v4.5 what do I need to know?

Featured Replies

I fly more in DCS now and am simplifying my P3d install and I'm about to do a clean reinstall of Windows 10 and am opting to install v4.5, is there anything I need to know? I seem to remember when it was released, there were some who complained about poor performance. I am assuming this has been addressed with the since released update(?) I'm just trying to get a feel from those who have gone from v4.4 as I would be doing.

I've not long ago done the same thing. I finally got thoroughly cheesed of with waiting an age for P3D to fire up I uninstalled the whole shooting match! Right down to a registry clean out.

DCS does that to a man.

I've now reinstalled P3Dv4.5 plus a selection of aircraft I actually use and Orbx scenery I actually use.

It runs great, right out of the box. It has long been my thought that all the 'extras' that are piled on top of flight sim (of any kind) plus all the fiddling where you shouldn't fiddle will bring the game to crisis point.

There is very little I have changed in the settings, I've more or less let P3D sort itself out.

Hi Ron, it sounds like you're in exactly the same boat as me! I too want to make my install simpler. I have about 150 airports and sceneries, goodness knows how many addons. I've got tired of, like you say, waiting all evening for the sim to fire up, then when it does, it never runs as well as I know it should do. DCS has very much taken over my simming time and I find learning the weapons systems, VTOLs and refuelling on the Harrier an incredible challenge, and very rewarding, something that P3D simply comes nowhere close. I still pop back into P3d but as I say, would like to start afresh and install just a few of the addons that I use. Have you found V4.5 to run well?

With the Rift S P3Dv4.5 is really good. The nice thing is I/we have two sides to flying now. I was down to one, DCS. As for how well does it run, I am NOT an FPS watcher, never have been. I look out of the window and is it smooth? Yes it is.

Just looking at your PC specs apart from the 1080ti (I have a Stryx 1070) we're about the same. plus I run in VR exclusively. You will have NO problem. Dont try to see the colour of curtains or if one of the people flow guys has hairy nostrils.

LM is about to release the next version anyway. Might as well wait if you’re going through the trouble.

Also the fact that alpha MSFS is about to begin....but wait, where is the info about a next version of P3D? Are you assuming this based on the past schedules or do you know for sure?

Agree with that one!

With every DCS upgrade things continue working. With every P3d upgrade things stop working properly and themselves need an upgrade! GTN, Active Sky, Orbx.....?

So much so, I have P3d 4.3 and will stick with that until MSFS gets going and/or I win the lottery and upgrade my PC. (5 year old PC runs DCS butter smooth, P3d still stutters and forget flying over London!)

DCS has a smooth rendition of flight. Aircraft with some nicely advanced systems and weapons. If you want a completely accurate simulation the A10c is about the best (try not flying it for a while and go back into the cockpit!) and will soon get a graphics upgrade.

So yea, DCS certainly delivers!😁

Cheers.

Let's be fair. *As far as I'm concerned* there is nothing that doesn't work, or needed to be updated in the move from v4.4 to v4.5

Fair enough. However I'll bet if I moved from 4.3 to 4.5 I'd have a few issues. For example, GTN updater doesn't update to 4.5, so that's my Connie and A2A Comanche back to VOR/NDB navigation.

No, I'll stick to 4.3 for the hundreds of pounds worth of add one products I own and suffer the loss of future eye candy. The way I see it is, if it ain't broke don't fix it!

Cheers.

Hi David,

To each his own for sure - however - just FYI - while I use the RXP version of the GTN which does support 4.5 - I do own the F1 version as well - I just checked their support forum - it does support 4.5 according to the stickies - just so you have all the info at your disposal... I know you were a fan of the FSW Lear 35 - the massive upgrade just released makes it look absolutely stunning in 4.5 with full PBR textures - it's really brought this aircraft to the pinnacle of the FS BizJet scene...

Best of luck...

Regards,
Scott

Hello Scott.

I used the F1 GTN "upgrade" tool from the desktop and it looked like it didn't go to 4.5. Probably the upgrade tool needs upgrading? I know I had problems the last time I did a P3d upgrade? As well as needing to reinstall the GTN, other programmes developed migraines! The main aircraft I don't want to loose is the Superbug.

Aha! So the Lear has gone super dooper PBR graphics eh? That's whetted my appetite some more!😃

I just moved house, so my brain isn't set for take off power yet.

Thanks for the heads up.

Regards

David
