August 26, 20196 yr The devs tend to do sceneries where their customers live with the idea that we only fly where we live. Not true, at least for me. There are huge swaths of the globe utterly neglected. I still fly in these forgotten lands with Global+Vector+Pilot's mesh and some old LC maps but the quality could be better. The exception is Japan where there is also an excellent freeware LC Map. A lot of airports are misplaced with roads and rivers crossing the perimeter. One of the things I look forward to in the new sim is at last a balanced cover of the planet, with a special eye to the Philippines and Indonesian archipelagoes (EDIT with Malaysian Borneo and PNG !). Have you your own forgotten lands you look forward too ? August 26, 20196 yr Not really forgotten but if MSFS would cover Norway in all its glory I wouldn't mind if the rest of the world was flat and barren. I've been flying for years in Norway only (using FTX Norway and AoN) and I'd love to fly there for a few more years with even more detail. I doubt if that will happen though...
August 26, 20196 yr Not a whole land, but for the last 19 years I've been making scenery for my home city, the capital of Canada (which you would think would be a bigger deal for them.) By default it's completely empty.

Ha! but you miss the sweet tradewinds of Pago Pago, landing in a drenching monsoon in Bombay, taking off in the rarefied air in the Andes, the treacherous dirt strips of PNG, island hopping in the Caribbean or Philippines, the airports in the shadow of Java volcanoes ! August 26, 20196 yr The Arabian peninsula, Iran and North Africa. It's easy to dismiss these areas as just sandpits but the natural formations can be absolutely breathtaking. Plus the rich arable lands north of the Atlas mountains and across the levant are just gorgeous. Not to mention the variety of human activity, from modern megatropolis' like Dubai (which, to be fair, makes a spectacular appearance in the trailer), Riyadh and Amman to ancient capitals like Cairo, Damascus, Tehran and Algiers. Exactly, especially when you consider the fact that most of the islands are tiny compared to some of the other projects they've done. Its where I live and I've dreamed of the region getting some high quality scenery. Taxi2Gate did some good work on some of our airports but I know we can get stuff that's much better. 5800X3D. 32 GB RAM. 1TB SATA SSD. 3TB HDD. RX 9070XT.
August 26, 20196 yr I have some preferred flying areas, mainly the Pacific Northwest and up through Alaska, New Zealand, and the Andes mountain chain. I like mountain flying. I'm less concerned about detailed cities, but it's nice to see the world populated where it should be, away from the cities. Since I do most of my flying in the FSEconomy game, that sometimes takes me into interesting areas that aren't covered well with add-on scenery. Especially ferry flights, where I "buy" a plane in the game and have to move it to my preferred flying area. I once "bought" a Turbo Goose located in South Florida and ferried it to the PNW. I took a scenic route to Cuba, then Central America, up through Mexico and the USA west coast to WA state. That was a fun series of flights. Right now, I have a PC-12 in FSE where I'm currently working my way from Japan down to Taiwan and the Philippines as part of a round-the-word trip. Haven't decided yet if I'll take a side trip to New Zealand for a while. This is in areas that aren't well represented scenery-wise, but at least it's "plausible," especially with HD mesh for the mountains. It will be interesting to see if MSFS can do a better job in areas like this. X-Plane and Microsoft Flight Simulator on Windows 10 i7 6700 4.0 GHz, 32 GB RAM, GTX 1660 ti, 1920x1200 monitor
August 26, 20196 yr My preferred areas are the Alps and northern Mediterranean. I also enjoy the Pacific Northwest and the UK. If the new sim holds what it promises as far as graphics are concerned, I will definitely check out some new areas. I’d love to explore northern Scotland, the Norwegian coastline, Kamchatka, the Aleutian Islands and the Andes. i9-11900K, RTX 4090, 32 GB ram, Honeycomb Alpha and Bravo, TCA Airbus sidestick and quadrant, Reverb G2
