I really didn't want the leaf blower in my case. hahaha I've never been into over clocking GPUS and one review mentioned only a few fps increase. I wanted it now! March 15, 20179 yr Author Commercial Member I have the Asus Strix 1080 and never had any cooling problems so will most likely go that way with the Ti. March 15, 20179 yr Author Commercial Member How would changing a video card disturb windows? I have swapped many and never had that happen. It was kernel panic type BSOD meltdown too so I decided not waste time trying to fix it and just nuked Win and started over. March 15, 20179 yr Author Commercial Member I know the feeling. I was just about ready to spend a day redoing windows but got lucky and found an answer to my problem. I could not get any video driver to install (driver install failed message) and after several post on several forums asking for advice and also Googling the question over and over I accidentally found the answer from a post about something completely different. Turns out somehow my Nvidia temp folder did not have my name for permissions (always did, something changed it) so I added my pc name to the security list and, bang, drivers installed with no problem. It is the little odd things that really can mess you up with windows. Paul Grubich 2017 - Professional texture artist painting virtual aircraft I love. March 15, 20179 yr If you did not reinstall the drivers, that could have caused the issue with the meltdown as I think it confuses your system registry unless you reinstall the drivers too. I don't think it should but computers are computers and they are constantly thinking of ways to really get humans upset and destroy things.... March 15, 20179 yr It is never the computers fault. His system was fine until the user intervened (installed new hardware without updating driver). Users are evil. IF you have hardware that uses its own driver (as opposed to a default OS driver) always remove said driver prior to removal and replacement of hardware. It may not always be needed...but youll generally never have an issue ;) - Johnathon Barfolomew Doe III
March 15, 20179 yr Yep I have a feeling if I'd uninstalled the 980Ti driver and rolled back to the default monitor driver in Windows, then plopped the 1080Ti in there and updated back to the Nvidia drivers then I might have got away with it. Anyhow, 6 hours later I'm in the PMDG 744 in a very default sim which as the vanilla sim does, is running like butter.
