Your First Next Gen Flight

Featured Replies

When this beauty releases what's your first flight going to be? What plane? Day or Night?

I'm going PAMR-CBBC-PAJN at 6:00am in a small GA, preferably C172. Those views...

Le Lamatin to George F.L. Charles at 5:30am in a Baron 58 if they have it

5800X3D. 32 GB RAM. 1TB SATA SSD. 3TB HDD. RX  9070XT.

I'll fly close to home on the tuscan coastline and countryside but likely going to meet the "standard" autogen even tho Google covered most cities and towns in 3d. Still, it should be nice before sunset with some clouds getting colored by sunrays 🙂

KDCA to KLGA (max objects / settings). Max stress test.

It's fun to "people watch" in the forums...you get to see the way people think.

It's not that stress testing is invalid or anything, but it's kind of like answering the question, "where will you take your beautiful new girlfriend on your first date?" with:

"I'm going to make fun of her dress and insult her mother to see how she reacts."

Maybe, as an alternative to diving right into the worst case scenario, you might get to know her a bit first? Maybe she has some endearing qualities that make up for other perceived shortcomings? Maybe you learn to love her for who she is instead of focusing only on her flaws?

Everybody's entitled to their opinion, but isn't kind of a miserable existence to always assume the worst and look for ways to be unhappy with something?

Even if MSFS isn't what I hope it will be, its mere presence has gotten me interested in swimming again after a 7 year hiatus.

My first flight will be some pattern work at Dayton (ICAO: KDAY) in probably the TBM to see what a mid-sized generic airport looks like and see whether it captures the essence of the midwest.

I even don't kown whether I'll buy the new sim and you ask what would be my first flight  😄 ?

But let's play the game.

For several FS iterations, my first fllight was from South Tahoe to Reno. A lovely green then red flight with snow capped peaks, a lake, forest and a desert.

This time around, I may fly from Cannes-Mandelieu (LFMD) to a small airfied in the hills La Môle LFTZ  with a Cub (or the closest a/c)  to get a feel of the flight modeling, the mesh, the coastline and small and medium airports.

Toulouse to Zurich, flying my new bus home

If the free flight starts at a specific airport I will takeoff from that airport and fly around for a bit, because that airport probably will have every bit of detail and beautiful surroundings (3D city and stuff). It will probably show off best what this new sim will be able to do. I will do this preferably in the C172 so I can fly low and slow and it offers the best view at the scenery. I will change the weather and time during this flight to see what we've got.

But after that I already have 2 flights in mind for my first real flights. The first will be a VFR flight from my home airport Rotterdam in the Netherlands (EHRD). The time will be at 1500 in the summer, the weather will be few clouds and high visibility. I want to fly an aircraft with classic instruments for this one, so it will probably be the Robin DR400. I will takeoff from runway 06 after start up and taxi from the flight club, then bank left and fly over Zoetermeer (my home town) to see what details we have over this area. Next I will head towards Noordwijk and turn left at the coast and fly all the way towards Hoek van Holland past The Hague (my birth town). From there on I will follow De Nieuwe Waterweg all the way to the port of Rotterdam and then make it back to the airport.

I've flown this route a lot of times in both FSX, Prepar3D and X-Plane. Things started to look real over here by using ortho scenery for X-Plane and matching buildings from OSM, so I'm really interested to see how MSFS matches up in this area.

My second flight will surely be from Gran Canaria Las Palmas airport (GCLP), this is my favorite holiday hotspot and I know the area quite well. In addition to The Netherlands which is flat like a pancake this scenery will have actual mountains. I will fly in summer about an hour before the sun starts setting using real weather. This time I will use a twin engine aircraft and I will do a complete tour around the island. Again, this island along with ortho scenery in X-Plane looked quite real, so it will be another test to see how it compares.

I wish MSFS team members are watching this thread so that they are going to make the most realistic scenery for your intended flight.

This thread already exists somewhere I think.

The original topic regarding the first flight ended up getting bogged down with so many off topic posts it died a slow and painful death. It's still here on page 2 but lost its' usefulness.

So lets let this one run and see where it goes.

Thank you.

For nostalgia value I'd depart from a Chicago airport in the C172 (ideally Meigs, but I doubt that'll be included by default), and do a sightseeing flight around Chicago.

I'll be thinking of when I did the same after getting a copy of FS95 as a birthday present and just how far simulator graphics have come on.

That's a good one too! Back to where it all started, I must have roamed the skies of Chicago a gazillion times in all the FS editions starting with Sub Logic FS 2. I've been to Chicago in real life a few years ago for a Microsoft Ignite event. It was great to finally see everything I've always seen from just flight simulators in reality like the pier, the Sears (Willis) tower, the John Hancock Center and the old site and marina of what was once Meigs field.
