November 14, 20178 yr Good Day Guys, Hope all of you are doing fine and are getting into the Holiday Season. Im thinking about upgrading my CPU from 4790k Overclocked to 4.6 to an i7 7700k. The upgrade will be a little costly to me, due to I have to buy a new motherboard and new ram, as my mobo supports LG1150 and from my understanding a 7700k needs LG1151... anyways, did anyone here upgrade from a 4790k to 7700k? Is/was there any difference between the two? And most importantly... is it worth the 500+ Euros? Many Thanks, Wishing you all a good day. I7 7700K, RTX2070 XC, 32Gb Ram, Win 10 Pro 64bit, P3D v4
November 14, 20178 yr Just as a question: why the 7700K and not directly the newest CPU, the 8700K? In my opinion, there is no reason why you should buy the 7700K nowadays... Greetings, Chris AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, 2x32GB DDR5 6000MT/s RAM, MSI RTX 4090 Ventus 3X, Windows 11 Home, MSFS2024
November 14, 20178 yr Author Hello; Because of the price difference between the two I7 7700K, RTX2070 XC, 32Gb Ram, Win 10 Pro 64bit, P3D v4
November 14, 20178 yr Or you can wait until next year when Intel releases a new line up of CPU that will truly double in performance. I am using the i7-2700K still and I don't see any reason to upgrade yet. I don't use FSX any longer, where CPU may make a difference. If you can't wait, the 8700K is a better buy, not sure whether the price difference is that significant, a 100$ different for longer time use is better IMHO. November 14, 20178 yr Author Hello; Its not only the price difference in the CPU 314 Euros for the 7700k and 425 Euros for the 8700k... its also the cost of the motherboard as well 165 for Asus VII vs 220 Euros for the Asus Z370. I7 7700K, RTX2070 XC, 32Gb Ram, Win 10 Pro 64bit, P3D v4
November 14, 20178 yr Are you running P3D v4? Looks like your signature shows all 32 bit flight sim programs, so if you are not having problems running them, it doesn't seem economical to upgrade the CPU. I have a similar system to yours and the 4790K can handle P3D v4 at a stock clock just fine for me. I did upgrade to a GTX 1070 FTW, though and use Win 7. November 14, 20178 yr Well, there is not only a single mainboard existing for the 8700K using the Z370 Chipset, I guess... I do not know where you buy your stuff, but in Germany and Switzerland, you can easily get a Z370 mainboard for 160€ or even below (https://geizhals.de/?cat=mbp4_1151&xf=317_Z370~4400_ATX~493_4x+DDR4+DIMM&sort=p#gh_filterbox) and a 8700K is far away from 425€ (https://geizhals.de/?cat=cpu1151&xf=1133_Core+i7-7000~1133_Core+i7-8000~6753_K+(Unlocked)~820_1151). So, no. It is only 100€. And I am pretty sure that this will pay off sooner or later. Greetings, Chris AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, 2x32GB DDR5 6000MT/s RAM, MSI RTX 4090 Ventus 3X, Windows 11 Home, MSFS2024
November 14, 20178 yr Get the, 8770k, I promise you won't regret it!! I originally was going to go for the 7770 but my mate convinced me the same as AnkH here to go for the 8700k. I had many many sleepless nights over 7700 VS 8700 and the additional 100 odd quid. Now I have the 8700k the proformance is through the roof. I absolutely love it. I feel your pain., I racked myself over the extra 100 quid but, it's only an extra 100 quid. Well worth it. Just make sure you get the 370 chipset mobo!! I nearly made a huge mistake of buying a 270 and someone pointed it out. As well as the ram In the wrong slot. You can see how I had 2 weeks of sleepless nights!!! Not to mention the fact that I managed to buy install It and get rid of the old PC with my missus noticing

Buy them and put in into my rig preferentially when she is not around ;-) Greetings, Chris AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, 2x32GB DDR5 6000MT/s RAM, MSI RTX 4090 Ventus 3X, Windows 11 Home, MSFS2024
November 14, 20178 yr I don't understand how people think that the CPU isn't important in P3D or Xplane. Yes the GPU is way more important than it used to be but the CPU is still number one in flightsim ATP MEL,CFI,CFII,MEI. Type Ratings B-737, ERJ-190,ERJ-170

Hello AnkH; I get my stuff from amazon and mindfactory.de, Thank you very much for sharing those two sites, i will be looking at them now :) Most likely i will settle for the 8700k..... So the question is: Have any of you went from a 4790k to 8700k? Is it worth the upgrade fee? Please ignore my signature, Im now on p3d v4 and have a GTX1070 FTW edition by EVGA. Many Thanks, I7 7700K, RTX2070 XC, 32Gb Ram, Win 10 Pro 64bit, P3D v4
