Flight Sim World is Now Live!

Recommended Posts

Wait, why do people keep saying it looks like FSX? So does P3D, actually they are pretty much the same... Early access and people expected a big free and complete sim AFTER everyone was told what to expect with release and any other. Your choice to pay or not if you had flight school.

It`s going to need some work but I suspect we new that early access feed back will hopefully help, OAK trees are grown from acorns, the cfg file will not open with notepad.

Its not bad but 3 things need attention.

1. The performance.

2. The sky textures, everything has a weird purple tint, and from high alt theres a strange brown haze.

3. Anti alias. Its terrible.

P3D has a significantly more complex rendering engine for more realistic shadows (things like trees, clouds and buildings can cast actual shadows on the terrain and on each other). It also takes advantage of hardware tessellation, something FSW doesn't seem to do. There's a significant difference in terms of visual fidelity and rendering techniques.

However if they would turn down the eye-burning brightness / over exposure, it wouldn't look too bad. I also found it looks sharper if you force 16X aniso. The default doesn't seem to be full 16X. Another issue is that the landclass is very inaccurate. It might be FS Global textures, but the landclass and vector data look like they're taken straight from FSX anno 2006.

Then there are the other issues like ATC voices and so on. Still too early to draw any conclusions, but they're going to have to work very hard to make it an attractive package. Even AFS2 is more interesting, if only because it represents a different approach to scenery rendering.

I'm still playing with settings -  added FSW.exe to P3D profile in nvidia inspector and it looks pretty good to me for default scenery. I also increased LOD Radius in FSW.cfg and changed wideview to 1.

Already noticed many improvements, i like it.

Wow, it took me like 20 minutes

Not everyone in the world has cable. I live in the second most populous city in Australia and with my internet it would take something like 15 hours. Distributors need to consider this when offering such large downloads.

Elsewhere I have seen a suggestion to edit fsw.cfg & extend LOD radius to at least

6.5 before you use it.

About 30 mins to go on D/Load. Steady 3.2 Mb per sec.

What exactly would you like them to consider? If a game  takes up whatever size it does with all its content  that's the size., Nothing to do about that . If you have a crappy Internet connection that's your problem to solve not  the game developer's or distribution platform's...
