but for another $300 I figured I might as well upgrade and have this one last me a long while.

Thanks for heads up.  That's a nice one.  Not overclocked (but can be).  I'm still going to wait for the ASUS ROG 1080 TI.  Looks like the ASUS one will be about $740 which is much cheaper than I had expected.

Best regards,

Jim

Hello all,

I am running 1060 but I am thinking of getting 1080. Since 1080Ti release, 1080 price has dropped dramatically and is around $400-$500.
Still waiting for more test on 1080Ti.

Cheers,
Hoang Le

Good decision!  I will have mine up for sale for $499.99 soon w/free shipping.  I do believe the 1080 TI's have been fully tested though.  The only test left is when P3Dv4 is released and maybe, at a lessor degree, with the current P3D/FSX/X-Plane.

Best regards,

Jim

Just got mine today:  Gigabyte Founders Edition. The move from my gtx780 (non-TI) to the 1080TI in both P3D and FSX is impressive in terms of performance. Solid 30 to 70fps in 4k.  This is with AS16 (5 cloud layers), PMDG 777 and dense areas such as FSDT KFJK, with MSAA at 4 Samples and most sliders to the right and Shadows in the medium range.

Never had a smoother experience!  Now to try X-Plane 11!

cheers

the card didn't even come close to that performance for me. I'm on a 2700k at 4.8ghz. I couldn't believe that p3d performs so terribly at 4k with a cpu at 4.8 ghz. oh well

I am saving up for a new cpu suite. however, i feel that it still.wont be good performance.

Matt, I don't use AI traffic of any sort... so maybe that's something to look after?

I flew into MMMX tonight which had lots of thunderstorms in the vicinity and once or twice I saw it drop to 25-27 ... but never below 25.

The GPU load was at 99% tho' and the card reached 87 degrees (C) which kind of scared me for a second... then I saw the card's fan was slowly speeding up to 65% and managed to lower the temps into the higher 70s.

I'm loving this GPU so far!!!

You running with P3D right?

AFAIK with FSX(SE) the GPU not going to be that effect comparing to P3D so upgrading wouldn't see much changes?
I am still so confused about how the simulator(s) use the hardwares.

Yes P3D here. But did also try FSX and it did show an improvement.

Bear in mind I upgraded from a GTX 780. In your case you have a 1060, maybe the difference you will obtain isn't as dramatic as the one I'm witnessing in my system.
