PacSim Taiwan Taoyuan RCTP airport

Featured Replies

Looking for opinions on PacSim's RCTP Taiwan Taoyuan airport scenery.

I like Cargo ops, and RCTP ranks #9 on the list of the world busiest cargo hubs.

Thanks for any info.

Scott

I've got it for my Cargo flying in Asia.  PacSim does good work and RCTP is no exception.

I'd say the airport was done well, the surroundings not so much. You will find swaths of water that were not masked, and you'll find that different parts of the photoreal area have different coloration. In all honesty, for the price I paid I expected a higher standard and slightly regret my purchase. If ever they do another sale, I'd recommend waiting for that rather than buying it at full price. It's sad, because I very much like their KSLC and KRNO, but RCTP feels like a step down. That said, if all you care about is the airport proper, then it's a fine product, though perhaps overpriced.

I'd have to give this one a "C+"...it's the best (only?) option for this airport, but the non-pavement photoreal ground textures are pretty coarse and fuzzy, the cargo building signage and textures are as well, the texture overlays on parts of the ramp do not receive shadows, so acft shadows are mottled or not visible on the ground in many places.  The ADE has the parking spots around the terminal set too far forward, so the scenery's IK jetways are embedded in the AI planes all around the field.  There's a user GSX2 mod available in the FSDreamTeam GSX forum that replaces all the PacSim IK jetways with better-placed SODE versions, which helps a lot.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the detailed feedback on this one...

I wanted this mainly for my cargo ops, being the #9 ranked cargo hub in the world and all, and like Bob said, there's really nothing else available for RCTP, either freeware or payware, so it's either the PacSim version or the default, which frankly, is pretty awful...

Still, I might like to fly a passenger jet in to the airport on occasion, and having jetways embedded in the AI aircraft all over the airport doesn't do much for the immersion factor..☹️

I'm going to think on this one for a bit before deciding, but thanks again for the info...

Get it whenever it goes on sale.

Yes, it has all the problems as mentioned by others, it's definitely not modern (no dynamic lighting or reflections) and you should replace the jetways with GSX Level 2 if you have it.

However, combine it with the freeware Taipei city scenery as described in this Avsim post  and you have a good-performing and detailed airport scenery with a cityscape in Asia - a rare combination.

There are other, newer, sceneries at a similar or more expensive price-point that I've been more disappointed about than this.

I love it- It's a crucial stop on my Asian route network, and it's a great scenery, but it takes some gettin' used to.  The city isn't the best, but it's a fun airport to fly in, despite some of its dated limitations.  It's also nice looking, with a lot of attention to the buildings and such. I fly a lot of heavy routes around the region, and it's a great place to add to have some short to medium haul routes in the Pacific.

It is definitely worth the money.  One of my favourite P3D destinations in the APac area.  Pacsim does some great work - I just wish they were more prolific

Looking forward to Incheon

IMHO PacSim’s release of RCTP is spot on in terms of their rendition of the airport.  As was said already, the surrounding areas though were not touched much, but if you have FTX Global and a bit of freeware for Taipei, you’ll be more than happy.  I’m looking forward to their Incheon release.

Thanks for the screen shots F737NG, those look pretty nice...

Considering that I was looking at this primarily for cargo ops, the apparent deficiencies of the PAX terminals (ie. jetways, lighting, etc.) probably wouldn't be that big of a deal to me anyway, so i'll probably end up getting it soon..

Me too.

A+. The airport is done well and I like the inclusion of photo scenery with it. Gives good immersion.

Picked it up today and overall I like it a lot.

It lacks animated jetways, but since I got it mainly for it's cargo hub status I can live with that, and if I ever get around to buying GSX I can add SODE jetways if I understand correctly.
