On the basis that a picture is worth a thousand words:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/154903.jpgIt's my Cygnet in FS9 using the 2D cockpit and hat switch to the left. What you see is the external model.Repeating my question, will I still be able to get this view in FSX using the hat switch in the 2D panel?BTW there are other aircraft than airliners. Maybe you should get out more?

I keep telling myself there is a life outside of Flightsim! :-lolYou are absolutely right I should get out more!BTW if you d/l the FSX demo and install your a/c you will find out for yourself. :-hah

"BTW if you d/l the FSX demo and install your a/c you will find out for yourself. :-hah"In other words, you can't answer the question. The reasons I haven't downloaded the demo are that I use a dialup connection and that I doubt my aging PC would cope with it. That's why I asked the question here, hoping for a rational answer.

That would've been more useful to state! Or I could just suggest downloading the Demo version ;-)Will the wing view work.......well that's not even straightforward is it?Are the wings still going to need to be attached to the VC to be seen or can the internal mdl now just be a VC with the external mdl being visible? Actually I don't have a clue! With mgh's biplane, I'd imagine it's built with the whole thing attached to the VC and in the model folder, the internal= line will reference the same mdl as normal=, so regardless, the wings will be seen. And as you said, there's also the camera view that could show the wings too.Anyone begining to think this got complicated? :-roll Dreamfleet Project ManagerGreatest Airliners - DC-8Greatest Airliners - 727 Whisperjethttp://www.dreamfleet2000.com/gfx/images/F...BANNER_PAUL.jpg

To clarify, my Cygnet doesn't have a VC.Alsao, I use a gauge (VCSkipView.xml) that skips over the VC view when cycling through the views.

Ed, I feel for you;-) but as you will undoubtedly know, some of us hate 2d views. I came in to flightsim in FS2000, and went straight back out again because I just couldn't relate to the piece of painted card in front of me. If someone releases a freeware aircraft now without a VC I don't even download it and that includes that Tinmouse package, which I'm sure in every other respect is great but that 'cardboard cut-out' effect just kills the sense of immersiveness. 2d panels are going the way of kitsch, retro, and nostalgia. What's wrong with staying with FS9? If you can enjoy a 2d panel immersiveness is not an issue for you , you won't be needing all that extra eye candy that FSX promises to deliver.

I imagine that the skipview gauge won't work for starters. As I said, FSX now requires 2 mdl's in the model folder so I really can't think how this will work for the Cygnet.....sorry. As getting the Demo isn't an option for you, if you want to mail me the Cygnet, I'll give it a try for you this evening and let you know what happens. Also, another annoying feature I found over the weekend is that the mini panel (Cessna style) seems to appear when cycling through the forward panel views, unless a specific mini panel has been added to the panel.cfg.............imagine, cycling through the 727 forward views and getting presented with the Cessna mini panel!!! Something else to fix :-(Dreamfleet Project ManagerGreatest Airliners - DC-8Greatest Airliners - 727 Whisperjethttp://www.dreamfleet2000.com/gfx/images/F...BANNER_PAUL.jpg

Your panel is superbly crisp, and I'm jealous! I've tried again and again to get my 260 into FSX, following tips in previous posts, but with only partial success. The aircraft itself is OK, flaps, gear and sound all function, but in exterior view I have no canopy, and the pilot has turned black ... as for the panel and prop, this pic tells the sad story. If you could give me any clues to what I've missed and/or should do to, my 260 and me would much appreciate it.

Thanks. I'll have to zip it up first.

>As I aready answered in the panel forum Window00 and window01>>is not satisfactory. :)Funny then, as ESDG has been using that technique for quite awhile now, as have other payware and freeware developers. No one has complained about it, to my knowledge. YMMV, of course.I've replied in more detail in the other thread, complete with an example...

>Repeating my question, will I still be able to get this view>in FSX using the hat switch in the 2D panel? The answer to your question is yes, you should be able to see the same thing, since all 'hat left' and 'hat right' views use the VC (interior) model, just as FS2k2 and FS9 do.EDIT: since your model has no 'interior' (VC), see my reply to Paul G. regarding a workaround... ;)

>I imagine that the skipview gauge won't work for starters.>>As I said, FSX now requires 2 mdl's in the model folder so I>really can't think how this will work for the>Cygnet.....sorry.One possibility for 'exterior only' models would be to create a duplicate of the exterior model in the model.cfg file, then adjust the camera for "wing views" such that the camera's location is just barely outside the fuselage.Granted, there wouldn't be a "window frame," but that's certainly better than nothing! ;)Trust me, within a few short weeks of FSX RTM, there will be plethora workarounds and fixes to - if not completely solve - at least mitigate anyone's trauma... :-outta

Having tested this for Gerry, the simple answer was "no", there were no wings visible, even after adding the interior= line to his model.cfg.However, after looking further at this I found that the panel folder contained some xml code that stopped the VC appearing and once this had been removed, yes, wings like those in the pic above are visible with no problem.Oh, and nice Cygnet Gerry :-)
