Simflyers out of business?

Featured Replies

John,Let's give them some time to make the statement or not to. It hasn't been that long. I know we live in the world of instant communication, but maybe, and who knows, but maybe if they have a problem, they'd like to solve it or resolve it before making a statement. As far as the KATL project, that must be a million years old, are you sure they said they'd do an update for that one? If it were me I doubt I would, it's to old and probably requires too much of an overhaul to probably do it. That's just a guess though. It could also be possible that for some reason they are unable to communicate at this point. From what I saw up until their forums went down, they were in fact communicating, so keep that in mind when coming to conclusions.Just some thoughts, folks. All I'm saying is that it still might be a little to early to fully conclude what's going on.

KMSP, that is right where I am, did not know there was one in the works...........if anyone gets info on where this might t;urn up, please post!! B42L8

If the older products can't be supported anymore .... why not release them as freeware? I was going to buy KLAX and KJFK ... so much for that!

I have to admit i would agree with that. Loved it when -- oh i forgot their name -- but they released their older out-of-date aircraft as freeware. **shrugs** If their income becomes too slow for a product, kill the support and let it go as freeware. It actually saves the developer some hassle in the long run -- then recreate the airport from scratch with the latest technologies and charge the latest prices for it -- would help rotate and keep business alive.

Because there's a difference between supporting (which they were doing) and upgrading and/or enhancing.Maybe they're just switching over servers, guys, who knows.

KMSP - I can not find it any longer on simflyer's development list. I believe it was mentioned in their forum at one point. My last visit was yesterday. In the mean time I am using Ron Ackerly's KMSP Airport along with his update. It is in the flightsim FS2000 sdcenery libs. I had to modify the AFCAD (there is a new AFCAD from Jim Vile that adds the recent 17/35 runway), add the HH terminal, and the isolated commuter terminal on the east side (all using RWY 12). Google earth maps has a very good resolution overhead to see what is going on if you wish to modify Ron's scenery plus using the FAA airport diagram from flightaware.com - resources. It is a load on frame rates but in the update is breaks up the bgls for detailed items if you wish to leave them out. It has moving cars on the adjacent highways and entry roads and at night their headlights are illuminated.Quite nice.KMSP in 2004 was about the thirteenth busiest airport internationally in terms of traffic movements (or maybe passenger throughput) as I recall. It should be done by someone.

The FS2000 version of KMSP kill autogen around the airport. It brings my framerates down to slide show levels... :-(

For over 6 months? I moved 5 web sites to a new provider with a LOT of issues (the new server screwed up all of my forums and directory structure, and i had to redo all 5 sites from my machine using Dreamweaver8 and FTP) and it took me less than a week. Site migration or server changeovers do not take near that long. Not trying to argue, but I think we kind of missed in the topic that nothing has been seen or heard from the company in over 6 months (January, so almost 7 months now).

I think you're missing the point a bit. Communication with their customers and product news are 2 different things. If you had checked their forums, when was their last post? You see my point?

>I think you're missing the point a bit. Communication with>their customers and product news are 2 different things.>>If you had checked their forums, when was their last post?>>You see my point?>Okay, so that post is dated 3 months ago. Still a VERY long time. Too long to rule out server migration (like I said I moved 5 web sites WITH problems in less than a week) and for a forum it takes no time at all to do attention to an issue like the one that happened to theirs. On ANY of my web sites, no mater which site it was, if that happened to my forum I would have taken the notable less-than-5-minutes time posted on the main page of my web site, "Hello, all. I regret to inform you that we are having some technical issues with the forum. It will be down until we fix the issue or place a new forum in place. Sorry for the inconvenience."Their forum may have been hacked, but their site wasn't, and even beginner web admins that do not know much about HTML can still make a news post in less than the time that it took me to type this forum reply.Product news here is of NO concern to me. It is the "communication with their customers" portion that sent me on this whole thing of trying to figure out what happened.

Because you made me curious, I had to go look......their forums are full of foul, profane and insane idiot "Guest" posts that would have been better left unread. :-grr

Although I might agree with you, there could be any number of things that went wrong. We don't know. They could have gone out of business, or maybe John or Woflgang went on vacation or they could have got hurt, who the heck knows.Maybe, they just decided to remove their forums altogether while they searched for a better solution to replace them. Maybe they thought they could have done it quickly and their server company hasn't cooperated, we don't know. Maybe they've just decided to do away with the forums altogether, which is what I would have done...lol, then post product news when I thought the time is right.Anywho, unless you can get a hold of them, we'll never know until they come out.No sense in the coulda woulda shoulda's here anymore, that's for sure.

We are alive and kicking. The forum was hacked we put it back up hacked again and then a third time. So Wolfgang decided to take it down. Raffaele who is the lead designer had some real world things that put BFI in a holding pattern until he could get back to it full time. I am happy to say that as of last week he is back to Dull time work on BFI. He is about ready to release some new updated photo of BFI :)JohnSimFlyers.net
