But it's clear the cloud infrastructure costs will be higher this time, how that transpires for the end user we'll have to wait and see. You know what, for your sake, I hope they charge us a sub because you seem to really want it LOL 5800X3D. 32 GB RAM. 1TB SATA SSD. 3TB HDD. RX 9070XT.
September 17, 20196 yr Not entirely sure why people are psychologically so hung up on subscriptions. Whether you pay £200 for P3D upfront, or £60 upfront and £10 a month for enhanced streaming (or whatever) for FS2020.... I mean really? So what? If we actually get what we are seeing, then fine by me for subs. (even though they have said, it's not a subscription based sim)

If we actually get what we are seeing, then fine by me for subs. (even though they have said, it's not a subscription based sim) It's not just the cost, there are other considerations that come with it. The main one, is what happens if MS decides it's no longer interested in flight sims, like they've done before? They shut down the servers and your entire investment in the sim, all those monthly fees and all the add-on aircraft you bought, all of that disappears overnight. Even if they're only streaming scenery and it's still flyable with basic landclass, you're now flying something that doesn't look good. Which is the reason you bought into the sim in the first place. If Laminar disappeared today, I'd still have a sim I could fly, a hangar full of aircraft I've paid for that would still be flyable, and scenery that looks good enough to continue with the hobby. Same thing with P3D or FSX. The respective companies would have to remove any periodic "phone home" authentication, but I think that could be assumed. It would be completely different if one of the primary attractions of the sim is streamed content, and the servers go away. P.S. I'm making a Devil's Advocate argument here. Personally, I'm not so heavily invested in flight sims either financially or emotionally that I couldn't find something else to fly and enjoy. If a new sim uses streamed content, or even a subscription, and if it was good enough to justify it (this is critical), I'd go for it. September 17, 20196 yr We don't even know how their streaming system works so let's hold on for a sec.

So what. It does not mean that it will happen again. There is just no conceivable reason why they would. It's all scaremongering drama. Edited September 17, 20196 yr by ErichB
September 17, 20196 yr Quote It's all scaremongering drama. That's a little over the top, innit? All we're doing here is speculating on possibilities while we wait for more information from MS. Yeah, bu'...you've dedicated a paragraph to the aftermath of a potential shutdown, innit. That's like Simmy World Doomsday. The Sequel Of course it could happen - and then we'll all cry floods of tears. But, ya know. There are worse things.. But the balance of probability, I would say, is strongly in our favour.

It gets tedious when people keep speculating on something that has already been dealt with. This is not a sub based sim. End of Story. 5800X3D. 32 GB RAM. 1TB SATA SSD. 3TB HDD. RX 9070XT.
September 18, 20196 yr Other than the obvious amazing things we see with this next gen FS, I noticed it seems that the aerodrome beacon has a fade in effect instead of just on/off! VERY NICE! Although it may be wishful thinking that I see this and it was also at the end of stabilizing the stall/spin as well.
