June 10, 200619 yr Hi,I wanted to know whether FSX will offer the ability to have a true tiller control for us cockpit builders.Indeed, right now it is always coupled with the rudder, which is quite annoying for heavies. I don't object to it being coupled, I just would like to have the opportunity to decouple it...Any hindsight?Cheers,CJ
June 11, 200619 yr There are some 3rd party developers who seem to be able to suppress rudder movement on the ground - I wonder how they did that? Jeff Bea I am an avid globetrotter with my trusty Lufthansa B777F, Polar Air Cargo B744F, and Atlas Air B748F.
June 11, 200619 yr Author Yeah but you need it on ground too.It is just that you don't necessary want it to be in the same position as the wheels, especially during crosswinds.Cheers
June 11, 200619 yr I think i heard that this is possible with FSUIPC in a thread in the PMDG forum Alaister Kay
June 11, 200619 yr Sounds like FSUIPC is an acceptable interface in ACES' eyes then. Interesting. I would hope that this new SDK could open things up more such that FSUIPC wouldn't be as required. With respect to the posting at hand - if FSUIPC is making this happen as a work-around, then why not afford this level of control at the SDK level? June 12, 200619 yr heh. Hmm methinks maybe FSUIPC will still be very much around in FSX...Rhett Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB

I shouldn't need a commercial addon to make this basic function work :)------------------------------------------------------------------"The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender."Proverbs 22 Quote from MS Flight Team Lead: "We’ve made some guesses"
June 13, 200619 yr Agreed - Also, the FSUIPC tiller isn't 100% realistic. :( "The tiller" is just the rudder axis. That is to say you can't move the rudder/nosewheel independantly. Would love to see that fixed in FSX. :-)-Paul
June 13, 200619 yr Plus I believe IRL at least on some heavies the rudder pedals will move the nose wheel a few degrees either way to maintain centerline.scott s..
June 14, 200619 yr I think nose wheel tiller separated from rudder can be solved even today in FS2004, but only if working with model and panel variables in common. It would be necessary to animate the rudder part via xmlparts using a local var controlled by code instead of the "rudder position" used by default. The nose wheel would be animated with another local var as well, then independent and/or combined control is possible. Moving the tiller must command a RUDDER_SET event but will update only the var tied to nose wheel so in spot view the rudder, even being actuated, won't move. I've programmed a tiller for my 757 project that operates much like the real one. Only the rudder "jitters" a bit in spot view because I am using a third party aircraft model. Hope to find some day a modeler with whom I could work and test this kind of animation.Tom
June 14, 200619 yr Author Hi thanks to all.Me think that we should not have to rely on a payware addon to have such a basic function implemented though.Respectfully,CJ
June 14, 200619 yr Moderator >Hi thanks to all.>>Me think that we should not have to rely on a payware addon to>have such a basic function implemented though.Basic? It's unique to only a very few aircraft. That hardly puts it into the "basic" category... ;) Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
June 14, 200619 yr The interim version of FSUIPC allows sim builders to have steering tillers by adding another rudder function that only has authority under 60knts I have added this to my cockpit and it work really well. I would hope that Pete when he creates a version of FSUIPC for FSX will continue to model this.
