I have just watched a YouTube video of a real-world Boeing 777 landing at Paris in heavy rain and rain droplets do appear on the windscreen on the approach which are swept across the windscreen by the airflow and do occasionally leave traces of their presence across the windscreen itself. See for yourself and judge accordingly:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1jFb8y8JmM

Nature obviously determines that the raindrops are visible in flight on the windscreen and do leave streaks in their wake. Moreover, this video does also show an element of opaqueness on the windscreen due to the heavy rain when decelerating on the runway with the wiper valiantly clearing the view as quickly as possible. With the aircraft taxying the raindrops are definitely visible and do leave traces in their wake when they drop off the windscreen.

Hi Paul, so do you confirm that on the PMDG 747 it works this way, that is as speed increases you don't see any droplets/streaks/water on the windscreen? I just wanted to make sure that it's not an issue with my system. Thanks.

Impressive. Great job PMDG.

I'm interpreting this release as between Christmas and New Year.

Only fair to thank Robert, Kyle, Vin et al.

Hi James,

I have just done a runup on the runway to about 160 knots under very high precipitation and moderate winds, and can report that as the speed increases any droplets/steaks/water on the windscreen fade away. This appears to be in contradiction to some extent with the video link I gave which does show water droplets and streaks on the windscreen on the approach (at about 150 knots) although not admittedly completely blanketing the view.

Thanks. I see that the raindrops disappear at about 90-100 knots, it apparently does not look so realistic… During the approach at 140 knots, this way one does not need the wiper at all, while in real life you need it...

Hi guys,

I saw this already a while ago with the -8 version and i regret this fact. I have other addons that show the raindrops blown away with increasing speed and they remain visible. The PMDG rainmaker is less spectaculair and for me a disappointing one compared to other a/c in my hanger.

I hope they can (are willing)  do something about this.

Ben van Boom

Based on that 747 version is 3.00.9019. If you open the Operations Center and select the 747 and then version what is the version number shown as installed and available in the server?

Regards,

Ben van Boom

+1 on that one Ben. It almost negates the usefulness and application of such a development if it does not to some extent match reality where reality does expect such behaviour and indeed demands the use of the wipers. One might expect the use of the wipers on the approach, particularly on short final and I am similarly disappointed that we may not currently be enjoying such realism. A polite request to PMDG to take note of our constructive comments and hope that they can match the realism that other addons offer in this respect in the near future.

Yes, quite disappointing that, when in flight, nothing changes compared to when there was no windshield raindrops effect...

Nobody can look at pictures that are located on your system.. you need to upload them somewhere, for example imgur and then use that link here.

Hi guys,

After the update the 20 second initialization is not running and I find myself in an aircraft with engine sounds, no landing gear, nothing clickable... Running P3D 4.3 at the moment. Same issue in both the 744 and the 748.

Any ideas as to how to get it to initialize again?

Thanks!
