October 6, 20196 yr Has anyone taken a real ground school course just for flight simming? im tempted to but I’d rather not spend the money. Any good books or online resources ? Edited October 6, 20196 yr by briansommers Ciao!
October 6, 20196 yr Personally I wouldn't spend the money. But if you just wanted to do some reading and gain a greater understanding up to a PPL level, I'd highly recommend Bob Taits books; https://www.bobtait.com.au/ppl-products-page I used his books to get me through my PPL over 10 year ago. There is some material in then (from memory) that is specific to Australia but the way they are written makes it super easy to understand all things aviation. October 6, 20196 yr You may also want to look at the handbooks you can download (for free) from the FAA. They may not be as entertaining as some of the courses you can purchase (i.e. Sportys, King Schools, etc.), but they are a wealth of knowledge and a good reference. https://www.faa.gov/regulations_policies/handbooks_manuals/aviation/ The two books I read through when getting my PPL were the "Pilot's Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge" and the "Airplane Flying Handbook"
October 6, 20196 yr There is also a great source of information at this link: http://www.code7700.com/index.htm Mike Mike Lab WIN10 / I7-6700K HT ON / GTX980 / 16 GB RAM / 3 x SAMSUNG EVO 1TB SSD / 1 X WD BLACK 2TB HDD / 32" 60hz Monitor @ 2560x1440 / P3Dv4.4 No AM, Locked to 59 FPS, VSync ON, Triple buffering enabled Process Lasso used to unload all other applications than P3D running on core 0

Most of it, including the illustrations looked like it came right out of those FAA resources. Chris

October 11, 20196 yr Love the links on this thread. Thank you for sharing How I Evaluate Third Party Sim Addon Developers Refined P3Dv5.0 HF2 Settings Part1 (has MaddogX) and older thread Part 2 (has PMDG 747)
October 12, 20196 yr https://fly8ma.com They also offer some of their online ground schools for free.... I am in Canada and did my PPL and IFR ground schools online with Pilottraining.ca ---- This was "really really" long 🙂 over 180 hours of video sessions and then Tests and course material. I hate to say it but the dovetail flight school was a "mini" run through the ratings but was pretty decent for those that wanted to get a little extra help with the sim flying... Les O'Reilly
