(... is that even a word??)

Once in a while, you come across that certain angle, scene lighting, backdrop, moment...

This was it for me, straight out of P3Dv4, no editing / post-processing. I will never be able to recreate this shot.

Repaint is my own work in progress.

Looks fantastic Kyle!

Don't have the CLS DC-10, but your last 2 paints may put me over on the buy side of the fence!

It's been a long while since I flew (and painted) a DC-10....waaaay back in the SGA and FFG days.

Something about that plain (or plane? hehe) red tail that appeals to me.  Love the livery on all the Boeings that wore her (the 727 especially).

Cheers! I did a small handful of paints on the SGA model, and I remember flying Dickson Chan's rendition of Northwest on the FFG model - again, both outstanding models for their time.

The exterior model is beautiful and the best rendition of a DC-10 I've seen yet. To forewarn you, there are a few texture mapping issues that really required some significant trial and error. Open up the tail bitmap and and you'll see what I mean. I had to paste 3 different instances of the actual psd and align each layer, erase, and reposition to align with the mapping. It's not bad after you do it the first time, but the method definitely had me scratching my head.

I also did not purchase it for the systems. I am in the significant minority where I consider the exterior to be equally as important as the interior/systems. But the VC/Systems certainly "get the job done."

Also using a custom FDE - no spool time delay in the CLS one (Engines immediately respond to throttle adjustments).

But like I said - unbeatable exterior model, and there are not many paints available for it (trying to do my part, at least for my hometown defunct airline!).

Count me in that small minority as well.  As painters, I think we have that preference naturally.  I've painted on some questionable models in my tenure as a painter, and its painful to see your meticulous work on a "bad canvas"

Thanks for the info about how good the exterior model is Kyle...I just may pick her up and throw FedEx, LH, etc on her in the future when I have some time to pick up the brush again.

I love the bowling shoe livery, the red tail "Orient" just as much, and its truly a shame to see those liveries gone from the skies and replaced with ones of the Evil Empire (at least they live on in flightsim).

I bet you're happy as beans with the new FB KMSP.....I mentioned in another thread that it may be the best scenery I've ever seen...I foresee a lot of NWA flights out of there in the future for me.   I've already done several FedEx and UPS flights from there...the cargo ramp is exquisitely detailed (as is the rest of the airport and surrounding area).

I especially love the 3d, lighted FedEx sign...see here: https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/512754-flightbeams-kmsp-dynamic-lighting-4k-images/

I hope to fly some ultra-long range flights out of KMSP with Boeing's newest long-range beauty very soon. :wink::wink::wink:
