Farewell FSW

Featured Replies

I knew this project was dead when they started trying to hype cold and dark starts as a major feature. Maybe a developer with some competence and a long term vision can pick up the license.

Nor bad if you want to fly in one tiny area of the world. Like a whale in a swimming pool.

LOL! What an analogy!

I had a discussion in the Forums with Chock (Alan) when this first came out, i thought that DTG would abandon it pretty much as soon as it was released...i guess i was wrong, it didn't even get to the release stage.  Ultimately i am not sorry to see it go, development was slow and scattergun, DTG had no idea who they were attempting to get onboard with the product, was it first timers, was it people like us, was it everyone.

No thanks.  I am a fan of the Aircraft but i suspect PMDG would tie it down even more than DTG license wise regarding 3rd parties.

PMDG is apparently a successful business, why on earth would they want to get involved in developing a new sim?

Flying the A10c study sim having to learn all its systems and weapons delivery to PMDG level except of course PMDG wonderful as it is, is following a sleepy magenta line..in fact all of civilian sim is mostly magenta line ..sleepy....Its a thrill fighting for your life whilst still needing advanced navigation skills . Way more skill than piloting any civilian aircraft

Think of DCS like pilot edge a niche sector flying in a small area where staring at scenery half awake is not the goal.

get the picture now?

I like them both but leaning more towards DCS these days

I think you might be addressing this to the wrong person, it wasn't me either suggesting that they should or saying that they would.  Personally given how 'jealously' they guard their IP i think that they are about the last people i would want to develop a sim.  I don't think for one moment that they would do a bad job, i think it would be excellent, i also think it would entirely kill the free side of the hobby.

Afraid not... That made me even more sleepy than usual.

Kinda funny, to read all these comments from people, expressing their view, that they "all along knew, that FSW would fail...!".

It's easy being Monday Morning Quarterback...

Well, let me quote myself for once: on May 18, 2017 someone said in a topic about the bad reviews FSW was getting: "P3D or XP11 are the future" and I replied "Or Aerofly FS 2. But well, not FSW, that's for sure." Seems I was right from the start.

Not into shoot em up, kill people, sims. Got my license  in a Cessna 152, flown many commercial sims in military and civilian apps. Today I flew from Ireland to Belgium in a 737. Can't do any of that in DCS world. Get the picture?

i think if the fsx license goes up for sale again, it would make more sense for LM to get it and be able to sell P3D for general users.  Anybody else would have to start from scratch with teh bare code like DTG tried to do, right? So they'd start out like 3 years or more behind.  IDK why anybody would want to try that now.

My PC: I7-7700K 4.9 Ghz (OC), ASUS MAXIMUS IX HERO, 32GB DDR4-3200 RAM, EVGA GTX 1080Ti, EVGA 850 G3 Gold power supply, C:=1TB WD Black D:=1TB M.2 Samsung 960 Pro, Windows 10 Pro, Prepar3D v4, AFS2, Tons of Orbx 🙂

Well, congratulations for that revelation!
I guess, there's nothing like self-glorification...

Quite right.

But to be honest, I highly doubt that Lockheed-Martin has any interest in distributing P3D for the consumer market...
