Your First Next Gen Flight

For nostalgia value I'd depart from a Chicago airport in the C172 (ideally Meigs, but I doubt that'll be included by default), and do a sightseeing flight around Chicago.

I'll be thinking of when I did the same after getting a copy of FS95 as a birthday present and just how far simulator graphics have come on.

Beware, nostalgia is not what it used to be 😊

Agree with @domkle, not convinced that a purchase is in my future at this point. But, to play along......

Start at KNLC, Naval Air Station Lemoore then NE to KNFL, Naval Air Station Fallon to get fat with gas. Then, south to KNID, Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake. After checking out the ranges, then SE to KNJK, Naval Air Facility El Centro (winter home of the Blue Angels).

All of these extremely important facilities (as well as many others) have been largely ignored in every version of every flight simulator I've seen.

I'm with @Greazer, let's see the warts first.

They shouldn't take our purchase for granted. That would make them less eager to do their very best  😄  (just kiddin') !

I'll take off from LPMT 08 for a short hop to LPCS 35.

Will pick a date with visible Moon phase, and a time of day close to dusk or dawn and check if everything is correctly depicted...

Then I'll start trying the props, the jets, and who knows a glider and heli ?

After a week, at most, it'll be uninstalled, of course! What else?

Flying gliders since 1980

Flightsimming since 1992

AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)

Yes, let's see what they do with PT6 simulation.

I may do a comparison FS2020 stock vs X Plane with Addons (Hotstart TBM 900, Ortho4xp tiles, Drzewiecki Washington / New York).

Then I may do a flight to KCRW to check the slopes. Followed by some regional airports around here, Augusta to Briscoe Field maybe.

It's fun to "people watch" in the forums...you get to see the way people think.

It's not that stress testing is invalid or anything, but it's kind of like answering the question, "where will you take your beautiful new girlfriend on your first date?" with:

"I'm going to make fun of her dress and insult her mother to see how she reacts."

Maybe, as an alternative to diving right into the worst case scenario, you might get to know her a bit first? Maybe she has some endearing qualities that make up for other perceived shortcomings? Maybe you learn to love her for who she is instead of focusing only on her flaws?

Everybody's entitled to their opinion, but isn't kind of a miserable existence to always assume the worst and look for ways to be unhappy with something?

Even if MSFS isn't what I hope it will be, its mere presence has gotten me interested in swimming again after a 7 year hiatus.

My first flight will be some pattern work at Dayton (ICAO: KDAY) in probably the TBM to see what a mid-sized generic airport looks like and see whether it captures the essence of the midwest.

Its even more fun to respond to people watchers who enjoy insulting others.

Divorce is way out of control because stress tests of relationships (not deliberate insults like you wildly suggest) are done too late <<<------ much more miserable existence.

Same with flight sims, we hear complaint after complaint of poor performance, blurriness, etc. because that initial stress test (understanding of capabilities) is never done. Talking about misery.

I do the same king of thing as Greazer does because its a "long term" smart thing to do, not a miserable existence.

If we don’t get extensive info about it earlier (I think we will), first flight will be over my city airport, to see how good it is recreated.

If we already know, probably will get the easier aircraft and take a flight over my home location.

...

It was just an analogy, champ.

I just can't help but notice the same handful of people who project negativity, complain, and assume the worst case scenario about their chosen hobby are also generally the same people who want to immediately expose whatever weaknesses they can find in a "stress test".

Like I said, that's fine I guess. It's just an observation.

On my first flight in the TBM I'll be checking out the free-turbine turboprop modeling to see what improvements there are over the disappointing version found in FSX.

Ha, @jcomm I know this is really important to you. I’m pulling for you, my friend. I’m sincerely hoping that this sim delivers 👍

My first flight will probably be out of my home airport KJQF low and slow to see how well my home area is modeled.

I agree the turbo-prop modeling will have to be checked and it will be good of you to do so. Thank you.

I intend to dive deep into every aspect but stability (multi <4 to 6> leg to major airports and 16+ hour polar/flex track/NAT/PACOTS) flights first. If it can handle this kind of flying with max settings then it can handle anything.🤓 A new sim needs to be able to handle anything so that everybody is happy😊

I hope to be on an alpha/beta team so I can get right to it. I have the time to test 18 hours a day, and the desire to help make MSFS the best it can possibly be.👨‍✈️

The handful of people who seem to project negativity, are actually good for the community in that they require quality products and a good value. Can you imagine if we just settled for less? Imagine paying $100 for an FSX default 737 type quality if we all just did not care. But as it is, we have some very high quality products for a fair price. Some companies stretch themselves and the consequences can be harsh. Others provide excellence for a very great price and they reap the benefits. This is what I have been observing for decades.👨‍🎓

I understand there is a balance, but any new sim or product should go through a process of some kind of scrutiny. Reviews can be biased, but honest public reports and reviews play a huge role in assuring quality and value...extremely important.👍

________________________________

Just so everybody knows, I am not talking about unreasonable requirements/demands for impossible features.

I think there's a difference between an organized, methodical test plan conducted by someone in good faith during an organized alpha/beta test, and someone who's just looking to confirm bias.

It seems obvious you're the former not the latter, and I'm with you. While I don't have 18 hours a day, I do have the same desire to test extensively and provide constructive feedback to the developers.

To keep things relevant, on my first TBM flight I'll be looking at governing, negative torque sensing, feathering/autofeathering, beta operation, and start behavior.

1 -  short circuit LFLY (my hometown) with a small, simple GA

2 - 20, 30 min flight above Lyon to see how it is depicted compared to XP Orthos and OSM, changing time of day during the flight, with the TBM to get my hands on it

3 - a few legs with the 737 (if present) or the A320 in Europe

4 - I will start my World Tour which I already carefully prepared. It will take me from Lyon into all the continents, one by one, flying above the most spectacular landscapes our planet has to offer, a conjugaison of middle hauls and short hauls, all of this in real-weather of course. I think I already have over 200 legs prepared for this. So I think within a year, I will probably know both the sim and the Earth pretty well 😉

LMFAO, its funny to see people complaining about someone else's post and end up doing exactly the same thing.

"to see what a mid-sized generic airport looks like and see whether it captures the essence of the midwest."

...and I'll quote your own words: "but isn't kind of a miserable existence to always assume the worst"

KMTH to KFXE, early morning setting. Looking at the AC line up so far, it will most likely be in the Icon A5.
