VAS Reduction

Featured Replies

I have looked around the forums somewhat, what's the best current method of reducing VAS usage?  I have tweaked some of my orbix settings (vector) and checked my LOD radius setting (4.5).  Anything else?

Thanks in advance.

Sorry it’s not actually a helpful answer, but...P3D v4. Can’t believe what a difference 64 bit means.

Vector consumes 200 MB of VAS or more.  If you are using FSX your best bet is to remove Vector.  Using Vector is also dependent on where you fly.  If you are mainly flying in the US or Europe, the UTX Terrain products give you the same thing as Vector without the VAS impact. Also VAS issue is highly dependent on the aircraft you use as well.  If you are not using PMDG planes, most other planes have no VAS problem even with ORBX.  Be aware that ORBX products use photo scenery, and in FSX photoscenery is a major source of increase VAS usage.

Also, ensure  you have a maximum of 2 payware airports activated for your flight, especially disabling any photo scenery.

As others have suggested, it's worth a look in your scenery library to see what is loading up. There is no point in having your sim load up airports and terrain where you ain't gonna fly, and there are a lot of things you can turn off, which will certainly help.

Thanks Captains!

High res textures on animated parts kill VAS, so using no more HD textures on aircraft models is the best course of action.

I use and can recommend SimStarter NG as a convenient way of limiting the active scenery for any particular flight.

Hi Duane,

What type of VAS issues are you having?  How are you monitoring VAS usage?

Running a 64-bit OS is the first big step, which I assume you are doing.

No real issues, just was curious on reduction methods.

Thanks
