August 27, 200619 yr I have to admit, I'm not bothered with the loss of 2D views, I know they can be hi-res, but I prefer the 3D environments, which are getting better and better all the time. Alaister Kay

August 27, 200619 yr I prefer the VC but the 2d panel is still much needed. I tried flyingthe Baron the other night and there is no illumination on the switches panel. You have to use the 2d panel to tell what switches you're flipping. | Dave | I've been around for most of my life. August 27, 200619 yr Final night lighting in the VC was not in the demo. I think you will like the finished product.
August 27, 200619 yr This really is a stupid omission on the part of Aces...what exactly was the problem with leaving 2d sideviews in?
August 27, 200619 yr I know it is one heck of a change, but my hunch is that we will see more of this type of quality VC's in FSX. The Realair SF260 (FS9) is an example (VC only) of the quality I am sure will be standard rather than an exception.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/154794.jpg Bob Prince
August 27, 200619 yr >This really is a stupid omission on the part of Aces...what>exactly was the problem with leaving 2d sideviews in? I hear it Alex. I liked the demo from the little bit that I checked it and flew in it. But this definitely dampens my spirit in regards to moving up to FSX. One of the biggest aspects is supposed to be a visual upgrade, which I think is great. However, this aspect certainly seems like a visual downgrade to me.I for one hope to see people speaking their disapproval concerning this matter. Naturally, I would really hope that ACES would reconsider removing such a nice feature.Regards
August 27, 200619 yr >I'm sure there will be "another way" to get>these setups to work for you guys.If so it would be nice for Mike aka Taildragger to provide more than a 1-word, 2-letter answer.Maybe a better way to ask the question is, "How are multi-monitor scenarios supported in FSX?"

The Realair>SF260 (FS9) is an example (VC only) of the quality I am sure>will be standard rather than an exception.>I'm worried about the freeware guys who make really great 2D Photoreal panels WITH sideviews. We don't have Milton Shupes(who just left the building with Elvis), David Maltbys et al. that make great VC's come around everyday Bob. The 2D Panel guys will now be forced into leaving us without the great sideviews they could have included. Why?? I also think you are failing to keep in mind there are still a great deal of people that actually like their 2D Panels and prefer them over a VC for numerous reasons. Personally, I like both 2D Panels and VC's, therefore I like the way we currently have the 2D sideviews to compliment the forward panel in FS9. I myself made and a very small addon(panel.cfg file available here on avsim) which made Jean-Pierre Langer's and Arne Bartels' excellent high quality 2D Photoreal Beaver panel WITH same quality sideviews based on photos by Larry Smith(available here on avsim), compatible with John L. Woodwards freeware Beaver for FS2004, which didn't even have a 2D Panel. John L. Woodward commented that he was hoping someone would do such a thing since he did not include a 2D Panel. I will miss the ability to do the same thing in the future(the actual work was in making the 2D sideviews work with John L. Woodwards VC). Some of us still care about this feature which is being tossed out. And as I said, I hope they will voice their concern!Jimmy Richards
August 28, 200619 yr We were faced with a choice:a) keep the existing behavior:( implement a completely new and improved camera systemWe simply couldn't have both. (And since I know these comments are coming, yes, we are stupid and don't know how to program, ought to work with some 3rd party, have to do what the 'beancounters' say, are trying to turn FSX into a 'game', etc., etc.) ;)
August 28, 200619 yr Hi Jimmy,I understand your point. This reminds me of moving into a new house. It is a smaller, but with a bigger yard! Not everything will fit, but it has lots of room for expansion and new appliances and gizmos that I will learn to enjoy. It is change! :)taildragger posted this a little while ago:"We were faced with a choice:a) keep the existing behavior:( implement a completely new and improved camera systemWe simply couldn't have both. August 28, 200619 yr Mike - thank you for the answer. I was hoping there was some way toget light on those switches and it looks like there will be.BTW - my 'flashing water when it rains' problem seems to have vanishedand I have no idea why. This demo is weird like that. Several of the problemsI've had have mysteriously dissappeared. | Dave | I've been around for most of my life. August 28, 200619 yr Hi Bob,Well I hear and understand you, and at least tdragger has given some explanation for the reason to the change. Still, I hope that some voicing of disappointment can be understood and tolerated, as those old and set in our ways can be a little upset sometimes at having to change our ways. :-lol I can't say that I'm convinced yet that the new camera system is worth the trashing of 2D sideviews, but I must admit I haven't played with the demo all that much. Time will tell. For now I say, darnit! ;(Cheers :)

Time will tell. For now I>say, darnit! ;(That's only because "we" haven't seen what the new camera system will be capable of providing... As I understand it, and based on my own digging into the various panel.cfg and sim.cfg files, we will have a LOT of new possibilities that weren't available with the old, "FOUR camera system." Fr.
