Default P3D v4 looks ugly...

The ORBX shots look OK, but I'm not seeing anything spectacular there so far  - as I've mentioned over in the Orbx forums, the recent AF2 Innsbruck preview shots by Jarrad look far superior.

Can someone explain to me what is "Dynamic Lighting".  I look at the screenshots and they look great but I have no clue what I am looking for when it comes to the lighting.

Light sources illuminate objects, if they're compatible with this. You can have a few hundred light sources on screen at one time.

The FlyTampa link I posted shows the lights nicely illuminating the buildings - that's good.

The Orbx screenshots have one night shot, with their lights on display. They're disappointing -they look just like P3D v3, so X-plane doesn't look like it has much to worry about in the 'king of the night lights' category.

Absolutely, going from Jordan's video (sounds like J35OE had the same reaction).

I'm super-excited for V4, that's why I'm sitting up at 2am looking at everything I can find about it. There's enough in the new release to keep this as my primary sim. However, the videos showing default terrain look pretty similar to v3, and some of the screenshots I've seen also lack the 'wow' factor.

The FlyTampa ones that I linked to above are the best I've seen.

As mentioned, go look at Jarrod Marshall's AF2 screenshots on the Orbx forum - that's what 'next gen' looks like. Fly Tampa's shots look decent, but I'd like to see more.

If anyone else knows of any great shots, let us know.

Yes Mister AUSTRIAN AIRFORCE, FSW is clearly the better choice.

Pretty exciting stuff happening.  The dynamic lighting previews will be one of the most impressive features but we will have to wait for addons to incorporate this feature. Imagine finally the taxi and landing lights literally lighting up surfaces rather than relying on a baked light texture.  Ive seen the draw distance extended out so far and without blurries is refreshing. This works great on the night lighting as you see the highways extending way out in the distance.  Even the lights from road vehicles light up.   The 3d snow and rain also nice to see. Even reacts to the wind direction and speed!  Way to go LM!

And all this happening finally without worrying about OOM. So now sliders are dependent on what your system can handle. Cant wait to go into some major hubs finally.

I'm looking forward to long flights in PMDG jets into Orbx/FSDT/FlyTampa airports. Nothing worse in v3 and before than crossing the pond and getting an OOM just as you reach your destination airport.

For heaven's sake... not only first we have the haters to FWS when the thing just comes out and in *early access*...  but now we even have people complaining for a product that is not even out yet...

Why don't you do yourself a favour and refrain from commenting/complaining until a few months after release? Honestly, you'll feel better...

The new lighting system looks really amazing. What we've been crying out for - Thanks LM!

Just wondering how 'extensive' it is? Is clouds susceptible to lighting (like in X-Plane)? Would be nice, if clouds would receive ligthing from landing lights (and other light sources on the airplane) and lightning-strikes would cast light to surrounding clouds for instance...

Are there any improvements to the weather systems?

To me, it doesn't looks ugly, it looks about the same as v3. The LOD radius is much larger and we have dynamic night lighting now (limited only to apron lights unfortunately), but otherwise the atmospheric effects, daytime lighting, etc, don't seem to have changed. I was hoping for PBR, atmospheric effects, and the like, but I guess that will all come in time. It's evolutionary, not revolutionary, and I'm OK with that.

There were "haters" for FSW because it is abysmal even for an early access product. Also, there's a lot of streams, videos, and pictures of P3D v4 out for people to make reasonable judgements based on what to expect. Why don't you do yourself a favour and refrain from getting upset that people are discussing flight sim things on a flight sim discussion forum? Honestly, you'll feel better...

Glad you liked it, Bob  (enough to double post)

Anders, it seems that not all objects will receive the lighting from a source. I suspect that clouds won't be affected, but I'm only speculating at this time,

You say I double posted. maybe you are cross eyed and that is why you think it is ugly.

Ha, nice try, but it's not "discussing", it's needlessly hating. Honestly, try thinking for yourself, you'll feel better..

Yearh, you're probably right...

Would be nice, though if clouds were illuminated with lights... When sceneries are updated with the new technology, it will be amazing... just the screenshots from FlyTampa's KBOS and FSDT's Charlotte is really nice! Also FlightBeam KMSP is really nice and are taking advantage of this.

Chill out, brah. Go back and read the thread, no one is hating on P3D v4 here. The point of the post was to praise the appearance of the dynamic night lighting, as shown in the FlyTampa shots linked to in the initial post.

Also, if you're feeling bad for FSW, here's a kind review I wrote about it the other day:
